Alexander Burke the Xfactor winner and out of all of them deserved the title she is by far an amazing singer, I don't know why so many people are putting her down.

I think she worked really hard to get to where she is and I hope she goes on to win the Christmas number 1.

Alex with out a doubt has to be the best singer that has come out of X Factor. Lenoa Lewis is good but she does not have as much singing range as Alex.

She was the best of the final three, but I still think Laura should have won.

Alex is dull, she has made mincemeat of Hallelujah by warbling every note. She will just be another humdrum RnB / soul artist singer.

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 20:05

X Factor is all about likeability, doncha know. And it's about people whose opinions don't matter bumming on.

techpep · 15/12/2008 20:12

Alex is a fantastic singer and performer but definitely does not have the likeability that Leona has. Alex cries way too much and that horrible fake "I'm speechless" crap is embarrassing.

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 20:14

ugh. Likeability. How awful that whole concept is in this sort of situation.

harpomarx · 15/12/2008 20:16

just dropping by to say 'poinsettydog' is my absolute favourite christmas name so far

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 20:17

why, thank ee

ranting · 15/12/2008 20:18

Well as I'm entitled to my opinion too, I think she's crap (actually I don't even watch the X factor but I did catch her murdering Hallelujah on TV this morning). But then I loathe warblers, it makes my ears hurt in a way that no amount of Finnish death metal can (and I'm not even a Finnish death metal fan either).

And I'm sorry just because she'll get to No 1 with the song, it does NOT mean it's any good, after all The Chicken song was once No 1 too. As was Bryan Adams and lots of other shite too banal to remember. . Rant over.

oxocube · 15/12/2008 21:17

I haven't seen XFactor 2008 (don't live in UK so have mercifully avoided it) but read on internet that they had all sung Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah which disturbed me because its one of my favourite songs. I'm afraid she did the song no justice at all - there was no understanding, no emotion, no feeling. This song took the guy 2 years to write FFS and it is being given to talent show contestants to showcase.

The mind boggles

jenk1 · 15/12/2008 21:50

i liked her at first but then when she started to talk over dermott after performances, say things like anything that stands in my way of winning will have to go and the performance on saturday which was deserving of an oscar, i mean she actually said that she had asked beyonce could she do a duet with her,erm hello..........

i much prefer Leona,i wont be buying alex,s single or her album becuase IMO she,s fake.

Quattrocento · 15/12/2008 21:55

Hate on?

braveandchristmassy · 15/12/2008 22:03

Jeff Buckley's version has gone into the charts this week at no 30, yey! Let's face it it's never going to sell as many as Alex but it would be great to get it higher as the youngsters who listen to Fern and Reggie on a Sunday afternoon will get to hear how it should be sung.

PingpingsatonSantasface · 16/12/2008 09:21

BabyBaby123 I agree but JLS might be better off getting there own deal that way they can sing what they want. They will go very far.

jenk1
say things like anything that stands in my way of winning will have to go

Alex never said that not once.

I think her reaction was a little over the top but could you imagine singing with Beyonce and then winning the X factor??

VT JLS were not supposed to sing with westlife they were supposed to sing with Rhianna but she dropped out at the last minute.

Alex by far was the best of the final three. But I agree LadyBuntingofCupcake Laura should of been in the finals and the only reason Louis voted her out was because he knew she would win it which is a shame. I am sure she be ok since she is going out with someone from the X Factor and Simon will most likely sign her.

There ain't nothing wrong with RnB singers

I did think when Beyonce started singing, it showed suddenly how small and airless Alex's voice is IYSWIM. And also the great beauty of Beyonce made Alex look a bit scraggy and not all that. But it was Beyonce. She did a reasonable job with Hallelujah but there are at least two better versions out and about. Quite liked Diana but am glad not to have heard her version

Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/12/2008 09:34

Objectively, I think she is a good singer, but not my kind of singer- I can't stand Mariah/ Whitney/ Celine. I do watch the X-factor, but I hate manufactured music, tbh. To me a group is a lead guitarist, a bass guitarist, a drummer and a vocalist. And I wish people would write their own songs or have them written for them by a talented songwriter- I am so sick of all the "versions" of songs brought out by people with no originality.

Also hated all the gratuitous over- sentimentality. And I cringe every time one of them says "This means everything to me"- it is a talent competition, not life or death. I find it really sad that so many kids aspire to be famous, above all else. I wish, just once, someone semi-level-headed would come on and be really talented, without all the gushing and neediness.

Not sure why I actually watch it now !

PingpingsatonSantasface · 16/12/2008 09:37

LOL VersdeSociete I agree I thought Diana was fab but her version would of been a bit strange.

Not sure how people can compare Beyonce and Alex. Beyonce has been doing this from the age of 12 and Alex is 19 or 20. Beyonce also has been highly trained and is reaching her 30's she is a fanatastic singer and world class. Alex is just starting out of course she is not up to scratch with Beyonce but she is still an amazing singer.

OP posts:
VersdeSociete · 16/12/2008 09:38

Yes, all of that, Jooly. Must have long chat with children pointing out that X-Factor Not a Good Thing or something to aspire to.

PingpingsatonSantasface · 16/12/2008 09:39

Joolyjoolyjoo watch Orange unsigned bands on T4 that is quite fab.

OP posts:
VersdeSociete · 16/12/2008 09:41

Hmm, pingping, just not sure her voice could ever open out like Beyonce's, but what do I know? Leona seemed to me to have a bigger voice with more range although again am not a Whitney / Mariah / Celine etc fan

gingertabbysnowypaws · 16/12/2008 09:43

i think its all the crying, really irritating

PingpingsatonSantasface · 16/12/2008 09:46

Leona has got a fantastic voice but her songs are shit. Beyonce is something else but then look at Jennifer Hudson she was in American Idol she didn't even win and she is better than Beyonce.

I think Alex will do really well but I also think Diana and Laura will do great as well and JLS.

The rest of them I don't think will get very far maybe realise a single or two but thats it.

OP posts:
Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/12/2008 09:47

Pingping- I will! Thanks!

PingpingsatonSantasface · 16/12/2008 09:49

Joolyjoolyjoo it really is a great programme some brillent bands with there own songs its on Saturday and Sunday Morning.

notnowbernard · 16/12/2008 12:50

I am also hooked on Orange Unsigned Act, it's great

Also quite fancy Alex from Blur (one of the judges)

LadySweet · 16/12/2008 22:05

Oxocube, it actually took Leonard Cohen 11 years to finish Hallelujah.

I do wish they hadn't chosen that song to cover she doesnt do the song justice (imvho) - what did Leonard Cohen ever do to Simon Cowell!

jenk1 · 16/12/2008 22:11

pingping she DID actually say what i typed
and i commented on it last week.
