What did you move onto once you had finished it?

We are loving it but are now on series 7 and wondering what will fill the void when we reach the end of this series?

We did watch 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip' which was OK but odd as we were watching it knowing it had already been cancelled.

'John Adams' is fantastic.

'Damages' (not as good as WW IMHO but entertaining nonetheless)
'Mad Men' which is excellent

frasersmummy · 14/04/2009 08:26

I am slowly building my collection of the west wing... its fantastic.

You could try "The Practice" about a very low budget boston legal practice

Americans just seem to do drama better than the brits

I dont know if its because they run 22/24 weeks and not the 6 we do

LadyMuck · 14/04/2009 08:26

A different genre but we found that Greys Anatomy also had good writing and some great characters. 24 has also been on our must watch list.

notyummy · 14/04/2009 08:32

Battlestar Galatica.

I know, I know....but honestly, the remake is FAB. Wonderful cast, great writing; and it is in no way some sort of bizarre 'alien monster' freak show.

Tis an allegory on the war on terror doncha know...?

I also second Studio 60, which we enjoyed. Plus Mad Men. Quite like Damages, although found I had to watch it when I was WIDE awake or I couldn't keep up with the time switching/multi layered storyline.

moopymoo · 14/04/2009 08:37

I liked studio 60 though second the 'bit weird that it had already been cancelled.' I have found nothing that comes close to WW, dh and I are contemplating watching box set for 3rd time ! Sad we are. I have tried most of the stuff mentioned on this thread but not got hooked in yet. The only thing I am loving at the moment is Big Bang Theory which is totally different but very funny and very sharp. Might check out Battlestar though - used to love star trek but dh won't countenance it..

Hassled · 14/04/2009 08:46

Yes, we've done as Christiana did - just started over again (several times). I'm quite obsessed with my inappropriate crush on Toby Zeigler . There are plenty of good box set series like that - Sopranos, etc. - but nothing in the same vein as WW.

moopymoo · 14/04/2009 08:47

yes am a toby man too. Though would not ignore Josh. Or even the president (either of them) sigh...

notyummy · 14/04/2009 09:03

Josh.

Everytime.

Its the way he runs his fingers through his hair....and you can tell he has got a great body under that rumpled shirt.

Cailleachna · 14/04/2009 09:16

Love, love, love this series. It is what got me into American drama generally, although there is very little that comes as close for quality. Try The Office (US version); quirky comedy rather than intense drama but still great. Firefly FANTASTIC if you have any inclination towards sci-fi/fantasy but got cancelled before the first season had even finished.

Oh, and Josh yes, but I was rather chuffed when Matt Santos showed up - I've had a mad crush on Jimmy Smits since I was about 16.

notyummy · 14/04/2009 09:30

Ooh, also Generation Kill (just finished on FX). Based around a Platoon of marines going into Iraq during Gulf War 2. Execellent writing (and lots of shots of fit young men with their tops off....but that is purely of secondary concern, obviously).

The Wire....very challenging, but good once you get in. My Mum and Dad (who are in their 70s!) are now hooked since it has come to BBC2, although they have confessed to needing the volume up high to try and grasp some of the more hardcore Baltimore black drug slang!

Tell your DH that BSG (as we fans know Battlestar Galatica ) bears no resemblence to Star Trek (apart from the rather obvious being in space bit....). It is a gripping drama, and shouldn't be automatically pigeoned holed under sci-fi.

giveusabreak · 14/04/2009 09:37

Nothing will fill the void left by Matt Santos but I am trying The Wire. Finding it hard to get into but that is because I am brain dead and it is quite a demanding series. I will persvere. I also want to see John Adams. The scheduling time was pants 5pm??? DH is to tight careful with money to buy a PVR so I have to save up for one from my measly wages (yeah, I know, makes me sound like a 50s housewife)

HelloBeastie · 14/04/2009 09:37

We loved the West Wing, it is definitely worth rewatching as it is so packed that you miss things, or forget them.

Then we moved on to The Wire, which is also good. Though I don't recommend you try and watch too many episodes in one night or your head will explode. Oh, and it's pretty violent.

ja9 · 14/04/2009 14:37

Goodness, I can't imagine rewatching it from the beginning - can't believe so many of you do this...!! But then, I've never been one to re-read a book either... hmm!

A lot of the writing team went on to do House. We like House - very different, but very good (and has that nutty work ethic thing running through it too)

wilbur · 14/04/2009 14:45

We moved on to The Wire as well, and also have just started watching Generation Kill (terrible title) but like the West Wing in approach but about war in Iraq. Dh likes it more than I do, but it is v good, just a bit macho. I love Boston Legal too and House.

giveusabreak · 14/04/2009 14:52

Hassled and Moopymoo Toby, really? Josh OK, Sam Seaborne deffo and Jed Bartlet and Arnold Vinick had an avuncular charm but Toby..... nope didn't get that

megcleary · 14/04/2009 15:01

Hmm nothing can match it DH bought me the box set for Crimbo and it has been on a high shelf until I hand in my dissertation next week.

Am droolong at the thought of watching it again..

The only thing to come close is Mad Men.

procrastinatingparent · 14/04/2009 15:09

Mad Men

Also House, but the last series or so has not been as good.

We're now watching WW for the third time, interspersing it with Mad Men, and recording The Wire for a time when we are not feeling brain dead.

procrastinatingparent · 14/04/2009 15:10

Enjoyed Studio 60 too but almost entirely for the dialogue rather than the characters. I thought it was wrapped up too neatly at the end.

muddleduck · 14/04/2009 15:14

Still miss the WW
Went through all the box sets when the boys were babies.

Toby? NO NO NO!

Liked studio 60 lots.
Like Mad Men lots

First season heros was also ok.
Not so keen on house - bit to formulaic imo.

CJCregg · 14/04/2009 15:22

Just getting to the end of season 7, second time around. Love it, love it, love it. Get more out of it each time, so it probably won't be long before we start again at the beginning ...

Studio 60 was really good but just not quite the same fix, somehow. Am enjoying 30 Rock, but that's comedy so you don't get as involved. Don't think anything can quite match up to global crises and the Bartlet administration. 'We got the mo, baby!'

No to Toby. Yes to Josh and Sam. No, no, no to Will Bailey. And I'd go gay for CJ. (Obviously)

procrastinatingparent · 14/04/2009 15:25

Yes, to Josh. Not really to Sam. No, no, no to Toby.

At one point we were watching so much West Wing I thought I saw Leo McGarry driving down the High Street ...

Hassled · 14/04/2009 16:21

You thought you saw Leo McGarry? Now that's a sign of a true fan .

Yes, I do mean it about Toby. It's all that angst and introspective brooding. And sometimes you even see him smile.

TheFallenMadonna · 14/04/2009 16:24

Definitely yes to Toby.

In the first few series anyway.
