Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Hi moosemama! The photo is of benji, is a chunky lurcher who is scared of the cats, ducks etc, loves to be fussed all day and running around with other pointy friends! Our foster boy has settled in nicely, he's very underweight though and practically inhaled his food tonight! He has spent time on walks which he seemed to enjoy and has snoozed the evening away in the new bed I got for him today. My husband went mad when he saw it! He likes our dog but doesn't share my enthusiasm for pet purchases!

moosemama · 25/04/2014 23:09

Benji sounds lovely. Grin

My dh is the same about pointy related purchases. We've been going through the monthly budget tonight and he's been grumbling away at any canine related expenditure. I figure I don't drink or smoke or go out socialising, so he can just live with a few quid spend on the dogs here and there.

Good luck with your foster boy. Sounds like he's landed on his feet with you. Smile

WonderIfThingsWillChange · 26/04/2014 10:21

That's exactly right, I don't spend on other things but I do love a new collar or coat now and then Smile

First night went well with foster dog and he has met the cats, the only thing is this morning he's tried mounting benji a few times!!

mistlethrush · 26/04/2014 19:34

How old is the foster - and is this looking like play or is he pinning Benji down? (some lurchers think that is play too!). My lurcher has had an exhausting afternoon in the garden... its SO tiring for a dog, having balls that just have t obe chased every now and then... and next door's hens to occasionally have a bit of a bark at...

moosemama · 26/04/2014 19:52

Pip plays by constantly jumping on Lurcherboy's back, is it like that or actual mounting?

We've had an interesting and busy day.

First Pip refused to eat his breakfast - he's been doing that a bit over the last week or so. I put his food down, he waits for me to say 'take it' then he takes a step forward, looks panicked and backs off. I was fretting that I must have inadvertently done something to frighten him and somehow cause a negative association with mealtimes, so this morning I went in the other room and dh gave him his food - same reaction. Then dh realised Lurcherboy was eyeing Pip, then suddenly gave a low growl. He was intimidating him into not eating. Took Lurcherboy into the other room with me and Pip ate the lot straight away. Hmm

Generally I'd say Pip rules the roost, as Lurcherboy is too laid-back and too much of a wuss to stand up to him, but it seems when it comes to food - all bets are off.

To be fair, Lurcherboy is on a diet at the moment, whereas Pip has 3 meals a day, so he may be feeling somewhat disgruntled at that. Leave me with a dilemma for school run kong and treat balls though. I don't have anywhere I can separate them really and am now worried what could potentially happen if I leave treats down then leave. They've always had a combination of kongs, balls, buster cube and kong wobbler before, but it's been three weeks since they were left for school runs, so maybe things have changed. Hmm

Took Pip for a walk around the kennels this morning. He was very good, but tried - unsuccessfully - to hide behind me when the other dogs were barking in their runs. Hmm He had a blast in the paddock though and got on really well with the staff, so am feeling a little better about having to leave him in a few weeks.

Then we went for a walk in our favourite park, only to find we had the place to ourselves - haven't a clue why, as it's usually really busy at the weekends. Both dogs had a fab walk - all off-lead, chasing each other round and round and were so good with their whistle recalls that I was a little sad noone else was there to see it! Grin It was Pip's first off-lead walk since his side injury and he really made the most of it. Smile

WonderIfThingsWillChange · 26/04/2014 20:06

It did look like mounting to me. I just separated them for a bit. Foster boy is 18 months and mine is 16 months.

I took them for a walk early to the field, benji went off lead and I kept foster dog on a long line so they both had a good walk today. I did manage to get quite tangled with the long line though, think walking 2 dogs will take some practice!! Blush

moosemama · 26/04/2014 21:31

It could well have been mounting, some male - and even female - dogs do it when they're over-excited.

WonderIfThingsWillChange · 26/04/2014 21:50

Thanks for the link moosemama! It's really useful, I was making some rookie mistakes! Here's a pic of him Smile

I have an IG, here he is, he is 2.5 years old and his personality makes up for what he lacks in stature!

Thank you for all the helpful advice on the previous thread Thanks

Roxy is seeing a new vet Monday afternoon so will update once our girl has been seen. Smile

She's currently sitting on the sofa next to me fast asleep with her front legs laid over my thighs Grin oh I love her so much.

OnaPromise · 27/04/2014 07:36

Wonder we had a foster that was mounting my boy for the first few days. Ladies at the rescue said it was probably an expression of anxiety, and right enough it stopped when he settled down a bit. I just kept saying 'off' and removing him.

OnaPromise · 27/04/2014 07:40

Hairy I hope she is ok

cinnamongreyhound · 27/04/2014 21:57

Loving all the photos!

Do any of your dogs have an obsession with eating poo? My two both act like they've been starved gobbling up almost any kind (except dogs as far as I can tell)!

KaFayOLay · 27/04/2014 22:04

Ours doesn't eat his own poo but guinea pig poo appears to be heaven sent!

Gooner123 · 28/04/2014 08:05

Yes bunny poo is a great fav, also partial to a bit of cat poo, dirty boy.

moosemama · 28/04/2014 09:32

Lovely photo cinammon. Hard to tell where one dog starts and the other ends until you click to make it larger, such a handsome pair of hounds. Smile

We are finally poo-eating-dog free after years of having that particular skill passed down from one dog to the next. It started with our GSD girl who was at death's door from starvation when she arrived and would eat anything and everything, she taught our first Lurcher and so it continued.

Ours did eat dog poo though - each others, but not out and about, thankfully. Worst case was one particularly disgusting hound that used to like a hot meal straight from the dispenser so-to-speak. She would stand under our biggest dog's back end and trough as it was being dispensed. Envy

CMOTDibbler · 28/04/2014 10:29

Horse, rabbit, and chicken poo all apparently the food of kings here

moosemama · 28/04/2014 10:40

Just remembered - fresh cowpats - Pip discovered them on a recent walk and I spent the whole time we were out using his 'leave' command, which thankfully is pretty reliable. Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2014 11:18

Mostly cat, rabbit and horse in our house, that story really is Envy moosemama! Thank you, they really are best friends now :) The worst I've had was when Lola had obviously eaten cat poo before a car journey and her sick was hideous!

PeanutPatty · 28/04/2014 13:54

Pooch loves a poo and if she bogs off and ignores all attempts at recall I know it because she is stuffing her face with poo. She will actively seek it out too. Dirty dawg.

OnaPromise · 28/04/2014 19:49

Our pup is obsessed with raiding the cat litter.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2014 21:00

Can't believe it Lola caught a rabbit tonight Shock

PeanutPatty · 28/04/2014 21:07

Yikes! Will you muzzle her from now on? Did she put it out of its misery?

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2014 21:17

No I probably won't, it was dead when she bought it back but no actual signs of harm. She dropped it as soon as I told her to. She's pretty much only off when we doggy run these days.

PeanutPatty · 28/04/2014 21:25

Perhaps it was dead when she found it?
