It's the only one she can do.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 31/01/2010 21:25

i did like mo mowlam, tbh. not that i knew that much about her, tbh, other than she seemed lovely and warm.

MmeLindt · 31/01/2010 21:27

oooh, bitchy

Sparkler · 31/01/2010 21:29

I'm watching and really enjoying it. I love Julie Walters. Am recording it though as I don't think I'm going to stay awake until the end. Early start tomorrow.

Katymac · 31/01/2010 21:30

I didn't think I should watch it...I expected to be crying by the end

I have great respect for her

Always had a great respect for Mo Mowlem.

Think there'll be tears before bed.

Hulababy · 31/01/2010 22:02

Saw JW talking about this the other day. She said the voice thing was difficult as MM had such a unique recognisible voice. So they went for the other charactristics rather than attempt a dodgy effort of the speaking voice.

policywonk · 31/01/2010 22:05

Gawd, I don't think it's much cop. The dialogue is Exposition Central.

Had weird experience at the beginning - the consultant at Charing X, Glazer, was my mother's consultant too. Now I think of it I remember Mam saying that she'd seen Mowlam in the waiting room there once.

policywonk · 31/01/2010 22:06

Oddly, Walters doesn't sound anything like Mowlam but sounds a lot like Clare Short.

DrNortherner · 31/01/2010 22:08

I'm watching, and remembering. Redcar is my home town, my dear dad who passed away was a labour councillor for redcar and knew Mo well. He was instrumental to her campaigns to win her Redcar seat, as a Kid I had a few buffet lunches at her Redcar house, and I still have a letter she wrote to me when I was about 13. Lovely lady.

I did have a little snigger if the seaside town at the begginning of the programme was suppossed to be Redcar.....

ilovemydogandmrobama · 31/01/2010 22:09

Her husband had a relationship with Clare Short (after Mo died) but just was reading he recently died

Am loving Julie Walters playing Mo. Bafta for sure.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 31/01/2010 22:10

yyy that's what i keep thinking, wonk. i've rewound a bit cos i got a telephone call, so she's just scratched her head in front of the shinners.

i suspect that i am liking it well enough because of my warm feelings towards her rather than the production itself. it seems pretty workmanlike in most respects. thing is, for all she was an unorthodox politician, she is still pretty wonk-speaky by comparison to ordinary joes.

i note the new labour coffee mug theme.

Laughed at Sinn Fein being referred to as, 'The Sinns'

policywonk · 31/01/2010 22:11

I'm a bit unusual (if not completely isolated ) in that I never warmed to Mowlam as much as most people did.

DrNortherner · 31/01/2010 22:14

My dh can't bear her policy, so you are not alone.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 31/01/2010 22:14

really? but she called tony 'babe'.

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 31/01/2010 22:16

Was she really so direct?

'Cocks off the table'?

policywonk · 31/01/2010 22:17

Oh thanks DrN, fell less freakish now

How comes you're watching this for the first time Aitch? Thought you'd had a preview tape.
