What did you move onto once you had finished it?

We are loving it but are now on series 7 and wondering what will fill the void when we reach the end of this series?

OP posts:
moopymoo · 14/04/2009 19:17

its the grumpy brooding uncompromising genius thing that gets me every time. Actually he is very like my dh. Though he is a drama teacher. And not really a genius. So not the same. He is grumpy and balding though

moopymoo · 14/04/2009 19:21

whats Mad Men? It has passed me by..

megcleary · 14/04/2009 19:22

tis on bbc advertising in the 50 & 60s well written stepford wives etc very good

Marthasmama · 14/04/2009 19:23

I didn't enjoy Studio 60. After about three episodes it was a bit samey. Another vote for The Wire here. He LOVES it! I enjoy Dexter as the writing is pretty clever and Burn Notice is good if you can get past the emaciated ex-girlfriend. I also LOVE Californication. And no to Toby, too much beard. No to Josh too though. Ummm, I liked Will Bailey. He was SO funny!

MrsY · 14/04/2009 19:27

Love, love LOVE TWW!

We watch it again and again interspersing with 24, Magnum PI, Band of Brothers, Heroes - any random box sets. Also love Studio 60. Never understood why it was cancelled.

BTW, don't get the Toby thing.

Jed Bartlett, Josh Lyman, Sam Seaborn and Matt Santos. Especially Matt Santos !

MrsY · 14/04/2009 19:30

Also NCIS - partly because the writing is very good, but mainly because Mark Harmon is so yummy.

He was CJ's secret service guy that gets killed in Posse Comitatus (sp?).

TheOldestCat · 14/04/2009 19:32

Another WW fanatic here, wonderful stuff. DH and I also enjoyed Studio 60, although it suffers by comparison with the WW. I just couldn't bring myself to CARE about a behind-the-scenes TV show as much as the intrigue of the White House. S'good though - it's a shame it got cancelled.

I'd recommend ER (the first few seasons anyway) and all of Six Feet Under.

curlygal · 14/04/2009 19:36

Has anyone seen "sports night"?

I think that is the series Aaron Sorkin did before WW and Studio 60.

I have it on my lovefilm list but it hasn;t been released here.

WW is my favourite programme like EVER, why why why did it ever end? I've watched my dvd's I think three maybe four times and am sure will watch them again.

Took me several attempts to get into Studio 60 but once I did it was worth it.

Josh - definitely
Sam - yes please
Toby - has a certain something at moments so could over look the beard
CJ - have a head girl crush on her - she is just so fab - clever, quick thinking, tall, stylish sigh

Will Bailey - just too short and smug
POTUS - too short but maybe would

Personally I love Matthew Perry so loved him even though he was a republican

TheFallenMadonna · 14/04/2009 19:38

I've seen Sports Night. It has the bloke from Six Feet Under/Dirty Sexy Money in it. And Lynette from Desparate Housewives. And Will Bailey.

sis · 14/04/2009 19:39

Yes to Toby's mind but erm, visually, nope. Never saw the attraction with Josh and am ashamed to say that after being made redundant from a nightmare job last year, I watched the entire series of Gilmore Girls and loved it!

tribpot · 14/04/2009 19:43

Sports Night is great although watching it after the West Wing you'll be tempted to think "hang on, didn't so-and-so say that? Isn't that the name of [x]?" as there was an element of recycling (not in a bad way). Felicity Huffman rocks, loved it.

Studio 60 - never really allowed to hit its stride, I think. Enjoyable but after TWW a bit . I still wonder what TWW could have been if the network had not have cancelled Sorkin and Schlamme. No jumping of the shark in S5 for a start. Going back and starting again is definitely acceptable at least a few times!

What compares? Well, nothing obviously. The first few series are, IMHO, the best things ever written for television. But we are about to start with The Wire, having heard it is awesome, and also watched Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Alias? A bit silly but enjoyable.

TheOldestCat · 14/04/2009 19:48

I've also seen 'Sports Night' and it's pretty good - agree with tribpot though, it does seem familiar once you've watched the WW. I think some of the episodes have the same titles... [sad geek alert]

Two episodes into The Wire and I'm enjoying the writing, but boy is it grim. I think I'm about to get gripped, but it's been so hyped I'm worried I'll be disappointed.

HumphreyCobbler · 14/04/2009 19:55

Am halfway through series six now and am really dreading getting to the end.

I have watched so much WW that at one point I got confused as to who was ACTUALLY president of the US (am very sleep deprived).

You Toby fanciers are obviously insane.
He is REPULSIVE.

I still miss Sam.

Ronaldinhio · 14/04/2009 19:58

mad men
dexter

jimmy smits...

tribpot · 14/04/2009 20:02

Cat - all Sorkin series have "What Kind of Day It Has Been" as the title for the final ep of S1. No idea why but why not?!

Santos, Obama, Bartlet - hell, even Alan Alda, who I adore, quite happy for any of them to be POTUS.

On the trickier of issue of "who do you fancy off TWW" this is problematic. For me it has always been Leo. Yes, I am happy to out myself as a Leophile. Josh - too neurotic. Sam - too geeky (although beautiful). Toby - too neurotic. Will - too neurotic. Charlie - actually Charlie is lovely but still no. The Pres - lovely but even in fantasy wouldn't do it to Stockard. Ron Butterworth - swoonsomely brave but no.

Love Debbie Fiderer btw. Who else would say "in my defence, I was high" to the Pres?

CJCregg · 14/04/2009 20:36

Oh, I'm loving this thread.

Apparently Joshua Malina (Will Bailey) has been in everything Sorkin's done. Can't quite understand why ...

Has anyone seen The American President? Really disconcerting if you've watched WW first. Martin Sheen is Chief of Staff, Nancy McNally is the Press Secretary, and old handbag-face Michael Douglas is the President. But the set's the same, and a lot of similar situations (unused material inspired Sorkin to write WW in the first place). I had to watch through my fingers, it was like a horror film.

procrastinatingparent · 14/04/2009 20:51

Absolutely, saw a few scenes of The American President the other night and was totally freaked by 'Barlett' as chief of staff!

TheOldestCat · 14/04/2009 21:36

Cheers, trib. I will share that fact in the pub!

On who do you fancy off WW, it HAS to be Josh. Nothing to do with the fact that DH is very Joshlike (not physically though) and when we met (working in American news) we had a bit of a Josh and Donna situation going on.

I am nothing like donna physically unfortunately.

With you CJ and procrastinating... on the American President. It's wrong wrong wrong castwise.

Snowstorm · 14/04/2009 21:47

Nothing ... NOTHING even begins to compare with The West Wing. We are still grieving at its demise!

MrsY · 14/04/2009 22:23

Yeah, Sorkin does like to use the same cast and has a very definite dialogue style.

In Studio 60, there's Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry, Timothy Busfield (Danny Concannon, who I missed off my list but is a definite yes, and he's so cute with CJ), the black woman who they bring in to do polling when Zoe's been abducted, Evan Handler (the bald one who worked for Bruno Gianelli), John Goodman, one of the reporters from the WH press corp plays one of the soldiers in the K&R episodes, Alison Janney...

Plus half the producers and behind the scenes guys - even W. G. Snuffy Waldren (the best name ever?!).

BTW, the What kind of day has it been? thing is because that's what his mum always asked when he got home from school, iirc...

Hassled · 14/04/2009 22:28

I only registered the other day that Timothy Busfield (Danny Concannon) was in 30-something . That was a great show - although IIRC mostly it made me sob.

I think what gets me re the WW is that they could have kept it going. I know it was the changing of the guard etc and the end of a natural cycle, but I really want to know how Matt and Josh got on. I wish they'd have a WW revisited thing.

MrsY · 14/04/2009 22:34

Did you see the interview with Obama and Bartlett during the election campaign? here

Aaron Sorkin wrote it - it's very funny, and made me wonder what they are all doing now, only to remember they are ficticious chracters!!!!

TheOldestCat · 14/04/2009 22:54

Ah that's good, Mrs Y.

with you on the characters thing....this is spot on

procrastinatingparent · 14/04/2009 23:00

Even the titles on Studio 60 seemed to use the same font as WW - so odd.
