I don't know

fuzzypicklehead · 01/02/2011 22:24

Actually, perhaps we should send someone to check up on her (Dittany). She may have been rendered immobile and frothing with violent rage-induced seizures as a result of the programme.

MilaMae · 01/02/2011 22:25

I'd also like to know how those young boys insure that huge expensive 4X4 truck thing. I have so many friends that stuggle to pay for insurance for teenage boys on a Corsa let alone a car like that.

All those dresses too,it's not just the wedding dress it's a huge entourage of bridesmaid dresses. The cost must be out of this world. That cake!!!!!!

Dp is soooo in the wrong job.

OhForBoonessSake · 01/02/2011 22:26

i think, for her own sanity, dittanu might have gotten rid of her tv for the night! Grin

OhForBoonessSake · 01/02/2011 22:26

dittany Hmm

OhForBoonessSake · 01/02/2011 22:27

mila, do you honestly think they were insured for that thing? don't you wonder why they had to get away from that accident so very quickly before the police truned up?

Normantebbit · 01/02/2011 22:28

Hmmm Mila you may have put your finger on why they were so desperate to get away from that accident - they know the police would have stopped them.

MilaMae · 01/02/2011 22:28

Hmmmm you took the words right out of dp's mouth Wink

EricNorthmansMistress · 01/02/2011 22:29

There is nothing moral about these young women remaining virgins until marriage. 1- the young men don't have to 2- they marry at 16 so they don't really have a chance to know themselves and make a proper decision, I was certainly not thinking of having sex and 16 and nor do a lot of 16yos, so there's no actual restraint involved, presuming you accept sexual restraint to be a moral quality and 3- the virginity of the young women is prized as a mark of ownership by her father to be taken by her husband. Feck all to do with morality.

Normantebbit · 01/02/2011 22:30

But it amazing how much cash you can make from scrap metal and Tarmac Smile

HouseOfBamboo · 01/02/2011 22:32

It was just chilling the way those boys reacted when asked whether they saw women as being equal to them.

HouseOfBamboo · 01/02/2011 22:33

As in 'er yeah, of course', then fell about laughing.

i think someone said upthread kerry that they have separate caravans for the kids and parents.

MilaMae · 01/02/2011 22:37

So in the name of "culture" all of this abuse is allowed to continue????

Aside from the sexual violence and repression I'm appalled that hauling 11/13 year olds out of school and forcing them into slave labour where they burn their fingers on bleach and endure forced illiteracy is allowed to continue.

No social service involvement what so ever. If I hauled my dd out of school and forced her into slavery she'd be put into care before you could say Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

There is something seriously wrong with this country if it's deemed ok to just ignore such abuse all in the name of "culture".

notjustapotforsoup · 01/02/2011 22:39

I wonder if the police have ANPR equipped cars on the A66 around Appleby Fair time.

Bridget's Mum looked exhausted. Bet she got in a lot of debt to pay for that wedding Sad, given that there was no father about to pay with his undeclared earnings.

Not sure that it's a laughing matter if Dittany is upset about this. Is there anyone here who isn't?

slartybartfast · 01/02/2011 22:39

i wonder what would happen if you were a gay gypsy?

is it a taboo?

anyone?

Cain · 01/02/2011 22:43

To be fair I think social services do get involved where they can but when a family move about (or say they do) its not possible to follow up.

MilaMae · 01/02/2011 22:44

That little girl crying at her sister's wedding knowing her life of shite had officially startedSad.

MilaMae · 01/02/2011 22:47

I thought things had been put into place after the Fred west murders and his daughters fell of the radar. Whatever happened to "every child matters"??

CaveMum · 01/02/2011 22:50

Yes I know I said I was off to bed, but I'm back again!

I think the traveller families move around a lot less these days, as evidenced by the number of chalets on the sites. As Thelma said, they (I presume) simply tell the school/social services that the girls (again I presume it is mostly girls, though the boys don't seem that educated) have gone to live with a relative or gone back to Ireland. If the girls are at home cleaning all day there is no chance of them being picked up by the truancy police.

OhForBoonessSake · 01/02/2011 22:50

i really dont know enough about SS and i understand that funding is pretty non existant but surely tehre is a way of them following up when parenst say a child has gone to live in ireland or elsewhere. surely SS or teh education board can communicate with the borad of wherever the chidl is supposed to have gone?
