who is watching it then?

wessexgirl · 13/11/2008 21:59

Oh, fkn fair play to Alice.

I was really hoping she'd get some insight from this.

Now she just needs to work on her mother .

Aarrgghhlloween · 13/11/2008 21:59

her mother is awwwwwwwwwwful!

spookycharlotte121 · 13/11/2008 22:00

Well the parents are the root of alices problems. She wanted to be more open and her mum closed the door.

The mother is disgusting. I hope her students parents have been watching her and send her mouldy chocs this christmas and perhaps some "chavvy" candles!!! TWAT!!!

artichokes · 13/11/2008 22:00

I feel slightly sorry for Alice as she will be baited wherever she goes now. Her attitudes are down to her mother and as soon as she was taken out of her mother's world she did change her attitude a little.

MegBusset · 13/11/2008 22:00

Still... who's looking forward to 'Special Needs Pets' next week?

poshtottie · 13/11/2008 22:00

didn't it remind you of Catherine Tate sketch when she was driving through the council estate with Alice and her brother.

IllegallyBrunette · 13/11/2008 22:00

Oh please, you don't really think that alice changed her views do you ??

She is just back tracking because council house people now know where she lives and she is scared.

as someone said eaelier - a lot of what alice was saying at the start was probably almost direct quotes from her mother, so maybe the experience has taught alice to have her own views and not be so prejudiced.

maybe the programme was better than i thought. was impressed that alice could admit how stupid she had been

CrushaGrape · 13/11/2008 22:01

I'm so glad people are talking about it here as I'm watching it alone and have no-on to turn and "grrrrrr" to.

Poor girl is so lovely; she just needs a bit of opportunity and it's making me so cross that she had to take responsibility for her family so early in life and lost the chance to stay in school. She obviously has so much potential.

Rich girl is incredible, and her opportunities are wasted on her. It makes me think of that quote from the beginning of The Great Gatsby, about not judging anyone, because they may not have has the advantages that you have had. maybe it's not on the James Allen syllabus.

ScottishMummy · 13/11/2008 22:01

natalie was a remarkable coper, despite financial hardship and adversity.very likeable

alice- dearie me!god at least as adolescent she has propensity for change

LittleBella · 13/11/2008 22:02

the world really hasn't moved on much, has it

giraffescantdancethetango · 13/11/2008 22:03

she admitted it while smirking, perhaps in years when shes away from her parents she will truly change.

bet they move house now.

OP posts:
conkertree · 13/11/2008 22:03

exaclty scottishmum - i think if she has her eyes opened a bit now, before she gets too set in her ways, maybe she wont be as bad in the future - but maybe i am being an optimist, and she'll never actually turn left out of her house now that the filming is over.

LittleBella · 13/11/2008 22:04

I actually think they have to move.

spookycharlotte121 · 13/11/2008 22:04

I hope things pick up for natalie. she deserves some good luck.

Nah, she won't change

Very depressing programme all round

glitterball · 13/11/2008 22:06

agree with all thats been said re the rich girl

i thought natalie was fab. i think she'll go far, given what she's already dealt/dealing with at such a young age.

made me want to buy her a piano of her own

conkertree · 13/11/2008 22:06

maybe they moved before the programme went out cause her mum did say she didnt like living there any longer - wonder if the got out before prices went down - bet they'd be devastated if they lost a few thousand on their house since money makes them superior - guess they are losing superiority all the time at the moment.

poshtottie · 13/11/2008 22:07

I found it incredibly sad. Am now going to watch sex and the city to cheer myself up.

conkertree · 13/11/2008 22:07

would be nice to think that natalie would go far but in reality - she may well never get the opportunity to.

giraffescantdancethetango · 13/11/2008 22:08

look its alices mother

OP posts:
ScottishMummy · 13/11/2008 22:08

fear not alice has the callybash and opportunities to succeed.unlike natalie who has faced adversity

LittleBella · 13/11/2008 22:09

Her mother was quite shocking really

I don't know why I should be so shocked that a teacher should think like that. It's the thought that someone who is so obviously uncomfortable about having black people in her road, might have black kids in her class. And someone who is supposed to be opening up children's horizons, is so closed herself.

I know teachers are human and are allowed to be as ignorant and stupid as everyone else, but still, it disturbed me.
