Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

Jake
I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

The Tent of Destiny is a name that Cunny thought up!! And then she gave me a beautiful little wooden plaque with it carved on as well - so we always take it with us. (Such a shame we can't attach photos to our posts.) Not for camping as such - but for when we have a stall at events.

Naturally, the hounds wear these delightfully smart fleece housecoats Wink - Norty Minx has the orange floral, Andy has purple, Mick has blue spots, and little Murgatroyd has pink spots. I'm not so much of a fan of the PJ style as with arthritic dogs it can be harder to get them on.

Working link hopefully - http://www.milgicoats.co.uk/index.php/fleece-house-coats here

Scuttlebutter · 15/03/2013 15:36

Aaargh!!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 15:39

Ahh mistle, you have yet to discover the wondrous delights of The Tent Of Destiny, where Madame Scuttle will be sat inside draped in shawls behind a gauzy curtain with her crystal ball and her DH will be outside wearing a fez and a large moustache luring you in. . . Ok well, that's not strictly true, The Tent Of Destiny is Scuttles stall where she sells her fabulous products, affectionately named TTOD :)

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 15:50

Was it me? I thought it was Lock or Lost/MrS.

Scuttlebutter · 15/03/2013 15:51

It was one of the MN Pointy Gang - I thought it was you, but am happy to be corrected. Grin

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 15:57

And there is a working link in the OP of this cushion Wink:o

MagratGarlik · 15/03/2013 18:02

Mistle, Derbyshire is my neck of the woods and Doncaster is not too far away. I might be interested in a whippet/lurcher race day, sounds fun!

I'll pm you.

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 18:19

Doncaster isn't far from me either, only about 20 odd miles :)

MagratGarlik · 15/03/2013 19:07

Yay! Midlands/Yorkshire pointy meet!

londonergirl13 · 15/03/2013 19:13

I'm new, but I have thre pointies, I only have three dogs in total, and one foster pup who we've had three months.

An Iggy called Lucia.
A lurcher (greyhound cross Norwich terrier) called Ginny
A lurcher (whippet x border collie) called Jess
A whippet called Emma.

And our foster pup is a lurcher (greyhound x deerhound) who is only tiny!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 19:24

Welcome Londoner :) I'm slightly confused though, are you a 4 dog household or a 5 dog (inc. foster pup) household? Squeee! At Iggy though! I'd be terrified of having one, I'd end up breaking it Blush:o

MagratGarlik · 15/03/2013 19:33

I was wondering the same. Was thinking my brains had been fried after a though week.

Welcome, Londoner.

I too would be worried about breaking an Iggy. I'd probably sit on it or something!!!

MrSlant · 15/03/2013 19:57

I'd love an Iggy, there are a pair that need re-homing through Scruples (I think) at the moment but they have said they will only home them with someone Iggy experienced or I would have called. There's also an Iggy/Whippet cross on one of the non breed specific sites. I really must step away from the rescues until we can actually offer one a home Grin. Sorry, hello Londoner , greyhound/deerhound and tiny sounds like the most beautiful dog ever, I'm gutted DH is insisting we can only have another whippet, no lurchers allowed or even Very Tall Whippets as Scuttle is insisting I call greys in an attempt to win DH round Grin.

I would love to visit TTOD, have fun in deepest Cardianshire Scuttle, I hear they are very odd round those parts Wink.

MagratGarlik · 15/03/2013 21:01

'Very tall whippets' I like that Grin.

I think I saw a whippet on the GRWE site lately. I don't know how up to date they keep it though.

Personally I think of our grip pet as a starter greyhound. Large whippy sized with grey temperament.

ScariestFairyByFar · 15/03/2013 21:27

Can I join getting a whippet x tomorrow not sure what she's x with will put up a pic so you can try & help me guess.

MrSlant · 15/03/2013 21:29

Yay, more people for the quiche cushion Grin. I will settle down and await the picture, I love playing guess the lurcher mix.

ScariestFairyByFar · 15/03/2013 21:55

Picture up now Smile

MagratGarlik · 15/03/2013 22:15

Cute!

Some French bulldog in there maybe? What lovely ears!

MrSlant · 15/03/2013 22:16

They are the best ears! Very pointy hound.

londonergirl13 · 15/03/2013 22:22

This is what he looks like this one a scruffy day tiny in age, not size!

Four dogs permanently. But with foster dog, five, hoping it might well be a permanent five eventually, but for now we are a happy five dog family, even if one is a temporary member.

Yeah, first few days I was worried that she'd shatter. She's a blue fawn colour and our very very robust, pretty china doll. Active as any dog though, and loves a snuggle, but it took time to get over the fear of breaking her in half!

londonergirl13 · 15/03/2013 22:26

Ears are beautiful! I know this sounds odd, but Staffie? The face shape is similar in some ways but I might be weird! Don't know about the ears origin, but she's absolutely beautiful!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 22:26

Welcome to the cushion Fairy :) what fabulous ears! I thought she's maybe a Whiffie (the brill name scuttle thought of for a Whippet x Staffie), she has a slightly Staffie-ish face although thinner than an actual SBT. She's beautiful whatever she's crossed with!

londonergirl13 · 15/03/2013 22:29

Also wondering, if a whippet x (Staffie x blah blah) ears remind of a Pharoah Hound but that's just me connecting the ears t a friemd's dog so probably not correct?

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee · 15/03/2013 22:33

Ahh great minds Londoner, great minds :o

Lucia sounds gorgeous, is she a lot more robust than she looks then? I'd love a scruffy grey Lurcher, sooo jealous Envy
