I wondered if anyone else
has a dog that runs off in fear at the sight or sound of a regular household object?

My Spollie freaks out at - bubble wrap.
You don't have to pop it he knows it's there! Xmas day saw him shaking and running to hide. It must be the sound of it someone's hands. He knows what it's capable of... Quiver.....

My daft cocker shakes at polythene blowing in the wind, it has to be caught on a bush though.

Bubble wrap - poor thing must hate this time of year Smile

daisychicken · 29/12/2013 19:52

Sellotape...... Confused

PersonalClown · 29/12/2013 19:52

My staffy has ishoos with any and all washing baskets.

He starts gobbing off at me if I so much as pick one up.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 29/12/2013 19:53

The tub I use to carry around washing is always bark/attack worthy.

cathpip · 29/12/2013 19:54

My old dog was frightened of the postman, my new dog is terrified of the Hoover.

rudolphdrops · 29/12/2013 20:04

My lab is terrified if I get anything related to cleaning, a feather duster sends her into a shaking mess. Sweeping brush Hoover, mop, duster, polish issues. She was a rescue so think her previous owners might of been a bit abusive when cleaning. It's probably a blessing I'm a bit of a slatten but I do send her into the quiet of the utility room when I do clean.

SnakeyMcBadass · 29/12/2013 20:05

Hoover, crutches/walking sticks, and a ceramic pig.

littlejo67 · 29/12/2013 20:07

Both mine run off when the hoover comes out.
Seems to be common to have a fear of plastic products!
I can wind up my springer by waving orange peel at her - I bend it menacingly (to spray the zest) and she gives me the evils backs away and barks!

do you know how many dogs get eaten by hoovers everyday? Grin
Our shirley thinks she is next.
She is also afraid of beards and hats. And thunder and loud noises,
coming to think of it ,it's probably easier to count the things she is not afraid of... Hmm

littlejo67 · 29/12/2013 20:14

Lol at men that stand still! That should be most men then Wink [w

Also, wheelie bins. Especially those bastard ones that are empty and rattle when you pull them.

Caffeineaddictedmumof4 · 29/12/2013 20:18

The hoover, doesn't have to be switched on, I can just touch it & she goes mad, scary hoover Grin

littlejo67 · 29/12/2013 20:19

Forgot one - tape measures, capable of a lethal bite..

Ours has no problem with the hoover, but hates irish accents, and people who smell of drink. She will lean against you quivering if we encounter any of this.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 29/12/2013 20:23

His own farts Hmm tbf they are pretty rough Grin

VinoEsmeralda · 29/12/2013 20:24

The extractor fan above the cooker, he loves hoovers though and loves being hoovered.

He loves eating popcorn but is running away as far as he possibly can when we make it. Firework is another one, doesn't want to go out in the dark in November&december

WitchOfEndor · 29/12/2013 20:25

His own food bowl, because it clanged against his water bowl when he rammed his greedy head into it. And the toaster, whenever we put it on he disappears until the toast pops up and then he begs for scraps loon

MunchBunch01 · 30/12/2013 14:36

Sheep on the telly, our Spaniel went nuts and ran away from Countryfile a couple of weeks ago.lol

D0oinMeCleanin · 30/12/2013 14:42

Whippy - pretty much everything. Today's was the stick dd2 picked up to use as a walking stick. She's never been hit with a stick.

She's also afraid of house rabbits, cardboard boxes, clickers, remote control toys, especially the robot and helicopter, though is also not keen on the car or dog, the hoover, the steam cleaner and the noise of the final spin on the washer.

She spends a lot of time hiding. I spend a lot of time trying to acclimatise her to these things. Usually unsuccessfully however she is no longer scared of the postman, we won that one.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 30/12/2013 14:44

My lab disappears as soon as the Dyson comes out of the cupboard too. Which is a shame, as I secretly harbour a wish to see if giving him a good hoovering would help with the permanent moulting hair issue we have! It would probably choke the Dyson though.

He's not too keen on Ds's new Despicable Me Fart Blaster gun either. But that's just good sense, frankly, it's one of those "WHY did Santa think that was a fun idea????"

pigsinmud · 30/12/2013 14:44

Ds2's remote controlled helicopter, bubble wrap & champagne/cava bottles...she doesn't even wait for the pop, just sees us unwrapping the foil and wire and she's off. She also doesn't like water bottles if you squeeze them and air comes out!

WeAllHaveWings · 30/12/2013 17:16

kitchen floor (he slipped after getting a fright from a firework)

and santa (ds took out noisy santa toy and set it off in front of dog, now he is suspicious of anything santa shaped)
