The doghouse

Wtf is wrong with my dog??

Worst night ever. He wouldn't just lay down on or under the bed like he usually does, he was panting like crazy and barking and growling.

I went and let him out at 1am in case that was the problem but he carried on after he came in.

About 3 he started growling under the bed and woke up my baby... I got down on the floor to tell him to get out and as I reached to stroke his nose he bit me. Quite badly and it bled for a while.

(He has bitten once before, years ago, when my oldest DC was a baby and a strange man grabbed his face, but we immediately got a police dog handler round the house to help and he's been amazing since.)

I've checked him all over today to see if anything hurts and it doesn't seem to, the only new thing he has (which I'm sure is nothing) is a little wart on his tail.

He's a 7 year old cocker spaniel and we really love him. He's very restless even now and panting like crazy. He occasionally lays down and trembles Confused

He does need a haircut but
not desperately so, and it's not hot.

I can't take him to the vet by myself with a toddler and a baby but have booked an appointment tomorrow evening when DH would be here.

Ideally I want to take him now Sad I'm so worried.

Hey curiousgeorgie hope everything's ok. Your poor dog. Sad My boy is a cocker spaniel too. I was going to ask if he's golden, as someone once told me they develop some sort of cocker rage and go loopy. Hope it hasn't transferred across the line. Please let us know how it goes.

He was dropped at the vet earlier...heard nothing yet other than his gums are pale. DH is there now to talk to the vet and pick him up.

Confused

We've all been thinking about you today. Hope he's OK and that the vet can throw some light on the problem.

Is he insured?

He's okay thank god...

He's got a really high fever and some kind of infection. That's the reason for the way he was acting and he's got painkillers, antibiotics and a sedative should he need it..

Smile So relieved. I've been googling horror stories all day. I really thought I was going to end up without him.. Sad

Phew, so glad he's been seen and has been treated. Great thing about animals is they seem to pick up quickly.

Thank heaven you got him to the vets. Hopefully he'll bounce back quickly once the antibiotics get working.

Well, he certainly isn't going to need the sedative! 30 minutes after his painkillers and he's totally passed out in his bed... Smile
