OnaPromise your pup is so cute! Looks a lot like my Lurcherboy when he was a pup, only a darker brindle. We were told he was probably going to be smooth or possibly a bit broken coated and he was for the first few months, then he turned into a proper scruffy lad!

First picture is of him at 17 weeks, second at around a year old and the last one is from last Summer.

I have a favourite picture of my old Boxer x GSD lad that would be perfect for her style and I'm dropping hints with dh. Maybe not this year, but hopefully I will have worn him down by next year.

Best thing is, he has a gorgeous personality to match his good looks. I have honestly never met such a sweet natured dog. I do love my scruffy lad.

I fell in love with his enormous ears when he was a pup, but as you can see, they didn't grow with him. You could really see the Saluki in him as a pup, but it was the Deerhound genes that won in the end!

Another scruffy owner here - although mostly her head is smooth with a few extra long whiskers (like the little bunch on the bridge of the nose), short hair on ears and then the scruff starts. But she's got smooth legs (so her escapade through the mud yesterday evening came off easily in the stream without any assistance)

He looks utterly scrunchable Gooner. Beddie type faces are so cute, I always find them irresistible.

Lurcherboy has a beard, funky eyebrows, fab scruffy neck-ruff and wolfy shoulders, but a lovely thick, smooth coat across his back and rear end, then fluffy legs and tail. The smooth/thick coat is really silky, I guess due to his Saluki heritage, while the scruffy stuff is more wiry, but still not terrier-wiry, iyswim. Oh and his ears are smooth, but every so silky.

I've lost count of the times I've been asked if he's a Wolfhound. I guess he does look quite wolfy, although the floppy ears are a giveaway there and he's a good 10-12" too short to be an Irish Wolfhound at only 24" tts. Funnily enough, we tend to get asked this more when we're in Ireland.

Pip's scruff is getting harsher as he gets older but his stomach, chest and legs feel like the softest velvet-silk ever. His fur is really fine all over though, even the scruff - and he hates the rain as it affords him no protection whatsoever. I've just ordered him a raincoat as he's getting proper wussy about going for walks when it's raining.

Lola is totally fine today and my knee is better but very colourful now!

Mistlehounds scruff is all whispy too and offers very little protection against anything. Its very good at looking highlighted, windswept and 'just out of very expensive London salon' though.

Someone said at the weekend that she looked just like his Deerhound/ greyhound cross - which is where I think the solid / stockiness comes from (which is one of the reasons we chose her over the delicate saluki cross which was the other alternative). I'm not sure she's big enough for just that mix because she's just under 23".

Yes, smooth legs definitely help when it comes to mud. Pip is a lot easier to keep clean than Lurcherboy. Long-legs/stomach clearance is also helpful for this, my Soft Coated Wheaten Girl used to need a full bath after a muddy walk, whereas Oldgirl (Belgian-Shepherd x Border Collie) and Lurcherboy would be ok-ish with a towel dry and leg clean.

I am feeling broody for another dog and really have to stop looking at rescue sites, as it's just not doable at the moment. Oddly, dh does agree that another would be nice though - I thought he'd be very anti. We could do with a calm, steady bitch to supervise our two lads, but not sure we could fit in another Lurcher, unless small and whippety I suppose. I'd love something small enough to curl up on my lap, but would worry about them getting injured hooning around with my two fruit-loops.

I did ask dh if we could foster one of the LL pups, but I knew the answer before I asked - and he's right, it's just not the right time for us, as we have such a lot on this month, including our two going into kennels for a weekend (Pip's first kennel stay). Would have loved to offer to have Nikita too, but our house is far too chaotic for her.

I think I need to make some long-term plans, including passing my driving test, before we get another. At least that way I can get out and about for some more interesting walks and maybe even some meet-ups.

Should add, I am completely and utterly in love with this girl and would have her in a snap if it was possible. She has such a look of Oldgirl, I suppose being shepherd x sheep dog - but is different enough for us not to make comparisons, iyswim.

I have been having a peep at Papa - but not sure that he would cope with DS! Need the fence somewhat better too before we start getting any new dogs in.

Mistle, if you have a look on Google Images there are quite a few Deerhound/Grey crosses that resemble Mistlehound. Re height, I guess it would depend which way the genes go and how big the Grey was. Lurcherboy definitely has Deerhound and Saluki in his mix from Mum, but there was some question about Dad iirc, the person that had them said Grey/Border Collie, but looking at his height it was either a very small Grey or a Whippet. Although I suppose BC could be the source of his shorter leg length.

Pip looks a lot like some of the Deerhound/Grey mixes too, but I keep being told by other Lurcher people that they can see a fair bit of Saluki in him and he's certainly got the eyeliner for it - not to mention the personality. Oddly the closest we've seen was a Grey x Welsh Foxhound. It could have been his twin it was so similar. I'm told it's quite an old-fashioned traveller-bred mix and he was found in Wales, so who knows? I reckon he's proper Lurcher x Lurcher and has a bit of everything thrown in there, hence different people seeing different things in his mix.

Bought Pip a martingale collar the other day, as he still can't wear a harness due to his side wound. I've had him on a slip lead, but it makes me nervous, as the one we have doesn't have a stop, so decided a martingale would be better as a temporary measure. Don't think he'll be able to wear his harness for another couple of weeks, even though his staples are coming out tonight.

We're off to a VW show with him next weekend so have bought him this one and a matching bandana to cover his other collar up for the day, and spray some Pet Remedy onto.

Red's not really his colour, but it's just a bit a fun really and I couldn't find another reasonably priced VW themed collar that would get here in time.

Love it- scruffy by stealth! The puppies we looked at when we got Lola were Beddie whippet and could have gone either way but Lola stole our hearts :)

Blue is adjusting to life here. He is amazing with the children. Nothing has phased him. Yet. He loves to give them kisses. He also can sleep through their yellathons. He's not worried by the chaos or when things are being launched airborne in front/over him! I do think we've been very very lucky. The cat disagrees but I suppose you can't have everything.

Off lead sessions are going well. Aside from zoomies he loves his grub and a sofa. But a sofa with cushions. He has to have somewhere to rest his nose comfortably.

I do have some slip leads without a stopper - but I agree, I like one with a stop, particularly if DS is in charge (or we are going somewhere VERY exciting!). Normally she doesn't pull at all so its not an issue in any case. And it is amazing how small you have to have the stop on to make sure that its unbackoutable when doing the reverse twist.

Mistlehound also has eyeliner - but then our previous dog did too and I very much doubt that there was any saluki in her. However, I do think that the little patch under mistlhound's chin (not her chest) looks saluki ish - so perhaps she's got a tiny bit of that in her too. I very much doubt that its any more than 1/8th though. So perhaps deerhound / grey cross with a smaller lurcher?

Lurcherboy and the beddie both gorgeous! Moose he does have a similar look to him as my pup. We're not sure what her dad was so will be interesting to see how she turns out.

Collar and raincoat arrived today, which was lucky, as it was torrential when dh took him to the vets to have his staples out.

He was very brave and didn't make a squeak, while the vet nurse was telling dh what wusses sighthounds are and how they always make a huge fuss over the tiniest bit of pain.

I only bought slipleads to get the dogs from the house to car and back, as we don't put harnesses on them for car trips since Pip chewed through Lurcherboy's while we were driving once. I also keep a couple in the car as emergency leads, so bought lovely soft-web ones which were a really good price on ebay, but they don't have stops like the round/rope ones.

I'm trialling PetRemedy aromatherapy spray with Pip to see if it helps relax him around other dogs. Only bought the 15ml bottle to give it a try and that also arrived today. Certainly seems to do something, as I sprayed it on his t-shirt and he went really dopey for a while, then settled down to sleep. Yet to see if it does the job out and about though.

Ds2 swore it was making him feel fuzzy and it does say it works on 'all mammals' so who knows!

Hello! I wondered if I could join? I have a 16 month old rescue lurcher called benji and have just fostered an 18 month old lurcher today! I grew up with lots of pets and always wanted a dog but it was only recently that my working hours changed to make this possible. It's been an amazing 10 months and hopefully many more years to enjoy these pointy hounds to come!

Hello and welcome WonderIf. Is that Benji in the picture? He's gorgeous. I keep finding myself drawn to black and tan pointies - can't help thinking there's one in my future somewhere along the line.

How is your foster boy settling in?

Hi moosemama! The photo is of benji, is a chunky lurcher who is scared of the cats, ducks etc, loves to be fussed all day and running around with other pointy friends! Our foster boy has settled in nicely, he's very underweight though and practically inhaled his food tonight! He has spent time on walks which he seemed to enjoy and has snoozed the evening away in the new bed I got for him today. My husband went mad when he saw it! He likes our dog but doesn't have the same interest as me!!
