Did anyone see this - I only saw the last few places and I want to know what the others were! Can't even see anything listing them on the C4 website.

OP posts:

Bristles at bad mouthing of Doncaster....
And Hull
And Middlesbrough.
Lived in all of them, loved all of them.

northerner · 10/08/2005 13:16

gingerbear - what did you love about Middlesbrough? Seriously, I'm intrigued.

Lizzylou · 10/08/2005 13:17

Sorry ginge - but I really didn't like Doncaster...Might have been because I was living in a crappy rented house at the time. It did seem a bit grey and depressing - do you really disagree with that?

Raspberry · 10/08/2005 13:20

gbear - that's my main serious point though, I know 'Ull, Donny and Borough all fairly well and would live in parts of all of them.
You just can't say any place of 100,000+ population is bad, its rot!

Janh · 10/08/2005 13:22

The next place along that road is Padiham - which is not gorgeous - am confused! (Can you tell?) Please find out and tell me!

gingerbear · 10/08/2005 13:22

The people, ICI Wilton all lit up at night (it was a long time ago), Albert Park -Rea's icecream parlour, Captain Cook Museum, Transporter Bridge, Barker and Stonehouse cafe.

northerner · 10/08/2005 13:22

Aha - It's Boro - not Borough.

'We are Teesside, we're the future we're the pride'

My primary school anthem.

Lizzylou · 10/08/2005 13:24

JanH, have just called my husband and asked him to find out! It is near to Sabden, but not there!
I think Padiham is nice...but have heard bad reviews!

Janh · 10/08/2005 13:24

Thought it was Brough?

Janh · 10/08/2005 13:24

Sabden isn't near anywhere!!! (Okie country...)

Raspberry · 10/08/2005 13:24

sorry

(its not what they call it in Whitby though! )

northerner · 10/08/2005 13:25

The bloomin flare stack at ICI Wilton kept me awake all night - it made my whole bedroom orange.

handlemecarefully · 10/08/2005 13:25

Ah, I don't think I got to know the best parts of Donny then

Janh · 10/08/2005 13:25

Fence?

northerner · 10/08/2005 13:26

Yes it is Middlesbrough. But when folk shorten it, it becomes Boro, as opposed to Borough.

gingerbear · 10/08/2005 13:27

How long ago did you live in Donny HMC? It was awful up to about 5 years ago, but is undergoing a huge transformation - city centre regeneration and a new college, and there are lovely outlying places (still classed as Doncaster - Tickhill, Sprotborough, High melton, Barnby Dun)

oliveoil · 10/08/2005 13:27

You can't nitpick the programme, it would still be running now if they said "Hull is crap apart from this bit, oooh and this road, and this is ok, but look at this dump etc etc" It has to generalise at some point.

Janh · 10/08/2005 13:28

list of pubs/hotels in Pendle.

Oh - was it Barley?

gingerbear · 10/08/2005 13:28

HMC - those places were in Boro!

SaintGeorge · 10/08/2005 13:29

ROFL at 'Ull Raspberry. Only east of the river, we westies can pronounce our aitches.

(always wondered why aitch doesn't start with an H - did someone in 'Ull put that one in the dictionary? )

Lizzylou · 10/08/2005 13:31

Not Fence no........!!!

Have been looking on a map and can't find anything that looks right! They got married in Read then we drove to the hotel in this lovely village...........
