Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

One coat is for Pooch. A cooling/drying off coat.

She has said she will exchange it for another coat. Just need to send the extra length details and it will be bigger all over. But now I'm a bit unsure! You are not to blame Moose. Simply one of those things. That's all. MrPP had a bit of a Blush moment when he saw ££ going flying out of our account on "bloody dog coats". GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

moosemama · 08/05/2014 21:32

At least she's going to exchange it - will you get the same design in a bigger size then?

My dh is the same - raised eyebrows and mumbling whenever I spend on the dogs, but I don't buy anything for myself, don't drink or smoke or have gym membership or anything like that, so he can just keep his mumbling and grumping to himself! Grin

PeanutPatty · 08/05/2014 21:40

I will. I am panicking a bit and wonder if I need to remeasure. The coat has a funny curve above the neck. Just doesn't look right. It's almost like Blue is wearing his younger brother's hand me downs. Blush

moosemama · 08/05/2014 22:24

Is it the fold back collar that looks odd? Pip tends to wear his folded back, as he doesn't like it over his neck anyway.

I think fundamentally there are two main designs - the funnel neck style and the fold-back neckline style. If you Google Greyhound Coat and look at the images, quite a few of the fold-back ones do look a bit awkward when opened up, rather than folded back.

Hope the next one is a better fit.

PeanutPatty · 09/05/2014 14:52

So do I! Otherwise I'm stuck with a coat that doesn't fit. Sad

mistlethrush · 10/05/2014 21:42

Peanut - could you send her a picture of blue with the measurements written on top with a line of 'from' and 'to' - and perhaps a shot of him in the coat and why it doesn't fit.

We've been racing. Someone new turned up with two (different types) of Ibizan hounds. They were surprisingly slow - even mistlehound was made to look quite speedy. However, they don't seem to have the great bulge of muscle on the back legs like most of the lurchers there. They might be better of going round with the Afghans. In fact, I think the Afghans were the naughtiest there today - they really didn't want to be caught at the end!

CMOTDibbler · 10/05/2014 22:03

I don't think I've ever actually met an Afghan in RL.

Cmotdog has met his match speedwise - we've been meeting a few pointies in the park of a Saturday morning, and there is a gorgeous sleek black girl whippet who is leading him a merry dance as she's slower straight line, but can make sharp direction turns much quicker. Today they bounced through the wetlands area a great number of times, resulting in wet dog over the ears

PeanutPatty · 11/05/2014 10:52

We've been racing with the Afghan Racing Club and they are stunning dogs. All that coat must take some looking after. Most of the owners had 2-4. Must be addictive like lurchers. Smile

Racing wise a couple of them had me in stitches with the stopping for a poo then a sniff and a wander and a bit of a chase by the owner. Some of them are absolute comedians.

Mistle - good idea! Thanks. Grin

CMOTD - we haven't seen any of Blue's chase me chase me chums recently. The one dog he did play with last week (owner gave permission) was leaving the park as we arrived and when we were spotted the dog was put on the lead. Sad Not sure why and I'm trying not to be paranoid that it's for a negative reason.

PeanutPatty · 13/05/2014 12:35

Very quiet in here! Are you all out walking your hounds? Grin

mistlethrush · 13/05/2014 12:39

I wish! At work Hmm

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2014 13:27

Working too. Unhappy hound as today is my swim training day, so he doesn't get to go running with me. Its raining too.

peanut, probably they put him on the lead as he would want to be running with Blue and not going home. Cmotdog would happily spend the day in the park playing, but we do have other things to do!

PeanutPatty · 13/05/2014 14:33

You're right CMOT. I'm just paranoid in case the guy really hurt his hand due to him trying to stroke him mid zoomie as he hammered past us.

I need to go out this afternoon and I feel guilty because Pooch and Blue are sunbathing outside. Sad

mistlethrush · 13/05/2014 14:38

Its wonderful sunshine here too.

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2014 14:48

Humph, you guys have all the good weather. My chickens are sulking at the back door staring at the dog

moosemama · 13/05/2014 20:48

I'm busy trying to get both Lurcherboy and myself to lose some weight. So I'm doing the 30 day shred and walking more than usual - in between I am mostly in a state of collapse! Blush Grin

Lurcherboy is finally starting to lose weight and get fitter though, which is great. He was at the vets for vaccinations last Friday and was the highest weight he's ever been when they weighed him. Blush Of course much of this has come from him pinching Pip's dinner when our back was turned, so now he's fed separately and on a strict intake with measured training treats, as well as increased exercise.

It also helps that this week I have finally managed to get to the point where I can let them both off together without Pip being totally ott and harassing him. I can now get Pip to 'leave' when he's leaping about on Lurcherboy's head/back etc and they are actually starting to enjoy chasing each other around and playing nicely. Before I had to give Lurcherboy the command to 'run' while I had Pip on-lead or he'd just pootle around next to us, trying to schmooze treats. Hmm Neither one would run without the other, but equally Lurcherboy didn't want to run when Pip was off because Pip would get too hyper and I didn't want them off together, due to the potential for injury to either one of them, not to mention Pip's joint development.

It's lovely to see them both running free - and I've actually managed to find times when we usually have the whole park to ourselves for almost an hour, which is fantastic. Grin

GobblersKnob · 13/05/2014 21:12

Hello pointy owning people, haven't been on her for a really long time, but I'm getting a new rescue pointy at the weekend and need an outlet for my excitement as dp says he can't get excited until she is here (tbh he was like that with the dcs too HmmGrin

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2014 21:16

Oooh, what is she like Gobblers?

GobblersKnob · 13/05/2014 21:21

Oooh we can do pics now can't we?

Hang on....

GobblersKnob · 13/05/2014 21:24

Like this :)

She is so pretty, I am stupidly excited, and also quite nervous, I already have a nearly four year old whippet, who is pretty much perfect in every way, and I am worried that I shouldn't be rocking the boat, but I so want more than one dog.

moosemama · 13/05/2014 21:27

Oh she's beautiful Gobblers. Smile

What a lovely face. I have a huge soft spot for black and tan dogs and a black and tan pointy is very high on my list of 'must have one day'.

CMOTDibbler · 13/05/2014 21:29

She is gorgeous! How old?

GobblersKnob · 13/05/2014 21:35

She is an 18 mo saluki/whippet and I am slightly apprehensive about the saluki bit, but I have met her twice and she is mostly very well behaved, just a touch of pointy deafness, so her recall needs work, and she is very keen with small furry things.

This is my current boy

Greyhound, Whippet or Lurcher owner? Here's another pointy hounds cushion!
moosemama · 13/05/2014 22:22

They are going to make a very handsome couple indeed.

I wouldn't worry about the Saluki bit too much. Lurcherboy has a fair chunk of Saluki in him - although you can't see it (Mum was apparently Deerhound/Saluki) and the only time you'd know it is when/if he takes offence and slopes off to his bed if you raise your voice or are sharp with him. He is a master of the reproachful stare. Grin I think with crosses it really does depend on the individual dog as to how Saluki-like they turn out, iyswim.

Just admiring your Whippet lad's beautifully pearly white teeth - do you feed raw by any chance?

GobblersKnob · 13/05/2014 22:36

That's reassuring, I'm sure she will be fine, she is very, very affectionate and cuddly, which is lovely.

Yes I do feed raw, he is super picky and it was the only way to get him eating well and put some weight on him when he was a gangly puppy. I was very resistant initially, eating very little meat myself and being a bit squeamish, but I don't mind it at all now and it keeps him in great condition.

GobblersKnob · 13/05/2014 22:41

Just been for a nosy at your pictures, your two are gorgeous, love the picture of them sharing a bed :) hope old are they both?
