OP posts:

Leon is eating what my VERY active 11 year old eats.

My DH (office job) doesn't eat that much.

My 4yo DD would eat half that much.

I'm interested in knowing if these obese children were bottle or breast fed.

deaddei · 13/04/2010 21:28

leon's mum will not listen to being told the bleeding obvious- you overfeed your morbidly obese son and push him in a wheelchair.
Sorry, she is really making me angry- I can hardly bring myself to look at her poor son.
Should put "killed by stupidity" on his gravestone.

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 21:28

Grrrrrrrrrr!

rrrr..

rrr..

Puts my DCs weight 'problems' into fucking perspective.

And the dad with the 'smoking never does any harm' bollocks.

Grrrrr.....

Clary · 13/04/2010 21:28

This is really upsetting isn't it.

I actually cried when the single dad said he'd give up smoking as he hadn't realised ho wmuch smoking outside was still affecting his DS's hearing.

Yeah happy to judge the other smoking dad stupid man.

for all the kids esp the really overweight boy. His mum is just giving him sooo much food. And she is in such denial! How can he walk home after a whole day at school???

wonka · 13/04/2010 21:28

We need a wiggy smiley! LOL
I'm off to the playroom to find the woden mallet

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:29

wigs on!

snice I mean she is trying to do the right thing but lacks for education.

compare her to leons dad who is in total denial and no amount of "education" will make him stop smoking as he feels it is his right. Horrid

totallydifferenttypeofperson · 13/04/2010 21:29

I do hope they are investigating his diet formally. Surely there's been a dietician involved.

Also really struggling with the tone of some of this, though.

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 21:30

My children are watching this and there are three little faces like this

'Poor little boy! It's not his fault' from DS1. Tragic.

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:30

4 and 5 lolly pops per day????

Is his mother an idiot?

thatsnotmymonkey · 13/04/2010 21:31

oooh yeah, gavel at the ready ladies!

I hereby judge lollipops to be outlawed! (smacks gavel on sofa arm)

StrawberriesAndCherries · 13/04/2010 21:31

She feels guilty - what does she flipping well expect????? Not brain surgery is it? Lots of sugar + not brushing them = bad teeth

flintski · 13/04/2010 21:32

poor little boy - 9 milk teeth out

snice · 13/04/2010 21:32

Leon's mother needs a nutritionist to work out how many calories a day she's feeding him as it seems as though she doesn't count anything she perceives as healthy. I reckon he had getting on for most of his full days allowance in the couple of hours they filmed

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 13/04/2010 21:32

I bet she won't be making the same mistake Lynette.

I don't think the parents that need to watch this programme actually are watching.

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:32

I have a personal hate of lollipops.

But he's also had a bottle to go to sleep with, which I can see how could happen.

AliBean · 13/04/2010 21:32

"I feel like it's my fault..."
um it is. Utterly your fault.

Wow.

Leon's mother needs help!!!! What she is doing to him is cruel and social services should be involved.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/04/2010 21:33

But it's the way the parents say "he has 4 or 5 lollipops a day" as if, at aged 3, they have no control over that. Leon's mum was the same with the cake- she didn't want him to be "left out", which I can understand, but he was at home, noone else was actually eating cake. He wouldn't have been left out, even if she had kept it for after dinner.

It's down to a real lack of education. Families live like this, when their children have children they don't know any better. There just isn't enough health visitors to go around, they don't have the time to teach parents about healthy eating.

hogshead · 13/04/2010 21:35

mind you it is hard to change behaviours once they've set in

LynetteScavo · 13/04/2010 21:36

I think Leon should join my family for a week,no need for a personal trainer.

We had DN stay for a week when she was 10 ish, and we nearly killed her with our activities (my eldest was 6 at the time)..seh bailed out after three days and went to stay with her g'ma.

She's now 16 and obese.

AliBean · 13/04/2010 21:36

My DS is 7 months...I don't know how hard it would be to wean a 6 year old off sugary stuff...how hard? Really?
Really traumatic for all involved or just a bit difficult for a few days?
