is it just me or is tom overindulged rude and immature

if my 14 tear old was as rude and pathetic as that she would not be carried around on my back!

I read somewhere { a digital spy forum I think } that they are born again Christians and that the dad has set up a business related to their religion.

WendyWeber · 08/10/2008 23:03

Tom was only rude after his dad bullied him though! (This is where the editing leaves you going "what? but! why?")

SBF, were you mixing up the mum's 40th birthday with Mother's Day? Only I don't remember it being mother's day...and the filming was def only for 100 days, & tonight's did seem later in the year...

Gunnerbean · 08/10/2008 23:48

Well, if they're Born Again Christias they're surprisingly normal!

BTW I love this programme.

I think that despite all the various goings on they come across as a very loving family.

salsmum · 09/10/2008 01:31

Was a bit worried by the scene of Tom in the kitchen thou with knife talkin about writing on someones brain maybe I'm upset because my DP is from Maidstone

AnitaHugginKiss · 09/10/2008 01:55

DH commented on that bit as well salsmum

candyfluff · 09/10/2008 06:21

love this programme its a loving family with problems like we all have.

southeastastra · 09/10/2008 09:33

the dad is awful, he's either completely angry or over the top in babying the whole family.

felt so sorry for tom, his dad was just on at him all the time for nowt.

Boyswillbeboys · 09/10/2008 10:33

Before last night I quite liked the Dad but he was appalling this week. I thought the way he carried on playing his saxophone really loudly when Tom was on the phone was just mean and rude. He was acting like a spoilt brat all week. Any why is he so upset about Emily going out? She is 19 FFS, at least she is working now! LOL at the Maidstone comment tho! The only thing I agreed with the Dad on was that the Mum never backs him up and always sides with the kids, they need to present a united front.

quickdrawmcgraw · 09/10/2008 10:49

Aren't they brave doing it.

The silence from the children when they're being given out to reminds me so much of when I was a teen.

I wanted to show the dad the footage of last nights show so he could see he was being an arse with double standards.

Tom has a beautiful mouth!

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 09/10/2008 10:50

all the children have the mother's mouth..the dad is very childish..no wonder Emily goes out.

candyfluff · 09/10/2008 12:04

all of their kids are good looking

NotAnOtter · 09/10/2008 12:18

kids do have good mouths but tom lacks the fab hair

i do not agree with Tom calling the dad an idiot een if he is behaving like one

he was a bit of an arse last night but living with 3 teens can drive you to the edge..........

The dad needs to remember that in a few years Tom will be leaving home.
He should be trying to devolp an adult relationship with him instead of shouting at him like he's still a little boy.

compo · 09/10/2008 12:42

I think they are brave doing it too
What sort of stick must Tom be getting every Thursday at school!!
The dad is obviously after career opportunities as why else would they sign up to a reality tv unless they need the money.

MrsTucky · 09/10/2008 14:29

I couldn't have put my family under such scrutiny, not for anything. But I do love the programme.
I do feel sorry for Tom..he must get some jip from school mates

According to this article in The Telegraph the parents are Christians.
www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2008/08/31/sv_thefamily.xml

It says "Simon and Jane are Christians and go to church every Sunday. Simon also runs Alpha courses, the 10-week introductions to Christianity, while Jane works full-time at a church-funded shelter for pregnant, homeless teenagers."

I think given that they are Christians they have a surprisingly refreshing attitude to how they are parenting their children.

The dad did come across as a bit of a dork last night, particularly when he sulked all night, was horrible to everyone, sent T om to bed early and then followed him up stairs and expected him to give him a kiss goodnight and got all mardy when he wouldn't. I think he sends out mixed messages, particularly to Tom - all disciplinarian one minute and acting like a child himself the next.

I also thought he was totally bang out of order to be so rude when Tom had his friend there.

Also, the mother must have been very young whe she had the first daughter (the one with the baby). If she's just turned 40 now she could only have been 17 or 18.

WendyWeber · 09/10/2008 20:23

Oooh, thanks for that, GB - very interesting (& Tom is already looking like that model )

I wish they would date each segment, it would help to understand & fit it all together (and I still don't get why dad was suddenly going after Tom so hard)

I understand why he had the go at Emily though - a) she was going out practically naked & b) he was pissed

NotAnOtter · 09/10/2008 20:46

fiofio -thankyou for saying that! I feel a lone voice

I heart this programme. They are wonderful for doing it and I only hope that none of them are having a tough time now that it is being shown

ohdearwhatamess · 09/10/2008 21:00

I quite like the dad (even if he does go on a bit) and feel really sorry for him. The mum acts more like another child than a parent and never backs him up with discipline etc.

ScareyBitchFeast · 09/10/2008 21:16

no it was mothers day ww.

ScareyBitchFeast · 09/10/2008 21:17

i was sure i wasnt making it up

WendyWeber · 09/10/2008 21:24

In that case no wonder I'm completely confused, SBF - there's no chronology at all, any episode can cover any amount of time in any order it feels like!

(I didn't watch the whole of the first epi, I still have it on Sky+, must go back & rewatch)

ScareyBitchFeast · 09/10/2008 21:26

exactly,
so more like one episode of fighting per child, rather than chronological! does seem strange though.
