No not naive. Sensible. But stopping the habits starting is easier than stopping them once they've started.

I blame me otherwise wonderful CM for the bad habits mine have (not seriously bad thank god).

StrawberriesAndCherries · 13/04/2010 21:45

"couldnt get his bokkle off him"

just about says it all ....

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:45

lynette did you use your armchair gavel?

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 21:45

What is the point of this programme other than to induce smugness and pointy finger actions?

Nothing is being done to help/stop these people.

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:45

LifeIsSweet, thank kyou, I feel so much better.

lifeissweet · 13/04/2010 21:46

Jooly - I think that's actually the problem with Leon's mother. She's had just enough information, but it's incomplete. She knows what healthy food to give him. She knows he needs fruit and veg and fibre, but has absolutely no idea about appropriate portions. The health messages we receive are largely: Junk food bad, fruit and veg good, but it is far more complicated than that.

mamazon · 13/04/2010 21:46

Im fairly sure its a lack of good dental hygiene as well as the sugar though.

these poor children.

I hope some of those parents come on here so i can tell them what useless parents they are.

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 21:46

This pinot grigio is very very grapey. I'd better have some more.

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 21:47

Is that woman saying 'bockle'?

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:47

That is so so sad. Poor little thing, those teeth look horrific!

I am full of guilt now. I forgot to brush my DS teeth tonight.

StrawberriesAndCherries · 13/04/2010 21:47

Yes orm she is

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 13/04/2010 21:48

I'm munching on dried coconut (on account that I have no wine)!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/04/2010 21:48

It's not inducing smugness in me- it's inducing horror.

I think the point they are trying to make is that the NHS is trying to help, but a lot of the parents are ignoring the advice. It explains to people (like me) who get sniffy about the way the Gvmt Health Campaigns seem to patronise people that actually they may be needed after all

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:49

here we go the money shot, the just teen swilling voddy

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:49

Belle, I've read you can survive purely on cocoa nuts of varying degrees of ripeness.

Not sure how good for your teeth it is, though.

Wonderstuff · 13/04/2010 21:49

Totally agree it is down to lack of education, parents just don't get what is healthy, what will rot teeth, suitable portion size - but how on earth do we educate? You are clearly really very stupid if you think 4 or 5 lollipops and a bottle at night isn't going to rot your childs teeth, or you don't think portion size is at all important or has any bearing on weight. Very special kind of stupid which makes you think that smoking isn't at all bad its just those picky doctors have taken and irrational stance against it. I had to stop watching.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/04/2010 21:49

lifeissweet- I think you are right re Leon's mum- she thinks because she is giving him "healthy" stuff the portion sizes don't matter

mamazon · 13/04/2010 21:49

omg! this woman needs a bloody slap.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 13/04/2010 21:50

I wouldn't want to be in that mother's shoes.

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 21:50

"His mother puts his behaviour down to his drinking..."

No! Really?

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 21:50

lol @ the money shot!

Meglet · 13/04/2010 21:50

Mine scream blue murder when they have their teeth brushed but I still do it. And after that it's only water.

I have to say though that I do give dd (6) more sugary things than I'd like She, like me is a sugarholic. she gets gum/lolipop on the drive to and back from school (she gets car sick) everyday. At weekends/holidays she gets treats like ice cream, I bake cakes and we sit and scoff them together. She has been getting a kit kat in her lunch pack at activity camp the past couple of weeks as well as money to buy stuff, which she of course uses to buy more chocolate.

She otherwise eats v. healthy diet and is extremely active typically at least 1 hour of sport a day during term time and in excess of 4 hours during the holidays.

Alfie's rotten teeth have given me a new sense of purpose to get rid.

totallydifferenttypeofperson · 13/04/2010 21:51

Macaulay's mum seemed to be enjoying that.

LadyBlaBlah · 13/04/2010 21:51

Anyone else noticed a lot of the drs and nurses are clearly obese ??
