some would say that

no, he narrated it

expatinscotland · 19/04/2009 22:43

Yes, Suzi, because the other big problem with paeds is that many are compulsive liars. And very, very good at it.

They are often very charming people.

So there's always a degree of uncertainty about the extent to which tehy have been rehabilitated.

morningpaper · 19/04/2009 22:44

No, but calling paedophiles 'child rapists' doesn't help anyone, if they aren't erm child rapists

All it does it make them into HORRIFIC MONSTERS which doesn't do anyone any good because then people think 'oh that can't be my husband / my brother / my friend' and they then turn a blind eye

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 22:50

MP in a court case i was 'involved' in

a witness shall we say R was called over from Spain to give evidence

he was a very minor witness from the victims past

it turned out the case relied strongly on him.

the crux of his evidence was that he used the words 'raped; in what was not a rape case

he said the victim told him she had been 'raped'

however R explained - that in his 'book' RAPE was any unwanted sexual advances attentions or molestations
He felt strongly about this and said he would not change his wording but fully understood it not to mean penetration of any sort

the court all accepted his wording

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 22:51

i dont know if it was a cultural or religious thing

I thought it was technically rape because it is presumed that a person under a certain age cannot give full consent.

But not entirely sure about English legalese.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2009 23:00

It does strike me as rather odd that terms like sexual abuse or molestion are used when it pertains to a child, but if it were non-consensual sex between an adult victim and an adult perpetrator it is rape.

JeanPoole · 19/04/2009 23:12

oh god that made me feel sick to my stomach.

seems like the best place for them, they should live there until they die.
and they should be castrated

this has made me worried about anyone coming near my dd.
how do these peados get close to children and how can you help keeps your children safe?

i was spitting blood when they where saying they don't choose this.
they choose to attack and rape children

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 23:14

jean

just be aware

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 23:18

being aware of people is the only way

thats not to say be jusdgy judgy of every bloke who wants to work with kids etc but just take a second thought and check you feel comfortable

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 19/04/2009 23:19

No one chooses a personality disorder.

I'm always curious when people are saying forcibly castrate them - what age would they like that done 16? 18? 20? once they've committed their first act against someone younger than them.

Obviously it needs a great deal of thought since it's likely just a continuation of them being abused as children who go on to rape/molest children.

You don't suddenly wake up at 16 having been abused as a child and become automatically responsible for your behaviour.

It's a perpetuation of abuse in most cases. Unfortunately we only see the adult men once they've been caught after hundreds of offences.

We fail to catch people very young when therapeutic help may make a real difference.

JeanPoole · 19/04/2009 23:27

suziseis, this has made me really scared

I'm always curious when people are saying forcibly castrate them - what age would they like that done 16? 18? 20? once they've committed their first act against someone younger than them
yes after the first act.

they might not want to fancy children but they do choose to act on their urges

they are evil

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 19/04/2009 23:30

A child of 16 is not 'evil' just because they abuse a younger child

a 16 year old does not suddenly become responsible for themselves if they have been abused their entire life

JeanPoole · 19/04/2009 23:31

yes they are.

izyboy · 19/04/2009 23:32

But is is fair on that 16 year old for them to be in society surrounded by children? Can we expect this 16 year old to have 'contol' over their urges?

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 23:35

laurelfairycake

'it's likely just a continuation of them being abused as children who go on to rape/molest children.'

many many support groups quote that as their least liked phrase

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 19/04/2009 23:35

Ah, I appear to be arguing with the only person on the board who is entirely black and white and has no empathy with children.

16 year old abused children are not 'evil'. They may with therapy overcome the abuse done to them and be punished and rehabilitated for their crimes.

It's much harder with people who have very entrenced behaviour.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 19/04/2009 23:36

Suzi - it is in more than 70% of cases down to the nurture they received as children and any early sexual abuse.

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 23:37

but the converse is not true

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 19/04/2009 23:37

entrenched

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 23:37

and also , what exactly are you quoting with such conviction?

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 19/04/2009 23:38

Yes, abuse victims (of which I am one - and now a therapist) may not like that - doesn't stop it being true for those who have not entered a support group.

JeanPoole · 19/04/2009 23:39

dittany thanks for the link.
i really agree with him.

SuziSeis · 19/04/2009 23:39

eek not sure you get my drift
