Anyone watching this and what do you think?

The last time I worked along side Accenture people, they worked 14 hour days then went to the pub. Takeaway food was delivered to the office. I was PG at the time and exhausted. I said, sorry i need to eat proper food and made my excuses at 7pm. Hardly anyone would talk to me, and quite often I would find MY desk given over to temporary staff as I was not working there "full time". Arses!

Ewe · 18/05/2009 21:29

I don't know Effie, I did think that.

Surprised that 25% of women with degrees are childless at 40. Wonder what the percentage of women without degrees and without children at 40 is... without this info it's difficult to put into context.

HolyGuacamole · 18/05/2009 21:30

Did he just say that "boys are wired for sucess"?

Portofino · 18/05/2009 21:31

And what percentage of those women go on to have dcs in their early 40s.....

MistressSeuss · 18/05/2009 21:32

I love pseudo science....

EvenBetaDad · 18/05/2009 21:32

Thank goodness the girls won.

I think he is doing it on purpose in the name of "inciting healthy debate".

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:33

My ds (4) is hugely competitive. No idea where he gets that from at all.

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:34

I had my ds at 39 having never been bothered about having children at all.

Clary · 18/05/2009 21:35

That's awful isn't it about 1 in 4 graduate women being childless at 40.

Find that very very depressing

Ewe · 18/05/2009 21:36

I don't understand what they are doing here, surely this is largely irrelevant? They aren't necessarily representative of all women and all men.

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:36

I think if you are on a career path it is hard to find the right time to have children.

Itsjustafleshwound · 18/05/2009 21:36

I would so question the figures being bandied about on this programme ....

Ewe · 18/05/2009 21:36

This is about knowledge of the task not gender. I am confused!

EvenBetaDad · 18/05/2009 21:36

High testosterone is also well known to cause men to make stupid risky trading decisions that result in gigantic financial losses - see credit crunch for details!

I'm avoiding this programme as I suspect it would get right on my tits. Reading this thread, I think I made the right decision.

Ewe · 18/05/2009 21:38

I think if you are career focused you need to have children early in your career in your early 20s or in your late 40s.

The socially "ideal" time to start a family, around the age of 30, is the worst time for your career in my experience.

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:39

I suffer from Hermione Grainger syndrome! Drives me nuts.

EffieGadsby · 18/05/2009 21:40

This trading exercise means nothing. The program's pretty banal, although this doesn't entirely surprise me. BBC2 seems to have nosedived recently (I'm thinking Property Watch, which I abandoned after a few minutes. oh! This Justin man was on that too. He is obviously the face of shite BBC2 programming).

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:41

Why are they talking to this idiot?

Portofino · 18/05/2009 21:43

I don't understand why we all want to have it all! It's just not doable. Your priority is surely either work or your family? You can have a good combination of both, as I indeed do. I could push myself for bigger promotions, but actually don't really want that at the moment. Xenia would tell me off I'm sure

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:44

I don't understand Erin Pizzey's point. More men are in top jobs than women. So what about those women who choose to work?

Ewe · 18/05/2009 21:45

I think she makes sense actually.

MollieO · 18/05/2009 21:45

Some of us Portofino don't have a choice

GivePeasAChance · 18/05/2009 21:46

It really is Janet and John. Who are these people they are talking to??
