OP posts:
spokette · 14/11/2008 22:46

If you go the James Allen Girls School website, there is a section called JAGS in the community. Obviously Alice and her heffer mother don't do much in their local community

asdmumandteacher · 14/11/2008 22:53

lol!

TheBlonde · 14/11/2008 23:26

I have just watched this
I think Alice's parents made a poor decision in agreeing to do the programme.

Is it fear when you've been mugged outside your house?
I wouldn't walk through any of the council estates on South London

Do you think Gabriel would have been enrolled in school if the film crew weren't there?

ScottishMummy · 14/11/2008 23:35

why would anyone participate in this ?what did you think a savvy editor would chose to show

Doh

stuck up brat, seemingly ignorant of others and doesn't know what a soooooooper market was

Eiza · 14/11/2008 23:43

You think there is a way to help Natalie and Gabby? The documentary shook me deeply. I am sure there was a lot of editing to make it look like black and white, but I am still deeply moved by Natalie. I want my daughter to be as though and as protective as she is. I am sure that she will be very succesfull in life. She might not be a brain surgeon, but she will appreciate what life offers much more than most of us.

Quattrocento · 14/11/2008 23:49

I saw this thread and downloaded the programme and watched it with DD. DD was so angry with the rich girl. I do think whe went through some kind of learning process though. The poor girl was just lovely.

LilyMayPlumpington · 14/11/2008 23:50

"No wonder people have views that quite a few middle class parents who send their kids to private school are a bunch of stuck up, conceited, smug and arrogant twits and instil those views into their progeny"

I haven't watched this programme yet but plan to on 4 on demand. However comments like this (quoted above) are also ignorant and bigotted.

So all rich people are the same eh? Like all poor people are feckless chavs?

Quattrocento · 14/11/2008 23:56

I agree with all the posters who suggest that Alice's mother is a nightmare.

Why didn't social services intervene to support Natalie's family? Make sure the little boy did finish his speech therapy and get into school and stuff? It shouldn't have been Natalie's responsibility.

ScottishMummy · 14/11/2008 23:56

not all private school pupils are 'orrid snobs.not are all state school pupils are heid bangers

this was obviously pit two oppositionally divergent lifestyles.....watch the sparks kind programme

soapbox · 15/11/2008 00:14

I think this will be highly embarrassing for JAGS. They pride themselves on the large number of full bursaries they offer (30%) so that children from all backgrounds have the opportunity to go to the school. Worse still, it is one of the most highly selective private schools, academically, in the south east - so if Alice represents the intelligentsia, god help the rest of us!

spokette · 15/11/2008 00:24

Lilymayplumpington

The quote was "No wonder people have views that quite a few middle class parents who send their kids to private school are a bunch of stuck up, conceited, smug and arrogant twits and instil those views into their progeny"

If you bothered to read it properly, it said quite a few, not all middle class parents.

GoggleEyes · 15/11/2008 07:43

Alice has been asked to leave her school because she was wearing school uniform for some of the filming.

Stockwell News blog has local reaction.

singingtree · 15/11/2008 07:58

JAGs has expelled her? Blimey.

TheBlonde · 15/11/2008 08:06

It's just rumour and speculation not fact

LilyMayPlumpington · 15/11/2008 08:51

I did read the quote properly and the fact that you said it nails your colours to the mast - in that, you wouldn't have said it if it wasn't a sentiment that you agree with

UnfortunatelyMurderedMe · 15/11/2008 09:10

\link{http://stockwellnews.blogspot.com/2008/11/rich-kid-poor-kid.html stockwell news} Going to seek out the facebook group now.

and

here

singingtree · 15/11/2008 09:31

TheBlonde - I haven't read the stockwell link, thought it was fact. Those facebook links are pretty harsh aren't they, I feel a bit concerned for Alice.

needmorecoffee · 15/11/2008 09:35

is it right to put an ignorant 15 yo on the TV where she is going to be slated and may end up in danger?
Has she really been expelled from the posh school?

ilovejonty · 15/11/2008 12:42

Alice is a product of her upbringing and I don't feel she can be held entirely to blame. Her mother seemed to be a very unpleasant person. Hopefully the inevitable fallout from this will make Alice think about her views.

Natalie seemed to be a bright and resourceful girl and I hope she and her brother get the opportunities they deserve.

A child's bed should be a priority for spending over cigarettes and dogs imo.

wonder why Alice's parents agreed to be filmed? They must have known it would kick off. Couldn't be so ignorant they would think their views would be appaluded. And its their child that is going to get beaten up in school - the FB page was full of awful comments from other girls at the school.
I'm not surpsied Alice is spouting the crap she has learned at home. My own 16yo has my MIL coming out of her mouth and she's only been living there a year.

LittleBella · 15/11/2008 19:16

Some of those thick facebook comments were really alarming.

One rape threat at least.

How does one report that? Or is that allowed on facebook?
