Just wanted some inspiration really...

Getting a black cocker spaniel pup in two weeks and I think we will call her Beau.

Ours is called Barney because my husband used to call it me before we got married because of my maiden name Confused it does suit him though! Not a very original dogs name either, I know

melliebobs · 27/01/2012 13:12

Our Patterdale Terrier is called Johnson. Few raised eyebrows off some at first. But he is named after Alan Johnson off Peep Show and it suits him down to the ground!

cherry - border terrier
Eric - golden cocker.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 27/01/2012 13:35

Hmm,

Good point about Beau sounding like no

Minnie is on the short list too but we need to see what her personalitys like first I think.

My mum has a Dougie. Aunt has a pip.

My friend has called her black working cocker "Manic". Watching him in a wood full of squirrels, you can see why! Grin

KWL51 · 27/01/2012 13:39

my springer is called chester
cairn terrier is biscuit (named by 3yr old dd, shes almost 6yr old dd now)
and a black lab called jetson

PersonalClown · 27/01/2012 13:40

A tan/white/blue (weird mix!) Staffy called Synyster and a black Doodle called Shadows.

Not that we call him it...he gets called Fluppy at home. Fluffy + puppy = Fluppy.

Moodykat · 27/01/2012 13:43

Black labs - Snipe and Jasper
Spaniels - Teal and Peter (DS1's choice)
Terriers - Minnie and Piglet.

retrozebra · 27/01/2012 13:47

Two greyhounds called Bill and Maisie. Uber original naming there - but it's what they were called when we got them. They also have nicknames, Badger and Mouse, because of their colouring.

Have had a blue roan cocker called Ralph. Very satisfying name for calling in the park as it sounds like you're barking if you do it right! Tedious though the number of times he got called Rolf, as if we'd named him in homage to Rolf Harris Confused

LtEveDallas · 27/01/2012 13:50

All Cocker Spaniels should be called Jarvis - Fact!

We have a mutt (Coliie/Springer/Pointer/umm something else, possibly whippet) called Gwen. I want a collie called Flower...

I know a:
Ronnie - Rottweiller
Roxy - Rottweiller
Barney - Cocker
Bayley - Cocker
Maxi - Springer
Finn - Springer
Barney - Springer
Molly - Lab
Millie - Cocker
Smudge - Cocker

Someone told me once that dogs should have 'ee' sounds at the end of their names for easier recall - don't know if it's true, but certainly seems that way with the dogs in our pack.

ChickensGoMeh · 27/01/2012 14:16

I have a Jasper (springer/cocker cross).
I know a Faith (staffy), Willow (staffyxlab), Pip (Jack Russell), Tessa (greyhound), TJ (English Bull Terrier), Ralph (cocker/springer cross), Ozzie (Labradoodle), Orson (staffy), Zeus (GS), Cabbage (Cav), Chops (mutt) Grin

fruitshootsandheavesupafurball · 27/01/2012 14:19

I have an Springer called Ozzy but he is mostly called by his nickname 'Bod'
and a Collie called Isla

I used to have a Springer called Zebedee and it was the most appropriate name ever as he was always bouncing up and down.

D0oinMeCleanin · 27/01/2012 14:23

I have:

Tiny whipetty type cat dog thing (she is lovely really but cannot really be classed as a dog, her behavior indicates she is anything but) - Poppy

Terrier x - Scruff
Greyhound: Fleur

My family has
Lurchers : The Duke and Biscuit

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 27/01/2012 14:25

I have a black lab called Digby.
Parents' springer is Harry.

LittleWhiteWolf · 27/01/2012 14:28

hennipenni · 27/01/2012 14:42

I don't have a dog at the moment but may have one sometime later in the year, we (I) have shortlisted Bertie or Bella. we hope to have either a cocker or springer.

twange · 27/01/2012 15:35

Elibean · 27/01/2012 16:32

Mouse (terrified of everything when we got him, big floppy ears, brown Grin)

Last dog was called Dingo (looked like one)

Elibean · 27/01/2012 16:32

I know several adorable Bellas, half of them cockers - v popular name, and v popular dog, where I live!

Elibean · 27/01/2012 16:34

Mouse's best friends are called:

Bella
Merley
Wellie
Berolo
Phillip

I like names that suit the individual dog!

kellykateneedsaholiday · 27/01/2012 16:39

We've got a black cocker called Sommer.
Only realised once we had got her how many other people have got cockers too. Going to get another one next year cos they are lovely dogs. So much better behaved than the children are.

monicker2 · 27/01/2012 18:26
