still no excuse to make a comment like that about his sexuality - you can get sacked from most companies for making a comment like that.

bodycolder · 11/10/2009 12:05

But he sold his 'sexuality' story to the tablods it isn't exactly a secret!

hatesponge · 11/10/2009 12:07

I think the comment was completely unfair and inappropriate - I found myself saying aloud to the TV 'oooh, you bitch Dannii' (I hate the way the X factor makes me talk to the TV....

The fact that he is openly bi is surely no reason to raise it on national TV when he's meant to be getting a critique of his SINGING performance! No-one else's sexuality has been commented upon in that way as far as I can recall...or is that because they are straight?

I'm not a great fan of Danyl's over the top performances, but I felt sorry for him over this...he looked as though he was going to cry poor bloke.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 11/10/2009 12:08

the comment, surely, was only to the effect that he shouldn't feel the need to change gender-specific lyrics because he's bisexual? what's the big deal? i don't get it.

bodycolder · 11/10/2009 12:11

I don't think she was having a dig or being nasty in any way Have experienced the Minogue effect first hand in Australian gay clubs and they are not homophobic! There is no need in 2009 to change the lyrics to protect the poor public who might not cope with/vote for someone who is openly bisexual/gay

AitchTwoToTangOh · 11/10/2009 12:17

yy, it is patently LUDICROUS to suggest that she is homophobic.

thesunshinesbrightly · 11/10/2009 12:21

come on, she made a comment big deal, that's what she's there for.

scroobiuspirate · 11/10/2009 12:29

def innaproritate, that comment, and a bit silly of her. it's the first provocative thing she's ever said.

dull woman.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 11/10/2009 12:33

i like her more and more since she's ditched the 'tox.

itchyandscratchy · 11/10/2009 12:33

I think he 'came out' early on to avoid a repetition of the Will Young nonsense when he won it and was forced to come out by a horrible tabloid story.

Dannii (even typing the two iis makes me ) was completely out of order. Yes, he's out - big deal - but it should be a singing comp now.

and so he shouldn't have been told off for being 'arrogant' by Louis and Cheryl, esp if those comments are based on things he's accused of in the tabloids. (all this rubbish about making Kandi Rain cry that i've just seen on the NOTW website)

< at my web habits on a sunday morning>

TheFoosa · 11/10/2009 13:39

lol at thedollshouse - yes, typical night out in Plymputh down the 'Candy Store'

Pollyanna · 11/10/2009 13:45

I think it was just a misjudged comment that backfired/came out wrong. I feel quite sorry for her - and don't believe she is homophobic. Pity because she had upped her game this year and was managing to get some attention of Cheryl.

Throughout the show Simon was really unpleasant to both Dannii and Cheryl and some of the guests too I thought. He took defending his artists to new levels. I agreed that KandiRain looked like strippers/hookers.

dh thought Dannii's comment neant that Danyl had had a sex change!

daftpunk · 11/10/2009 13:50

agree BC.... she was telling him not to be ashamed of his sexuality....gay pride and all that.....she wasn't be offensive at all imo.

just another case of hysteria...[yawn]

Oblomov · 11/10/2009 18:25

I thought her comment was .. well factually incorrect anyway. She was using the wrong word.
Why didn't she say, 'Sexuality' ? So he is gay, is he ? so what.
'Gender' implies what ? that he is a woman ?
She is stupid. I don't like her.

AuntieMaggie · 11/10/2009 18:32

it was still an inappropriate comment, regardless of her meaning and I don't agree that she was telling him not to be ashamed.

it wasn't said in that way and she would have had plenty of time to tell him that outside of the live show. she was making fun of him and what had been in the press about him - as a contestant on the show you should expect that sort of thing from the papers but not the people on the show. his sexuality has nothing to do with his singing and shouldn't be brought into it just as she wouldn't have made fun of someone being straight.

as for hysteria - have you ever heard of diversity? a comment like that would have serious consequences in most large companies these days as they are working hard to stop exactly what she did, which is making fun of someone because of their differences.

besides which, he has said he is bisexual not gay, so its not as if it went against his sexuality and most gay singers change the lyrics of female songs to sing about a female.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 11/10/2009 18:35

well hang on a minute, len on strictly come dancing said to ali and brian 'according to what i've read in the papers you're not having trouble with your gapping' or words to that effect and there wasn't a hoo-ha. this is come up because people are homophobic, tbh. and they shouldn't be.

daftpunk · 11/10/2009 18:43

auntimaggie;

it was an hysterical reaction....and makes the people running around hysterically look like idiots..

he's crap anyway...gay or bi-sexual

paranoid2 · 11/10/2009 19:01

why does everyone not like Dannyl? Both Louis and Cheryl said he was cocky but what has he done to warrant that. Has there been stuff in the papers?

moulesfrites · 11/10/2009 19:07

It made for very uncomfortable viewing, and I think she was wrong to say not but I certainly don't think she intended it in a homophobic or mocking way - she was telling him not to be ashamed of his sexuality, but it came across that she was outing him...

Oblomov, No, i think she was correct to say "gender reference" even though she was talking about his sexuality - she meant changing the words "boy" to "girl" or "he" to "she" - these are references to gender.

AuntieMaggie · 11/10/2009 19:15

so I look like an idiot because I give a shit about diversity issues which Dannii obviously has no idea about

bigchris · 11/10/2009 19:19

what will happen tonight with no louis, will it be down to the public vote alone?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 11/10/2009 19:25

i thought dannii's point was that the world can handle diversity, wasn't it? (although quite clearly it can't, but what does she know, the big showbiz lulu?)

daftpunk · 11/10/2009 19:29

exactly aitch...

itchyandscratchy · 11/10/2009 19:29

hmmm good point about tonight's outcome. Maybe it will be down to Simon as chief judge. But if it comes down to getting rid of one of Louis' acts (highly likely at least one will be in bottom 2), it would be maybe like kicking a man when he's down surely?

God I've had a teriible thought. Surely even X Factor wouldn't stoop so low as to have any of the acts singing a Boyzone song in the sing-off?..... They still have to repeat the sing from last night don;t they?

daftpunk · 11/10/2009 19:32

12 years of labour.....endless gay pride marches....gay rights....

all been wasted if danni can't say what she said..
