20 best and worst places to live

Should have guessed really, DH is from Lancs. At our wedding the buttonholes were all white - except his which obviously had to be red.

Just to say I am Edinburgh born and bred and I certainly sound and feel Scottish. As do most of my friends and family.

Although there are plenty of lovely English/Welsh/Irish/Australian people who live here too!

On the subject of the programme I agree that it is ridculous to dismiss WHOLE cities but lets face it, who cares what they think!?

I've only just heard about this. I wish I'd seen the programme. I've lived in Ashford for 22 years and I'd love to know where all these open spaces are! We are surrounded by fields but they all belong to someone- they aren't public. I know of one park of a reasonable size, and that isn't a patch on the main parks in say Bath or Bristol or Maidstone. We have grammar schools that the local comprehensive governor is always trying to get closed & keeps writing to the paper that our results aren't very good compared with other LEAs.. Also don't know where you'd get a 3 bed detached for 180K, unless it was ex council. The new estate over the road starts at 206k for a little tiny terrace.

There are not enough school places for the hundreds of people "downsizing" here; the water supply can't cope so we get hosepipe bans and massive bills; not enough GPs or dentists. Just acres and acres of new houses on massive estates & nothing else.

I take it they didn't mention the fact that a train to London from here costs 36 quid a day and you stand all the way; the only motorway we have is permanently clogged with lorries to and from the Chunnel & you have to use the M25 carpark to get anywhere in the country. They always rave about our "excellent transport links" but you'd be hard-pressed to find them.

I just hope this stupid programme doesn't result in even more hordes of people flocking to live here (We're out of here just as soon as the ds's finish school..)

As has been mentioned, if Scotland is so bad why are there so many English up here? And not just Edinburgh as the West Coast and really anywhere locals can't afford to live anymore is very English now!

Pop into a B&B and chances are the owners will be English!

I certainly wouldn't choose to live in any of their top 10.
