Here we go...

OP posts:
squeaver · 10/11/2008 14:19

yes, I'm feeling a bit sorry for Rachel too now.

I think John has now lasted longer than Kate Garraway did last year (sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) and that's just too long. Although I do agree I don't think Heather would have asted much longer anyway.

Dh and I were talking about the scoring system last night (I know, our lives are SO exciting). If John And Kristina had the lowest judges' score but still got through, does that mean they had the highest number of public votes??

PollyParanoia · 10/11/2008 14:38

Yes Squeaver, I too have wondered about the scoring and judging from what happened to Zoe Ball (how great was she?), I think that if there is a tie then the public vote is the decider.
Apparently Lisa is an amazingly lovely warm person who everyone who works with her adores. Agree that it doesn't come across. And apparently John is a nasty piece of work so yet more reasons to get him off. I am betting that he's off next week, the tide has turned... wishful thinking? I mean even Kristina seems to be getting bored of the bad grandad at wedding performance.

Freckle · 10/11/2008 14:43

The judges are just being stupid. They are ranting in the newspapers about how the public doesn't seem to be taking notice of what they say and that we should be educated in what they are looking for by now. If they don't understand how things work by now, then perhaps we should have new judges next year.

They slate John, who is, it has to be said, completely crap, but who is also hugely entertaining. The British public love the underdog (and I suspect there are probably millions of men voting too just so that their opportunity to ogle Kristina isn't curtailed) and also love to wind up the judges. If the judges weren't so acidic in their comments to John and gave him low, but OK marks, chances are he'd be gone by now.

ObamasPinkPussyCat · 10/11/2008 14:45

John is a nasty piece of work?? That seems hard to imagine....

Agree that his time is most definitely up now. I was shocked at the bottom 2 last night as well.

DownyEmerald · 10/11/2008 14:49

I couldn't live with myself if I was dreadful at dancing and yet got kept in at the expense of a much better dancer. I looked for John last night going up to say "sorry, bye" to Heather and I couldn't see him - did anyone?

Kristina must be feeling a bit embarassed (sp?)by it all as well by now surely?

mabanana · 10/11/2008 14:59

Yup, time for John to go. People vote for him thinking they are spiting the judges, but they are just spiting the other contestants who work harder and do better. I also think the joke, which was fab at first, is wearing rather thin now.
I have met Lisa, and she's really nice! But the gurning is awful I agree.

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/11/2008 15:12

mabana, you are right there about the joke wearing a bit thin...still can't warm to Lisa though.

Tabbykat · 10/11/2008 16:21

All the judges moan about John still being in, and how their job is to educate the public about dance. But the producers of the show are the ones who signed him up, presumably because they throught he would be entertaining rather than really expocting him to be a brilliant dancer. They can't then blame the public if they are entertained and vote to keep him in....them lecturing and ranting will only keep him in longer. Joke is a bit thin now, but Heather would probably have gone next week anyway, unfortunately.

Boyswillbeboys · 10/11/2008 16:52

I am so glad Jodie was saved, but felt sorry for Heather as I think she danced really well (and definitely better than Jodie). I think the Joke is wearing a bit thin now - John has to go. He must surely feel awful knowing that a better dancer has got the boot because of him. And no more Brine For Tuna!
I was pleased Rachel was in the dance-off although I knew she wouldn't get voted off. I just can't warm to her and was secretly hoping Vincent would drop her

cyteen · 10/11/2008 16:57

i agree that rachel is a bit of a personality-free zone, but her quickstep was completely charming.

Salleroo · 10/11/2008 17:13

John needs to go. He's not entertaining anymore, he's just rubbish.

I'm happy the public get to vote though, I thought the judges were pretty harsh on Jodie, ok she was a bit wooden, but Cherie got better marks for her absolutely brutal Salsa last week. It doesn't help I suppose, that I think she is mutton, she dances to crap music and she doesn't captivate me when she dances. I just dont get what they see in her. Dont like Lisa and her Alicia Silverstone wonky lips and Brendan and his no lips either.

I thought Austin's Rumba was great. Sometimes the judges award for technicality, sometimes its for performance and it differs depending on who's dancing. Pretty inconsistant, and why does Arlene always have to shout???

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/11/2008 18:20

dreadful voice,Arlene's...scratchy,gratey,shrill....
Actually I like Austin a whole lot more than Tom..his rumba wasn't anywhere near as cringy as it could have been.Plus he is funny and his wife seems really nice.

VanillaPumpkin · 10/11/2008 19:09

I really felt for Rachel this week. It was the lack of public support that put her in the bottom two and that must have seemed crystal clear to her. Like Gabby last year (too competitive though fab dancer). She did not deserve to be there.
I may even vote for her next week.
I thought Jodie and Ian's Samba was so sweet. She smiled the whole way through and had me smiling along with her. Great.

John has now outstayed him welcome unfortunately. He needs to go next week.
I will miss Brian. I loved his and Kristina's dance and Beyonce's performance.
That professional couple were so fast . Even DH mustered a 'wow'.

SlubberOverTheYardArm · 10/11/2008 19:21

I tried very hard to focus on the profesional couples dance, but all I could think of was 'why is his shirt hanging out like that? He should have tucked his shirt in before he started. He looks a mess. Tuck your shirt in mate'

I also get very anxious about tangled up limbs and fallings over and then the hard fake smile of joy and rapture through the shame. They move their legs far too fast. It isn't natural at all and makes me very nervous.

cyteen · 10/11/2008 19:45

The guest professionals' skillz were totally overshadowed for me by their dreadful 80s styling and desperate facial mugging. Even Karen would have been ashamed!

Showmeheaven · 10/11/2008 19:54

Poor Rachel doesn't seem to have much of a personality and I think that's what Arlene was getting at when she made the dead behind the eyes comment. It doesn't take anything away from her dancing, but it doesn't add to it either. She's not interesting or exciting to watch.

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 10/11/2008 20:24

I never thought I would evr be defending Rachel Stevens, but she did not deserve to be in the bottom and i much prefer her to Lisa who is just sooo false.
The guests weren't half as good as kristina and brian, K&B were amazing.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/11/2008 21:12

Pah, I can do Kristinas split lift - easy peasy

I'm glad you're back Slubbers.

DaddyJ · 10/11/2008 21:37

You know, the problem is that there is only one narrative worth following
and that is how pissed off the judges will be if that man John Sergeant
makes it through another round.

Particularly Mr Nasty and the shrill hag next to him, they annoy the fuck out of me
so watching them squirm gives me some satisfaction.

None of the other slebs are remotely interesting or offer much entertainment.
And let's face it, if you are interested in quality dancing just watch the pro shows
(wasn't that Cha Cha AWESOME!?!).

Next week should be tight, though: anti-Sergeant sentiment is gathering steam apparently LOL

VanillaPumpkin · 10/11/2008 22:58

It was the pro ladies dress that put me off if anything. The back was so low I am sure I could have seen her bottom crack (had she stood still for long enough) and the front . There was a sort of excess of material at the level of her fanjo that made me think it would all be on show as she spun about moving the material. Yuk!
But boy could she move!

Glad the anti Sgt sentiment is gathering pace. He has had a good run.

lunamoon2 · 10/11/2008 23:29

Vanilla-your post had me in stitches.
I think a lot of the dresses are a bit risque this year.
Me and dd love it when Ian does a latin as his shirt is always wide open showing his chest.
Personally I can't take my eyes off Austin's "new" hair as in the papers he was badly receeding in 2000 and now has a new thatch.
Apparently he has a very nasty streak too (I know it's hard to imagine)

I love jodie as she is not naturally girly and must find it hard as she is so tall. Wish Len would stop pointing this out to her at every opportunity though!!!!!

Freckle · 11/11/2008 11:40

It's all the judges' fault though. They see themselves as the real stars of the show and take themselves far too seriously. The more they spit feathers about JS staying in and continue to bad-mouth him the way they do, the more the British public will vote for him. It's a very simple lesson to learn, but the judges appear too dim to learn it.

womblingalong · 11/11/2008 16:58

Did anyone see ITT yesterday, John and Craigs little run in was hilarious! Craig just rises to the bait every time!

I loved Lisa and Rachel and Tom this week, I really don't think Lisa is as fake as lots of you seem to think, I think she is lovely. Rachel could do with getting a bit more personality to shine through though, but her smooth was just lovely, she should not have been in the dance off. Jodie was dreadful though this week, not sure why so many of you are so keen on her, although I heart Ian.

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/11/2008 19:34

Jodie is just the nicest girl

Febes · 11/11/2008 20:33

I agree Jodie is a sweetie.
