Wtf is wrong with my dog??

Worst night ever. He wouldn't just lay down on or under the bed like he usually does, he was panting like crazy and barking and growling.

I went and let him out at 1am in case that was the problem but he carried on after he came in.

About 3 he started growling under the bed and woke up my baby... I got down on the floor to tell him to get out and as I reached to stroke his nose he bit me. Quite badly and it bled for a while.

(He has bitten once before, years ago, when my oldest DC was a baby and a strange man grabbed his face, but we immediately got a police dog handler round the house to help and he's been amazing since.)

I've checked him all over today to see if anything hurts and it doesn't seem to, the only new thing he has (which I'm sure is nothing) is a little wart on his tail.

He's a 7 year old cocker spaniel and we really love him. He's very restless even now and panting like crazy. He occasionally lays down and trembles Confused

He does need a haircut but
not desperately so, and it's not hot.

I can't take him to the vet by myself with a toddler and a baby but have booked an appointment tomorrow evening when DH would be here.

Ideally I want to take him now Sad I'm so worried.

Really glad to hear he's back at home and sleeping. Keep us updated, won't you OP?

curiousgeorgie · 05/02/2014 21:38

I will... Unsure if I should try him with any dinner or just let him sleep. DH should have asked the vet..

I would let him sleep.
He won't starve in a day.
See how he is tomorrow.

Agree with coffeeinbed ... let him sleep.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 05/02/2014 22:50

Just read this post, did you get him to the vets ?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 05/02/2014 23:52

Glad it's not bad news. Was very worried for you! Hope he's back to his old self tomorrow. Smile

Goldencity1 · 06/02/2014 01:49

Just caught up with this, so good to hear he's ok!

mistlethrush · 06/02/2014 10:08

How's he doing this morning?

curiousgeorgie · 06/02/2014 10:13

So much better, very sleepy but his nose is not so warm and he's completely calm! It's a much better morning than yesterday Wink

Still keeping the DD away from him for a day or so to be sure... She was upset he didn't try and sleep on her bed!

Glad he is feeling better ,did the vet think it was related to his tail ?

tabulahrasa · 06/02/2014 10:50

Very happy that he's doing better and was nothing too serious. :)

Frettchen · 06/02/2014 11:01

So happy you've got a dx and dog seems happier this morning. Poor lamb!

SnakeyMcBadass · 06/02/2014 11:10

Glad he's on the mend. I think you're wise to keep him and the DC separated for a bit, just until he's better.

curiousgeorgie · 06/02/2014 11:28

No, the wart on his tail is exactly that, and looks fine so unrelated.

Just come across this thread. Very glad he's feeling better.

I just want to say that if he has bitten your hand please don't hang around if you feel the wounds are becoming more painful or if there's increasing redness or swelling. These are signs of infection and the combination of the bacteria found in a dog's mouth with the sensitive and poorly circulated structures of the hand can be a difficult one to treat. It's better to see a doctor sooner than to wait until infection is really setting in.

Hope he's all better soon :)
