Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

We've got a day's racing on Saturday - DS and I will be taking mistlehound. Apparently they're even borrowing some crates so that people can crate their dogs in the cafe area and sit down properly - we normally leave one out with the dog and the other one does all the fetching etc....

COLLAR PORN:

Just ordered this for ShyDog, it's ever so pretty. Smile
Have also ordered a nice leather collar and lead for walkies. I need to hide my bank card now!

I love black dogs and cats, I think they're the best - don't understand why people aren't keen. I've ended up with a beautiful fawn and white GH though, maybe if I win the lottery and get a bigger house I'll get a black GH too. Grin

mistlethrush · 10/04/2013 14:00

Warning, high collar porn allert!:

here

I think DH would notice though, wouldn't he?

TheCunnyFunt · 10/04/2013 14:46

I love that Artemis site, I will have one of their collars one day!

They're lovely ones too YourHand.

A couple of other websites are Dog O'nine Tails and Meggie Moo.

A visitor you say Scuttle? That's a coincidence, considering I'm going to Wales the same weekend you're getting a visitor :o

MrSlant · 10/04/2013 14:51

Cunny still in a coma unfortunately. I'm so glad your brother is looking better, what a nightmare that he will be tube fed for so long, will they fit a peg or will he have to have an annoying NG tube the whole time? He must be desperate for a bit of flavour and something to chew. DBil's mates were asking if they could fit a nice bit of cheese down his feeding tube last week Grin.

I've just remembered that I have whippety's brother and my friends other dog for a week from this weekend so I won't be able to come over and say hi, I thought we would be visiting but I'd forgotten about the damn dogs!

Who linked to that website for rehoming greyhounds? I waaaaant one so bad now! Scuttle, do you remember about the grey that was in rescue near here that I told you about, one of my friends lost her old girl and went straight over to get him because I told her about him too. So now I get to see him every day on the beach Grin.

Scuttlebutter · 10/04/2013 18:32

Yes, Cunny, isn't that amazing? Wink

Don't worry, Mr Slant, I'm sure there will be other opportunities for a mini MN meetup. Smile I think we need to give OPERATION VERY TALL WHIPPET some serious planning... Smile

That's so lovely about the grey in rescue - sounds like she has found a wonderful forever home.

TheCunnyFunt · 10/04/2013 19:38

MrS they're talking about moving the tube to his stomach so he can speak, at the moment he can only whisper because the tube is down his throat. It really sucks for him, because he's living with his step mum who owns and lives in a country pub that do fantastic meals and massive ones too. Although he can stay upstairs he can still smell all the delicious smells floating up the stairs.

I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed for your BIL.

Yy to a MN meet up! That would be awesome :)

TheCunnyFunt · 10/04/2013 19:48

Not sure what happened there Confused

MagratGarlik · 11/04/2013 10:34

MrS, have you seen Harvey on the Scruples fb page? He is currently in Stirling, but they can arrange transport to the right home.... Just wondered...

BehindLockNumberNine · 11/04/2013 12:02

Hello all, sorry it has been so long again (RL keeps interfering, gah!)

Mrs S, what happened to your BIL? Sounds awful, whatever it was. Sending a hug and Sam the pretend-whippet sends a tentative lick (but he munched horse poo on our walk this morning so don't get too close Blush)
And what is operation TALL whippet???

Cunny, glad to hear D is on the mend, hopefully he will be happier once the tube is in his stomach. Fingers crossed he will be able to taste food soon!
I am Envy at your trip to Wales!! Have a lovely time x

Betsey, I love love love the look of Pixie. Fingers crossed they get on and have a cosy time in the kennel. Is Billy all healed up now? Did the other dog owner's insurance pay up?

Not much to report here. Sam is still a pretend-dog. Lovely though.
Easter holidays have flown by. Am dreading returning to school on Monday. Not because I don't enjoy it but because I love being at home so much!!

We met two wonderful Podencos on our walk yesterday. And I thought Sam had wonderful ears!! Wow, gorgeous dogs Smile

TheCunnyFunt · 11/04/2013 15:57

Well it's official! My train ticket to Wales is booked! I am sooooo excited! :o

MissBetseyTrotwood · 11/04/2013 19:02

Oh look! Ruby is reserved! I wonder who she'll be kennelled with over the next 10 days and do everything with? And then go home with? Wink Grin Grin Grin

We walked Pixie and she was not suitable for us. Very very strong on the lead, no sense of walking with us iykwim. I could never have walked her with the boys. And at 8 years old, she was totally fit, strong and very, very muscular! Since retiring at 4 she'd been passed around RGT kennels Sad but we couldn't have coped with her. She was sweet with the boys but would doubtless have knocked them over in a second.

So... we went back to the kennel after the walk, explained she was not for us and they brought out Ruby. Who, when I took her little face in my hand and stroked her and she looked into my eyes, was immediately loveable. She was a bit too interested in Billy's nether regions at first, which he did not like and was a bit growly, but they soon settled down on a walk together and jumped into bed together quite happily after a bit of a pad around. She's got that look. A real female Billy, sniffing the boys faces really gently and enjoying the gentle fuss they gave her.

So we'll be taking her on trial at first, to see how we and she cope with it all.

Yaaaayyyyy!

Hurrah for the Welsh trip!

Still no pay out Lock - good to hear Sam's on form.

TheCunnyFunt · 11/04/2013 19:30

Aww yay! How exciting! And how lovely that they'll be able to get to know each other while they're kennelled together :) I'm so pleased for you all!

Angry at the other dog owner though, what a barstool.

MagratGarlik · 11/04/2013 19:53

Yay!!! Another multi-dog household. How exciting.

I hope you have a good time in Wales too, Cunny.

Scuttlebutter · 11/04/2013 22:05

OOOH, Betsey, this is so exciting. Billy will have a special friend. Keeping fingers, toes and paws crossed for a successful getting to know you period in kennels, then a smooth home trial. Keep us posted. Smile

Just think, a week today, we'll also have a special houseguest - coming from strange northern lands. Both the girls were farting tremendously tonight - DH had to open the door to the garden for a bit to get some oxygen in to the room - have warned all grunds that bottoms must be set to stun only while we have special visitors.

Scuttlebutter · 11/04/2013 22:08

This is a glimpse into life chez Butter. DH has just gone downstairs to get a dustpan and brush for our bed. Hmm This is because Andy was having a hole digging session in the garden earlier, while it was raining. Then he came upstairs and did zoomies on the bed - DH is now brushing off the worst of it. Thankfully it was due to be changed tomorrow anyway. Sigh.

TheCunnyFunt · 11/04/2013 22:40

Oooh I'm not used to stinky dog farts! Sprocket farts but they only smell if he needs a poo. Should I bring a peg just in case? :o

That norty Andy! This is where baby gates come in extremely handy. If Sprocket decides to paddle in the mud I can contain him to the kitchen, until his paws are clean.

MrSlant · 11/04/2013 23:07

Betsy how incredibly exciting, you will be so excited to get back from holiday, fantastic that you have rescued another of these lovely hounds, I am sooooo chuffed for you.

Lock, darling, darling lovely bil had a knock to the head playing rugby and has been unconscious for nearly 6 weeks, bloody stupid game, Sad. Minor amongst this is we had to say no to a lovely whippet girl we were going to offer a forever home to, we can't have another dog at the moment as everything is totally upside down, it's hard enough on poor whippety boy as we are travelling every weekend a couple of hundred miles to do hospital visiting. He did get to come with us last time though and totally rocked being a hotel dog. He wore his best Milgi coat and smartest lead and walked through the reception as if he was born to it and didn't turn a hair at being in and out of lifts Grin. We also had a bonus walk with two rather splendid greyhounds belonging to a certain serial grey owner. Operation Very Tall Whippet is to persuade DH that greyhounds are only really tall whippet height after all...

Cunny, it will be great when your brother gets his peg then, I feel for him smelling lovely food all the time and not being able to eat it, I would have to go and live in a tent away from all food if it was me.

I'm dreading Monday too as whippety boy and I both prefer to stay in bed in the morning! We will be a two whippet family as we have our boy's brother coming to stay whilst his human family go on holiday, it will be utter chaos because as siblings they are very bonkers when they get to spend time together.

MagratGarlik · 11/04/2013 23:15

Jessie reeks! No matter what she's eaten, she smells of cabbage. I blame her grund genes. Woody being a refined whippy of course never stinks Grin

MissBetseyTrotwood · 12/04/2013 07:56

Thanks MrS, I love that your whippy is rocking the hotel dog thing. We know a gay couple near us with two whippets who are always immaculate. They have a coat/collar wardrobe and they co ordinate them when they go out! I hardly ever see them wearing the same outfit!

Magrat - the FARTS are the only thing I'm worried about. We are a flatulent family (DH anyway) and as both dogs will sleep in our bedroom... eww.

It's pouring here today.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 12/04/2013 07:59

Scuttle, just saw the crumbs in the bed thing. We get so classy when we own dogs, don't we? I'm trying to persuade DH to take ours to the studio with him just like Trent Reznor does but he's worried because there's a geriatric resident cat couple (Reverb and Bass I think?) they might be a little too interested in!

Y to the baby gates Cunny. We use them a lot when we have visiting children who are scared of Billy.

mistlethrush · 12/04/2013 08:23

Gates (even the higher pets ones) no good here as the dog simply jumps over - although its fine for keeping the dog in the same room as you (ie the kitchen) which wasn't exactly the original idea, but comes in useful sometimes!

DS and I have an early start tomorrow to get to the racing on time - but he's going to have breakfast there (or a 2nd breakfast) and no doubt a burger or something for lunch so is quite happy! I hope the weather is a bit better than it is this morning though.

Farting - was awful to start with but has improved significantly - apart from the evening when she'd eaten the most part of a cheesecake earlier - you could almost see the cloud above her basket then!

She has a squeeker toy that she was given at christmas and it is still around - it has a tiny hole, but she has not attempted to de-stuff it, and indeed is not at all rough with it - just likes throwing it around and pouncing on it. Last night the throwing got a bit carried away - she managed to get a bit of chew up to the ceiling before it fell down behind something (that I then had to move to retreive it).

TheCunnyFunt · 12/04/2013 09:30

mistle how about one of these? :o have a good day racing won't you? Sounds like great fun!

MrS I'm loving the description of Whippety boy at the hotel :o did he have a pair of giant sunglasses that hid his face from the paps? Yy to living in a tent. David said he was tempted to move into the chicken coop!

Betsey the gay couple sound awesome, I bet the Whippets are always impeccably turned out too aren't they? I can't imagine a Whippet being anything other than impeccable though tbh :o
