Cancelled insurance to swap it to another at the end of the month. Cheaper cover and better to come out just after payday.

5 years with not a single days illness. Not one vet visit.

Today he's only bloody ill.

Tummy all swollen and tender. 1 puke and 1 sloppy poo. Managed to eat his supper though.

Bloody git.

Sods law at its finest!

You'll have to hope it's something simple, a cheap vet's visit and then you can console yourself it wouldn't have been worth claiming by the time you paid the excess.

Unless you had no excess Grin

AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 08:51

Bollocks. He's not well. Vet is needed.

ihatethecold · 24/05/2013 08:52

Could it be bloat.
Is he a deep chested dog?

Poor thing.

AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 08:58

Dachshund. Not happy at all and hurting.

Got appointment at 11.30.

Poor dog.

Pascha · 24/05/2013 09:08

Poor doggy. Just out of interest, what possessed you to cancel this insurance before the new cover started?

AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 09:27

God only knows. Was browsing along as it was coming up to annual renewal date and it seemed like a good idea since he's never had a moments illness. So cross with myself. Idiot.

AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 09:28

Git new cover but of course it doesn't cover for the first week. Which is next wednesday. Aaaaaargh

OP posts:
AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 09:28

Doesn't matter though. Poor dog is very sad.

How's your little daschy now?

Frettchen · 24/05/2013 12:28

Similar story here - I didn't go as far as to cancel my dog's insurance, but I switched to one with a higher excess, thinking I'd save on the lower monthly payments as she's never been ill/unwell, and sure enough she's done her leg an injury and is in today for x-rays.

Hope your boy's ok.

AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 12:54

Vet thinks back not guts.

Got painkillers and he's on strict rest for a week. Only £40 so underneath excess anyway.

5 sodding years with not so much as a twinge. I sincerely hope it's not the beginning of something ongoing and expensive. That really would be bad timing.

He'll enjoy his rest anyway. Lazy little git.

Might have to go to bed for a cwtch and a nap. He'll like that.

OP posts:
Pascha · 24/05/2013 13:20

I might do the same with my 4mo boy.

ExitPursuedByABear · 24/05/2013 13:23

Poor dog. Hope he feels better soon.

musicposy · 24/05/2013 14:30

Oh, poor thing. Do hope he's on the mend soon, for both him and for your pocket.

moosemama · 24/05/2013 14:37

Aw poor dog. Hope he feels better soon.

Truly sods law about the insurance though - same thing happened to us when we cancelled a policy because with the premiums, plus excess and old age % of cost payments, we felt it just wasn't worth carrying it on for a dog that was literally never ill in her life before - she promptly developed cancer on her jaw. Lesson learned the hard way. Hmm Sad

AtYourCervix · 24/05/2013 16:01

We've had a lovely nap together Grin

AtYourCervix · 28/05/2013 16:06

Dog is suddenly much worse. Back end all wobbly.

Aside from the arsing indurance not coveting him until ftiday and not for any illness developing this week I'm really worried. Vet at 4.45.

moosemama · 28/05/2013 16:28

Good luck at the vets AYC.

Thinking of you and your poorly boy.

ratbagcatbag · 28/05/2013 16:31

Good luck at the vets.

50BalesOfHay · 28/05/2013 16:34

We cancelled vet insurance on two of the horses as premiums so high. Two weeks later one was diagnosed with cancer. Cost us £4.5k. She's made a full recovery though. Hope your dog recovers quickly and not too expensively.

MultumInParvo · 28/05/2013 16:35

Aww good luck hope it's not too serious

smokinaces · 28/05/2013 16:42

Hope vets goes well, we had a dauchsand when I was a teen, beautiful dogs.
