Wife Swap - anyone watching this

OMG OMG OMG! I can't believe what I am watching! This mum spends 4 - 12 hours on the internet chatting to her friends, she says her small baby has 'chosen junk food over health'

OMG!

no she hasn't, YOU have chosen it for her. This is going to make me judge until I can judge no more!

I am doing no judging here, other than the fact that these people chose to go on this god forsaken show, because C4 made the programme they set out to make. The only judging from me is of C4, and in particular the suggestion that the hairdresser should stick to the "rules" and feed that little girl crisps for breakfast. That was unbelievable - even the mother herself stated that is not an everyday occurrence (thank heavens).

I've thought for a while that there should be an age threshold for children taking part in Wife Swap. 18 months or so is far too young to have a substitute mother foisted on you, not to mention having your health and wellbeing put at risk for the sake of making good TV. Very very irresponsible IMO.

serajen · 22/06/2009 11:17

Agree with you Twinklemegan, it all smacks of sensationalist TV, was tantamount to child abuse IMO watching baby Georgina last night, tragic. Wife Swap has usually been more lighthearted but they've gone too far now and I hope that little girl somehow has a happier life now and the unborn comes into a better place too.

I don't know, Twinkle. On the other thread there were accusations of
'living in an Ivory Tower' so if this sort of parenting of small children
has now become normal I would really like to see some more debate-provoking programmes about it.

It's too important to be swept under the carpet.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/06/2009 14:24

this broke my heart last night and i was truely saddened

the little girl was being abused - abuse is not just sexual - but also emotionally and intelectually

i blame the dad as well as the mum, yes he was at work, but he knew what was going on and didnt kick her fat lazy arse into looking for and caring for his child

being left alone for hours in her cot with nothing to eat till 1pm, though obv she was given milk - i assume that bottles were left the night before in her cot for her to have as and when

georgina was such a happy little soul and when got love and attention was so pleased

yes the blonde lady was a tad obsessive about cleaning but better that then to ignore your baby

i just hope some good came of this programme, the sheer look of pleasure on georginas face when playing at the soft play centre

some people just DONT deserve to be parents, they cant manage to look after one child, and is now pregnant, and gets a larger house (prob will trash it give a few months)

and then you get those on here who are desperate to have the priviledge of being able to be a parent, and might never be called mummy

JenniPenni · 22/06/2009 18:21

'and then you get those on here who are desperate to have the priviledge of being able to be a parent, and might never be called mummy'

Yes, I am one of those The show saddened me deeply. I have no words. Only tears for the life that little girl has.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/06/2009 18:30

jenni - i feel the same - i have replied on other thread as well, but i really did break my heart last night

life just isnt fair

and thing was georgina was so happy and contented playing by herself, as she really didnt know any different

TeenyTinyToria · 22/06/2009 20:09

I was saddened by this programme - thought the mum needed help though. Hopefully she will receive support.

However, I don't think that a child who plays happily by itself is necessarily a neglected child, as some people on here have implied. My ds is 2, and plays independently for half an hour to an hour at a time - he just gets involved in games and imaginary play, and is quite happy pottering around.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/06/2009 20:19

half an hour to an hour yes fine to play on their own

6hrs while the mum was on the internet isnt

also once your child is awake,by all means leave them 10/15mins if happy in cot but not till 1pm!!

children need routine and food, so breakfast 7/8/9 is normal not at 1pm

TeenyTinyToria · 22/06/2009 20:47

I agree, Blondes - that child's routine and life style were totally messed up.

mum2samandalex · 23/06/2009 09:29

new this would be on here.Watched it last night and was in tears for that little girl. I really hope social services have got involve and are keeping tabs on that little girl. Shes gulty of neglect if you ask me.I dread to think how she is coping with two small children.

SpookyMadMummy · 03/07/2009 16:10

Just picked up my local paper and saw an article about this programme. I live in the town where the sofa woman lives. According to the paper the programme and her 'life changing experience' triggered a social services investigation.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/07/2009 19:29

really?

wonder what the outcome was?

StealthPolarBear · 03/07/2009 19:31

I didn't see the programme but have read the threads and I'm glad that has happened.

SpookyMadMummy · 03/07/2009 21:06

Didn't say anything about the outcome, but it wouldn't. Would be confidential I assume. As I say, the paper is local to the hairdresser sofa woman so not the same Local Authority when it comes to Social Services.
