I wondered if anyone else
has a dog that runs off in fear at the sight or sound of a regular household object?

My Spollie freaks out at - bubble wrap.
You don't have to pop it he knows it's there! Xmas day saw him shaking and running to hide. It must be the sound of it someone's hands. He knows what it's capable of... Quiver.....

Men carrying large sports holdalls - for some reason these are Very Scary and need to be barked at - apart from that he's pretty unflappable unless a helicopter goes really low overhead

Sparrowghost · 30/12/2013 17:53

One of mine is terrified of feathers and does the BEST comedy side leaps if he walks past one and spots it Grin If he spots it in time, he'll avoid it in a wide arc

ItsTrueLefou · 30/12/2013 17:53

The Hoover.

Snowmen.

MuttonCadet · 30/12/2013 17:57

The hoover is clearly an evil dog eating beast that we humans just aren't aware of, muttondog backs away very quickly when ours comes out (won't turn around, she needs to see where it is at all times).

My dog is only scared of the Hoover, nothing else phases him. I wish I could Hoover the moulty sod!

MuttonCadet · 30/12/2013 20:42

Oh, and just found out champagne corks popping, (very, very clumsy stealth boast)

My dog, working cocker spaniel....gun dog.....frightened by a car door shutting and yesterday a glass with alka seltzer fizzing freaked him out !! Not quite ready for the shoot yet ;)

plannedshock · 30/12/2013 22:27

Cling film
The clothes horse
His bed (or anything he can get a static shock from, he literally spends the next hr avoiding at all cost, like it's just bitten him)

Mitzi50 · 30/12/2013 22:30

My mother's dog was terrified whenever she wore a hat.

daftyburd · 01/01/2014 09:17

Our old girl is scared of beards, walking sticks, hats on men, men who have drunk alcohol, shopping trolleys and the hairdryer. Had her all her life so know there is no reason for her to be scared of any of the above.
Yet to find anything small dog finds scary!

daftyburd · 01/01/2014 09:18

Oh forgot the old girl also hates the ironing board??

HomeHypno · 04/01/2014 17:25

Gym ball. It is like a scene from 'Prisoner'....

SaveMeTheLastGreenTriangle · 04/01/2014 22:19

Scared witless by a sandbag... Confused

Merrybuddha · 04/01/2014 22:24

My dog a big brave Staffie not is petrified of feathers!!

Takingbackmonday · 04/01/2014 22:25

My Westie hated grey haired men but it sorted of made sense because when I was young I fell over, cut head open and a much loved (grey haired) family friend carried me inside (before 18 stitches!)

Lots of Spaniels :) ours was scared of any cleaning equipment.

lucyjack · 05/01/2014 09:56

My son's dog is scared of his own willy and growls at it then chases it and bites it...you should hear the yelp when his teeth make contact!

feetlikeahobbit · 05/01/2014 10:03

Hoovers, cars driving by, fireworks, thunder, tumble drier in fact anything that makes a noise!
She's better than she was when we got her, but I think this is as good as it gets at least we don't have to carry her for 100yrds after a car has gone by, oh what fun walks they were :)

topknob · 05/01/2014 10:05

Hoover, nerf guns and spaniels.

DropDeadThread · 05/01/2014 10:14

Balloons and anything which clicks (duplo, spud guns, DVD cases).

PrammyMammy · 05/01/2014 10:20

Anything with a sheen finish - electric fire and the tv when it's off. He barks at it then runs away. It's his own reflection. Hmm

littlejo67 · 05/01/2014 10:53

When anyone is in a bad mood my dogs senses it and runs upstairs. This is true for the slightest bit of irritation in anyones voice (he hates been told off).
If I come in from work and it's been a really bad day he takes one look at me and scarpers!
I am left saying "no no come back I need you".
Just when you need canine therapy...
