Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

Jake
I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

Cunny, yes, those would definitely work. However, I think that we would have to take the kitchen door off to fit one... and we might get a few raised eyebrows if we ever came to sell the house Grin

Mistlehound doesn't appear to be of a particularly high IQ (plenty of grey in her I think) and working out how to open one of those would almost certainly be beyond her. She even manages to get her head out of a door and wedge her shoulders and give up at the moment Grin. She is, gradually and slowly, adding to her repertoire of words that she knows. I don't think she'll ever manage to catch a biscuit though - I can sometimes hit her nose (gently!) with a run of 10 treats and she makes no effort to catch them before they hit her!!!)

BehindLockNumberNine · 12/04/2013 09:55

Oh MrsS, that is awful news about your BIL. I really hope there is some positive news soon, what a nightmare Sad

I can just see Whippety strolling round the hotel in all his finery though, waht a lovely mental image Smile

My pretend-Whippety is not at all refined. He is a bit too ungainly and does not carry himself gracefully like true whippets.
He is also permanently covered in mud somewhere on his body...

We are taking him to North Norfolk for a long weekend in May. We have hired a cottage and booked a seal-watching boat trip on which he is welcome too Grin

Cunny, have a fab time at Scuttle's even if she will be making you sleep in a bed full of doggy muddy crumbs!! Wink

MrSlant · 12/04/2013 11:53

He walks like a racehorse most of the time! Particularly on slippy marble tiles, he looked super elegant. I will admit that I took time over his wardrobe, lime green leather broad collar, matching colour tweed lead and his super elegant black/bright mad flowers pattern Milgi walking out coat (which has accents of lime green). He looked superb. Any paps he would probably just have been aloof licked them all over and begged to be their friend.

I hope he enjoys his seal watching trip, I bet he'll love it, our hotel room was on the 9th floor so whippety boy spent his whole time looking down on seagulls etc, seemed to be fascinating!

I know exactly where you are coming from with the treats on the nose scenario, great fun though Grin.

Scuttlebutter · 12/04/2013 12:54

Reverb and Bass are such cool names for studio cats. Grin

I love that Trent Reznor has all those greyhounds elegantly draped over his studio - I bet everyone else gets secretly pissed off though,as they are constantly either tripping over them or getting gassed.

Mistle - have a fabulous time at the races. Go Mistlehound!

We've got our two youngest nephews coming over this weekend, and taking them to local greyhound charity Spring Fun Day and charity dog show on Sunday. Should be great fun, though the weather forecast is a bit iffy. Still, we can all put boots on and we won't rust. Will also be making a birthday cake for me and Andy, that I can share with DH and the boys. Will probably use my Ikea heart shaped silicon mould - it's perfect for a 3 egg Victoria sponge, and looks lovely just split, with jam and buttercream. I've become quite converted to using those silicon cake cases - absolutely brilliant. Sorry for wandering off thread a bit there. Blush

MagratGarlik · 12/04/2013 13:42

We had some cats outside the house, earlier - one ginger stripped and one black. Cue dogs standing battling at the window, then running to me and looking with pleading eyes, "can we have them? Please, can we have them- look they match us".

It's amazing how Jessie morphs when she sees anything furry from quiet, placid girl to slobbering beast. Woody just follows suit.

It is a pity I will miss going to see the racing this weekend - I think it will be fairly broken bone incompatible, so I'm going to sit home and feel sorry for myself instead.

Cake sounds yummy, Scuttle. You are very talented in these things. Actually, that's what I'll do this afternoon - get the boys baking. OK, that's the rest of today sorted....

MagratGarlik · 12/04/2013 13:42

*barking, not battling. Stupid predictive text (again).

Scuttlebutter · 12/04/2013 14:20

Magrat, cake is embarrassingly simple. Blush I use Mary Berry's all in one recipe (have done for nearly 20 years) and it is guaranteed to work. Wish I could send you a virtual slice and hope broken limb mends rapidly.

And an afternoon of baking, barking and battling sounds great!

YourHandInMyHand · 12/04/2013 14:25

MrSlant hope your BIL gets better soon how scary! I'm loving all these dogs on holiday images. Smile I have finally managed to get a photo of Shy Dog, it's on my profile.

TheCunnyFunt · 12/04/2013 14:49

Yy to silicone cake cases! Great aren't they? I have a few of them. Although I gave up with the muffin cases, they were too fiddly to clean out and they just kept going mouldy from tiny bits getting missed.

Oh dear Magrat, it must be pretty boring being linited to what you can do! How mobile are you?

YourHand she's gorgeous! Is that a holiday pic on there too? Looks lovely and hot wherever it is!

Thanks Lock, I will :) Funny you should mention muddy doggy crumbs actually, just discovered I will be sleeping in Andy's bed Shock :o

YourHandInMyHand · 12/04/2013 14:53

I've never tried a silicone cake case, I will have to give them a go as everyone only has good to say about them.

Yes it is a holiday snap, El Djem in Tunisia. I took DS last summer we had a fab time, and yep it was very hot - in the 40s most of the time!

ShyDog still hasn't mastered stairs, she's not even tried and I'm quite glad as I have enough bed invaders as it is! Grin

mistlethrush · 12/04/2013 15:11

We've managed to persuade mistledog that beds really are for humans not dogs, although she's very envious and occasionally sneeks up if I'm not around... However, on her first night she managed a bounce from ds's doorway on to his bed (about 6' in sideways distance, plus the 'up') in a bound, then went from the bottom corner of our (king size) bed to the far side where DH was sleeping - again in a single move... neither recipient of her happiness at being allowed out of the kitchen to be with the rest of the family was particularly grateful of the experience Grin

Any plans for the summer half term yet? I'm wondering if we'll find a friendly dog for mistlehound to romp on the dunes with.

TheCunnyFunt · 12/04/2013 15:51

The only thing I will say about the silicone cases is, you have to take the cake out almost straight away otherwise it'll sweat and get a soggy bottom. No-one likes a soggy bottom do they?

Ooh Tunisia? Lovely, I'd heard it was hot but in the 40's? Ouch!

CMOTDibbler · 12/04/2013 18:37

I have to say, everything I've made in the muffin silicone cases has not gone well.
Currently I have a batch of gluten/grain/dairy free choc chip cookies cooling which I baked on silicone sheets, which are brilliant.

Foiled by cat1s reluctance to play with his toys, cmotdog is now dropping them on the rabbit hutch in the vain hope that he will play Hmm

BehindLockNumberNine · 12/04/2013 19:42

Cunny, which Andy??? Wink

TheCunnyFunt · 12/04/2013 19:57

CMOT I had a nosy at your piccies to see if there was one of cmotdog (I forget who has what hound Blush) and OMG your DS and his pony! Squeee! So cute!!! And I'm loving the spotty red dress too :)
:o at trying to persuade the rabbit to play :o

Lock! Shock Andy the Greyhound of course! :o

MagratGarlik · 12/04/2013 20:02

Cunny, I'm on crutches but cannot put weight on my leg, so I can move around, but not for long. After 100 metres I am exhausted. I also can't drive either atm.

On the plus side, I am hoping the crutches will do wonders for the tone of my arms.

Our house spans 3 floors though and I have to go up and down on my bottom whilst carrying the crutches. It is very undignified. The dogs are annoyed that they currently miss their lunchtime walk.

YourHand, shydog is gorgeous.

TheCunnyFunt · 12/04/2013 20:38

Oh blimey. You must be ever so fed up! You'll have to take up knitting Wink :o Just a tip, MIL used to live in a 3 storey house and she got knocked off her pushbike and got a broken leg, it never healed properly and it's a bit mangled now. When they still lived in the 3 storey she'd chuck all the dirty laundry out the windows onto the patio below so she didn't have to cart it up and down the stairs :o

MagratGarlik · 12/04/2013 20:46

I will admit, our stairs have a gap down the middle so from the top floor, you can see the ground floor. I have been known to chuck the washing down the gap rather than carrying it Blush.

Now I'm just ignoring it and leaving it for dp to do. The problem is men have an amazing ability to not see jobs that need doing in the house.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 12/04/2013 21:01

More celebs with greyhounds.

I am a tiny bit, slightlyish obsessed with Damian Lewis at the moment. (Have just started watching Homeland) and I didn't know his wife was Helen McRory. Who I met with greyhound in a cafe in Hackney and who, it turned out, adopted from the same place as us. She wasn't very friendly. But anyway, my Damian Lewis fixation has entered new territory now I know he's a greyhound owner too. And lives in Hackney.

Arf @ cmotdog and his determination.

Scuttlebutter · 12/04/2013 22:36

That's really sad that she wasn't friendly, Betsey. One of the nicest things about being owned by a pointy is that wherever you go, generally if you see another pointy nose, you tend to gravitate and chat (and compare collars Blush). The other embarrassing thing is that very often I will talk to DH on the phone and say "We met this lovely grund today at the park, nice pointy nose, lovely lean, gorgeous collar etc, dog is called Spot, is related to etc etc ". After 10 minutes of dog's life history DH will ask about the owner and I will go blank and say something like "Um, oh, it was a nice man, I think" Blush One of the few times that being a sleb will make absolutely no difference cos most pointy fiends will be far more interested in her grund's family tree, which kennel etc than who she is married to.

Lakers38 · 12/04/2013 22:47

Hi, I love Greyhounds, I owned 4 until last year when sadly my oldest died. Still got 3.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/04/2013 09:33

I know Scuttle. I couldn't have given less of a monkey's about her celebness. The dog otoh...! That's funny about your DH - love that he notices the collar too!

As we know too many Rubies who are actual little girls, we're going to call her Roxy

Hi Lakers38!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/04/2013 09:34

(Billy has the chaps one.)

MagratGarlik · 13/04/2013 10:11

That collar is fab, Betsey.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/04/2013 18:20

I love a bit of kitsch, me.
