Oh god. Have wiped the tears now.

The maths are really bugging me. She'd serve half of the 5, but she must have been on remand for at least 6 months. At least but how pregnant was she when she went in? Assuming she was just pregnant that would make it at least 10 -12 months (approx 9 months of preg and 2 months after) which equates to 20 -24 months sentence leaving her max 26 months left of which she would have half of that to actually serve. AAAAARRRGGGHHH.

And she would not have been sentenced without probation report about her and prob psychiatric reports too. But in the interests of drama, I guess, they had to sentence her there and then.

I don't know how the prison system works for mothers and babies unfortunately but I don't think they automatically put them up for adoption. And surely they would appeal too? I bloody would.

Still, didn't stop me from howling at the end when they took the little mite away.

foxinsocks · 09/10/2009 22:22

you'll have to tell Headless to stop arguing the legal points with her dh and get her arse onto here!

castille · 09/10/2009 22:22

Can't watch that - am not in UK - can anyone tell me what he says?

PutDown · 09/10/2009 22:22

No mention of arse, please Foxin socks!

foxinsocks · 09/10/2009 22:23

ha! I called and there you were . Psychic. Even better than Derren Brown.

HeadlessLadyH · 09/10/2009 22:23

x posts foxy! Was outside having a fag discussing the legal niceties with DH.

GoppingOtter · 09/10/2009 22:23

thanks simple susan

did anyone think ella looked like another actress - big in 70-80s that could have been her rl mum???

its bugging me

PutDown · 09/10/2009 22:23

Am now unduly and disturbingly obsessed...

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 09/10/2009 22:23

interesting, he sounds like a good guy

katsh · 09/10/2009 22:25

He says that he wanted to show a "slow burn" provocation. Also that re. the sentence; it is what happens, and he doesn't think it's right for the mothers, the babies or for anyone. It's not just, but it's how things are, were his words I think. Confirmed that babies are put up for adoption if Mum will be in prison for 18mths+ as there is no facility for them to stay with Mum.

CybilLiberty · 09/10/2009 22:25

Ella looked like jenny Agutter

TwoManyFallsAndYouGetABadScore · 09/10/2009 22:26

Am PG and a bit hormonal, so in my world they appealed on the grounds the judge should never have been on the case and that her children needed her, her sentence was reduced and they gave her her baby back before she did something awful to herself.

I am much happier in my world - anyone want to join me?

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 09/10/2009 22:26

sorry obviously that was directed about the Katsh link

OP posts:
PutDown · 09/10/2009 22:26

Agree,loads of grounds for appeal.

fabhead · 09/10/2009 22:27

yes i agree - actually he made me cry. He basically said from his research and experience that was the most likely outcome and that it was not really fair as the baby hadnt comitted a crime and she was claerly capable of being a goog mother once she recovered and got out which would be in the best intrests of the baby. Questioning the system but said hard cases lik ethis only way to advance the law (so could she appeal and change case law?)

SlartyBartFast · 09/10/2009 22:27

i thought she would at least have stayed in mother and baby unit until the baby was 18 months

what about the faces of the jurors when the buggering was revealed

katsh · 09/10/2009 22:27

Bythepower - I thought you were referring to headlesslady's dh

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 09/10/2009 22:27

Why can't they be fostered for a year? Agh... it's going to give me nightmares....

Maxine Peake was brilliant BTW...

PutDown · 09/10/2009 22:28

Deserves BAFTA.

FreeJulietteMiller · 09/10/2009 22:29

have name changed do you like it?

HeadlessLadyH · 09/10/2009 22:29

Twofalls def agree that the judge would never have been allowed to try the case so def appealable. What happens to the baby in the meantime I don't know sadly. Once the defendants leave court, its the Home Office who become responsible for them.

TwoManyFallsAndYouGetABadScore · 09/10/2009 22:29

I don't get that either - I mean children can be fostered for a lot longer whilst parents get themselves together. And also, there is a father around in this case - surely he would have a say.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 09/10/2009 22:30

LOL at name change!

fabhead · 09/10/2009 22:30

yes, lets all go to bed safe in the knowledge that in MN land, she appealed, had a crack team that got her sentence reduced to less than 18m and she kept her children ...

I know it is only fiction but as he says, this is often what happens.

simplesusan · 09/10/2009 22:30

I said during an earlier episode to dh that even if she does prove domestic abuse, can you still get away with murder literally and it seems you can't.

This was without knowing the constant anal sex rape. Crap all ways round.
