Anyone missing Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

This is my favourite TV series ever! I have the box sets and last summer watched them all again and it was fab. And although I'm watching the Vampyre Diaries and really enjoying them - though it is just Dawson's Creek with fangs - it is just not the same as Buffy.
And for any BTVS fans what is your favourite episode.
Mine is a tie between Passions - I loved Angel when he went bad and the singing one - can't remember the episode title.

I love those two last posts/ scenes

I think I fell in love with Spike on that crossover episode Fool for love, the chaos demon PMSL and William the bloody because of his bloody awful poetry

wintera · 21/04/2010 12:53

Season 4 may not have worked as a season entire - but it has fabulous stand alone episodes I think. Like Hush and New Man where Giles gets turned into a demon. I love that episode. Love the bit where he chases after the annoying Teacher Maggie Walsh.

wintera · 21/04/2010 12:57

Also love Living Conditions, where she shares a room with that demon girl who keeps playing Do you Believe by Cher over and over!

JimJammum · 21/04/2010 21:22

How could I forget Spike and the Buffybot? Loved the episode when he gets her and then gets tortured by Glory before Buffy pretends to be the bot and kisses him. SMG acted the bot brilliantly, and I loved that it was mostly sarcastic and ended with a tinge of sweetness.

CalmCalmCalm · 22/04/2010 20:18

What about the Mayor? I loved him, the whole people-eating demon with a hygiene and manners obsession. For me, that series was the pinnacle of Buffy-ness before Dawn somewhat ruined the Scooby gang.

I also quite loved "Beer Bad", and wheelchair-bound Spike.

But more than anything, the crowning moment will always be the heartbreak of Buffy having to kill Angel to seal the Hellmouth

SingleMum01 · 22/04/2010 20:40

Angel - he was gorgeous

wintera · 23/04/2010 10:30

The Mayor was a high point. Season 3 was Buffy at its absolute best. And you are quite right about the finale of Season 2 - Heartbreaking. Sarah Michelle gellar cries very well I think!

SleepingLion · 23/04/2010 18:30

Ooh, the finale of Season 2 is just fantastic. Love that Sarah MacLachlan song 'Full of Grace'. And I love the very end of The Gift too where they all go towards her body and Spike is crying

Have just started re-watching Angel from the very beginning!

SleepingLion · 23/04/2010 18:34

Obviously I also like The Gift because of...

Giles: 'We few, we happy few...'
Spike: 'We band of buggered...'

Loved all the English swearwords Joss could get away with because the American producers didn't know them!

azazello · 23/04/2010 19:00

I love love Buffy. I have the DVDs and DH and I generally watch our way through every couple of years. DS not sleeping has rather scuppered the plan for this year .

DD (nearly 3) has watched some of once more with feeling but am considering to sit her down and get her watching the whole of series 2 before she starts going out with boys. Do you think it would traumatise her for life if she starts out with the thought that if she sleeps with someone they might turn evil and start killing her teachers?

Series 2 and 3 are my definite favourites but also love the end of series 7 when Spike is just so wonderful... Not quite so keen on Angel. I like Serenity the film but again not such a fan of Firefly (also uncomfortable about the prostitute). I adore Anthony Head and met him once. He said DD is beautiful [preens].

wintera · 23/04/2010 20:18

Has anyone ever been to a convention? They have a reputation for being geeky but I always think they look like lots of fun though. I quite fancy going to one with Buffy stars there. James Marsters does them sometimes, so does Nicholas Brendan and Anthony Head. And Joss has done a few I think. Andy Hallett, God rest his soul, used to do them a lot too.

LetThereBeRock · 23/04/2010 21:27

I always wanted to meet Andy. A friend did and said he couldn't have been nicer.

I'll never get the chance now.

juneybean · 24/04/2010 10:23

wintera I've been to sci-fi conventions which had Buffy cast there, but it was 6 years ago lol. The two I went to, Amber Benson (Tara) was at one and Brian Thompson was at another (Luke/the Judge)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/04/2010 10:27

Because of this thread I dug out my boxset and watched the episode "Hush"
I'd forgotten about the part where Giles is giving them the silent lecture on who the gentleman are and Xander asks how they kill them, the miming Buffy does had me in stitches.
True classic they never get old!

juneybean · 24/04/2010 10:36

Hahaha that whole episode is just great.

I need to continute working my way through but I think The Body is next, just not sure if I can cope!!

CalmCalmCalm · 25/04/2010 16:02

SMG does cry well, doesn't she wintera? I remember thinking that hers was about the most convincing crying I'd seen on TV in a long time.

I, too, would LOVE to go to a convention (particularly as I'm obsessed by interested in quite a few geek sci-fi/fantasy shows. Maybe one day I'll work up the courage!

I think I need a little Buffy-fest. Pity my DDs are not quite old enough for me to share it with them.

aSilverLining · 25/04/2010 16:21

I started watching my lovely new boxset yesterday.

I had totally forgotten about the very first episode's opening scene where Darla and a teenage boy are sneaking into the high school and she is acting all coy and afraid then turns her face 'bumpy' and kills him. Sets the tone to not expect the usual gender stereotypes and definately sticks by that promise.

If I had a daughter I would definately be encouraging her to watch it. I will definately be using it as a social learning tool for DS when he is older too to talk about friendships, relationships, peer scenarios, feelings, etc. He has High FUnctioning Autism so needs stuff like this spelling out to him much more and the visual aspect of it will hold his attention much more than a long winded schpiel from me.

Snooks14 · 25/04/2010 22:23

Intersting to see you say that aSilverLining about "not the expect the usual gender stereotypes" as Joss Wheddon in the extras on the DVDs talks about the blonde little girl reclaiming the night. And talking about favourite lines what about Xander with his "faster pussycat kill, kill"

OP posts:
LtEveDallas · 26/04/2010 06:52

Watched "criminal minds" last night. Lovely xander was there, except geeky scruffy and chubby I miss buffy so much (I get my angel fix from bones, so not too bad there, but seeing NB looking so bad last night was a shame)

I have Amber benson on my Twitter and for a short while was emailing back and forth. She is directing indie films now.

If it's the end of the world, beep me!

aSilverLining · 26/04/2010 09:20

I have not watched the extras yet, decided to watch series one then watch the extras hope they are good as my old boxsets where VHS with no extras so curious what's on there, am kind of saving it as an extra surprise IYKWM.

I like Xander's line "I laugh in the face of danger, then I hide until it goes away".

wintera · 26/04/2010 10:33

Let's do our favourite quotes! Here is one -

"It's horrible. That's me as a vampire? I'm so evil, and skanky. And I think I'm kind of gay"

Willow, Season Three, Doppelgangland

juneybean · 26/04/2010 15:32

"Time, Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats"

Loan Shark, Season Six, Tabula Rasa

Makes me laaarf!

annaje · 26/04/2010 16:41

I lurve buffy - seasons 2 and 3 were the best. Loved the tragic angel love story

wintera · 26/04/2010 20:10

Another favourite -

'For a thousand years I wielded the powers of The Wish. I brought ruin to the heads of unfaithful men. I brought forth destruction and chaos for the pleasure of the lower beings. I was feared and worshipped across the mortal globe. And now I'm stuck at Sunnydale High. Mortal. Child. And I'm flunking math.'

Anya Season 3 Döppelgangland (As you can see, I really like that episode!)
