Anyone missing Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

This is my favourite TV series ever! I have the box sets and last summer watched them all again and it was fab. And although I'm watching the Vampyre Diaries and really enjoying them - though it is just Dawson's Creek with fangs - it is just not the same as Buffy.
And for any BTVS fans what is your favourite episode.
Mine is a tie between Passions - I loved Angel when he went bad and the singing one - can't remember the episode title.

Brilliant!! (the Angel dancing scene!)

LetThereBeRock · 19/04/2010 22:33

'I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say, if all you're gonna do is switch back to brood mode, we'd rather have you evil. Then, at least, leather pants.'

SleepingLion · 19/04/2010 22:46

This is one of the most moving bits in the whole series:

But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I knew her, and then she's? there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead... anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And... and Xander's crying and not talking, and... and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn, or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why!

Emma Caulfield is a fantastic actress.

And the episode where Oz and Willow break up for good - Oz was one of my all time favourite characters...

Willow: I missed you, Oz. I wrote you so many letters... But I didn't have any place to send them, you know. I couldn't live like that.
Oz: It was stupid to think that you'd just be... waiting.
Willow: I was waiting. I feel like some part of me will always be waiting for you. Like if I'm old and blue-haired and I turn the corner in Istanbul, and there you are. I won't be surprised... Because you're with me, you know?
Oz: I know. But now is not that time I guess.

MrsKitty · 19/04/2010 22:49

You lot are making me spend money! - I've just done the same as asilverlining and gone off to Amazon to upgrade to a DVD boxset (we've got them all on VHS but they take up so much room... I think of it as a de-cluttering purchase

MrsKitty · 19/04/2010 22:52

All these quotes are making me remember just how fabulous it was.

That's it - once Lost is over and I've caught up on Heroes we're watching Buffy again!

juneybean · 19/04/2010 23:02

Ahh don't sleeplion that made me cry when I first saw it, poor Anya!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/04/2010 07:15

When I bought the DVD boxset several years ago I watched them all in order...

Think its time to do that again.
I still have 2 months of maternity leave left. It's doable!

BouncingTurtle · 20/04/2010 07:52

Yes another Buffy fan here too!

Angel did start of crap but got better, especially the episodes with Spike.

There was the hilarious scene where Angel has just saved someone and Spike is spying from the rooftop and just taking the piss lol.

Oh and the Buffybot, SMG must have had so much fun playing her.
"Angel's lame. His hair grows straight up, and he's bloody stupid."

From the same episode.
Willow Rosenberg: This shouldn't be about blame.
Buffy: Blame? There's blame now?
Willow Rosenberg: No, there's only love. And some fear.
Anya: We're just kind of thrown by the you-having-sex-with-Spike.
Buffy: The who-whatting-how-with-huh?
Anya: Okay, that's denial. That usually comes before anger.
Buffy: I am not having sex with Spike!
Anya: Anger.

Hush was an amazing episode, a bright light in a season of utter shite, Season 4 was the worst.
Loved "Once more with feeling", downloaded all the music and know all the words

Josh Whedon is rather God like. Oh, if you like Buffy see Firefly, has Nathan Fillion (Caleb from season 7) as the rugged captain of a trading ship.. and he wears very tight pants.. and is naked in one episode

fartmeistergeneral · 20/04/2010 08:12

We have Fierefly on dvd, dh likes it. I'm not sure that I do or absolutely hate it. Didn't like the characters much. Mal was OK, didn't like his first mate woman, loathed the prostitute and was so annoyed that she was seen as this gorgeous being enlightening the lives of men all over the 'verse', when actually she was just shagging for money. Actually, no I didn't like it much. Serenity the film wasn't much cop, and I felt Joss was trying too hard to make it witty, whereas the wit in Buffy was wonderfully natural.

sfxmum · 20/04/2010 12:48

I thought Firefly was often very funny and I loved the pilot, but they did not have time to develop, unfortunately these days they cut the series before it gets going

and Season 4 I used to think was the weakest but then I looked back and it has some wonderful episodes and nowhere near as clanky as season6 when the writers did not seem to agree on what they were doing with the characters

on the other hand it has my most detested character Riley

LetThereBeRock · 20/04/2010 13:00

I hate Riley too.I try to skip his scenes as much as possible.

fartmeistergeneral · 20/04/2010 13:10

My most hated was Kennedy and Tara (Willow's g/friends!) - just very annoying people.

LetThereBeRock · 20/04/2010 13:40

I wasn't all fond of Oz either.

LtEveDallas · 20/04/2010 14:20

Ohhh, Spike's monologue in "Touched" (season 7) when all the potentials and Faith, Willow etc have gone against Buffy and she is hiding out in an old house. Makes me cry every time (have just googled it so I dont get it wrong, but I was almost word perfect

"I've been alive a bit longer than you, and dead a lot longer than that. I've seen things you couldn't imagine, and done things I'd prefer you didn't. I don't exactly have a reputation for being a thinker; I follow my blood, which doesn't exactly rush in the direction of my brain. So I make a lot of mistakes. A lot of wrong bloody calls. A hundred plus years, and there's only one thing I've ever been sure of. You. Hey, look at me. I'm not asking you for anything. When I say I love you, it's not because I want you, or because I can't have you - it has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try... I've seen your kindness, and your strength, I've seen the best and the worst of you and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy."

ohhh

and for a little light relief

(Buffy to Giles) "You slept with my mother?........TWICE!!!"

fartmeistergeneral · 20/04/2010 15:17

Fab Spike speech!

CaveMum · 20/04/2010 21:36

Ladies, I'm so glad to have found you!

I've been crying with laughter re-Reading the great Buffy quotes you've been putting up. Thank you!

There are so many quotes I could call on, but my personal favourite is most definitely Faith (in Buffy's body) to Spike (I had to look it up as I couldn't remember it in full):

"Cause I can do anything I want, and instead I choose to pout and whine and feel the burden of slayerness? I mean I could be rich, I could be famous. I could have anything, anyone. Even you Spike. I could ride you at a gallop till your legs buckled and your eyes rolled up. I've got muscles you've never even dreamed of. I could squeeze you till you pop like warm champagne and you begged me to hurt you just a little bit more. And you know why I don't? Because it's wrong."

Love that one! I only wish I could have used it on someone!

Have to agree that Hush and The Body are my favourite episodes and early Spike (season 2 & briefly in season 3) was the best! I just can't believe James Marsters is so old in real life!

I'm 44 and I still sometimes think "what would Buffy do?"

I love the episode where Spike has been chipped and he is with Willow when she and Buffy are at Uni. He can't bite her and she consoles him as one would if a chap couldn't, er, perform.

I haven't watched Buffy for over three years. I'm going to get that box set out again!
