I will brush lynette.

AliBean · 13/04/2010 21:51

What is the portion control advice for children from weaning age?

I am BLW so my DS eats what he feels like and fills up on BF's as required. I haven't looked into portions for babies and just picked up on the fist sized portions for older children from this thread.

So how accessible is the info about portions? Because it certainly hasn't been offered by HV or nurses at baby weigh-in clinic...

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 21:51

Are anyone else's DC watching?

It's doing the world of good. Suspect I might have less of a row over teeth-cleaning tonight.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/04/2010 21:52

ALL of these parets seem to be shrugging in a "what can you do?" way. Sad that they seem to think saying no to a child is so unthinkable. And as for the mum who knows her son is drinking...just

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 21:52

I used to drink cider at 14

I was at private school

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:52

He spends £10 a week on vodka?

Do most 13 yo get £10 a week?

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:53

Macaulay is a wee charmer.

deaddei · 13/04/2010 21:53

I thought Paul's mother was his grandmother....
It's not often I shout things at the tv, but I have done tonight.
What's the answer? More education? But how do you get it across to people like this? A bit like information evenings at school- the people who need to attend don't.
I'll be showing this to dcs tomorrow.

WhasThisAllAbout · 13/04/2010 21:53

Oh dear! This programme is seriously depressing! Those poor kids!

And this Eejit whose kids drinks vodka- is this a late April Fools? What about social service????? Seriousy- 'Oh son, wait and I'll help you fix your bike so you can go buy vodka!"

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:54

"I can't control him 24 hours a day"

I can't goo to bed without brushing my teeth. If I eat or drink anything else apart from water afterwards I get up and brush again...thanks Mum!!

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:54

And last time I looked, they didn't allow vodka in school.

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 21:56

Seriously - what age did all you angels first have a drink? I would not say 13 is unusual??

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:56

I just smirked at "what he dos out the house..." I am the target market, I am judgey mcjudgey pants, wig askew.

lifeissweet · 13/04/2010 21:56

You know - these parents are so scared that their children will not love them if they say no to them. When these kids are in a state, alcoholic and on the streets, they will blame their parents for not stopping them. That's really, really sad.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/04/2010 21:56

Yeah- it was the "I can't control what he does behind my back" Don't LET him behind your back, he is 13. She might have a chance of keeping him in at 13, but by the time he is 16, she (and her neighbourhood) are going to have a tough time dealing with him at all

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 13/04/2010 21:56

Ali, at weaning age (now 6 months plus), a small ice cube would be one portion. The aim of weaning at this age isn't to fill them up with food, it's just to introduce a new texture. The general rule is that a portion is the size of the palm of their hand, a 6 month old's palm is roughly the size of an ice cube. Carbs are a little bit more, roughly the size of their fist. the same applies with adults. It's really confusing IMO, there is guidance online but it's a portion of grapes is 10 grapes (ish), a portion of mango is 4g etc so it's not easy to follow.

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:56

I think they are being a bit harsh on the 13 yo drinking alcohol...it could have been poisonous substance.....

wonka · 13/04/2010 21:56

I was 15.. and NOT vodka

mamazon · 13/04/2010 21:57

ladyblahblah - i think there is a vast difference between pinching a quick swig of your dad's beer to beng given money so you can buy your own vodka!

it's wrong. its not judgmental, its common sense.

AitchTwoZone · 13/04/2010 21:57

this programme has a horribly snoooooty air about it. it's making a real fool of the parents, who are morons and therefore easy targets.
