anyone else watch it? thought it was quite good though a bit long. Also wish they had done more explaining for us unmusical types. Bradley Walsh makes me want to heave, so does Katie dereham - surely no-one can be that 'sweet' for real?!

Is that a full-time job jura?

It's pretty obvious it's going to be between Goldie and Sue. Sue I hope!

Jane Asher didn't look too happy when they said 2 of them will be going next week i.e her and my heart-throb AJ.

Katie Derham's a pain isn't she and obviously none too pleased that they focused so much on her dress "look at me, I'm a serious intellectual".

I'm still not sure I'm learning very much about conducting but it's top telly.

thegrowlygus · 27/08/2008 12:32

Oh oh oh - Alex will go next week and my heart will be broken again. It's the hair that gets me. I am a sucker for the floppy fringe. Always was.

Sue is fab.

Would love to know more about the conducting business - like someone else said, a bit less Clive Anderson and a bit more of the technical stuff would be interesting.

squeaver · 27/08/2008 12:33

He's got nice broad shoulders too. I think he'd be dirty

AlBongo · 27/08/2008 12:39

Katie is lovely and was excellent this week.

theSuburbanDryad, it's repeated tomorrow on BBC4 at 11pm.

asicsgirl · 27/08/2008 14:00

sue, goldie, sue, goldie... we love them both.

great music this week. i thought bradley walsh (keep wanting to call him bradley wiggins, been watching too much cycling!) did HUGELY better this week... but not enough to save him. not too sad to see him go tho', please please please boot Jane off next week, gah!

nb clive anderson did say at some point that if we wanted to find out about conducting we could go to the maestro website... maybe the technical stuff (like how they actually do it!) is lurking there?

theSuburbanDryad · 27/08/2008 14:05

Al - can't get BBC4. May have to watch it on iPlayer.

Bradley was a lot better this week, but I find him really hard to watch, mainly because I keep expecting him to turn into Norman Wisdom.

I was very impressed with Katie's Mozart actually - she's had a really steep learning curve but she's getting better and better. I was a bit at her moaning about the dresses though.

hannahsaunt · 28/08/2008 10:40

Just watched this last night. Can't believe how fabuous Goldie and Sue are - it's clearly something you just have in you. And so clearly Jane does not. Great to get rid of two next week - fingers crossed for Jane and Katie. (to go, that is)

weblette · 01/09/2008 08:20

A very good chum has been working with Goldie this week as his rehearsal singer!

She's an opera singer so it was just her, Goldie, pianist and a mentor getting to grips with an obscure Mozart aria.

Her view? He's a brilliant musician. Can't read music but has the most astonishing memory, she sang it, he memorised it.

Unfortunately she won't be the one singing it on the night, they wanted a more slebby singer. She should be in some of the footage though

squeaver · 01/09/2008 08:23

Wow, that's exciting, weblette.

Everyone on here is so well-connected, musically speaking.

weblette · 01/09/2008 08:28

She has the most amazing voice squeaver. Goldie made her promise she'd come up to town for the show

squeaver · 01/09/2008 08:47

I think he's going to win it, you know. Funny I always thought he was a bit of a dick before I saw this programme but I like him now.

ipanemagirl · 01/09/2008 16:53

am loving this series.

I was pleased that Alex got through, I just couldn't cope with another minute of clowning unhilariously from that to Bradley whatever.

Goldie and Perkins are stunning, I'm so impressed!

Can't bear Jane Asher at all. She's just too stiff for me and that rictus grin, yuck. Don't like Katie either, find her terribly patronising.

Have been getting into watching amazing conductors on youtube now I have more of a sense about what they do. also there's loads of Bernstein kicking off with an orchestra while conducting WWStory which is really interesting too.

nickytwotimes · 02/09/2008 21:03

theSuburbanDryad · 02/09/2008 21:04

Dh has just realises he knows Sue Perkins!

I think i just did a sex wee...

squeaver · 02/09/2008 21:06

Dryad! I told you, everyone knows someone on this thread!

squeaver · 02/09/2008 21:07

Someone IMPRESSIVE, I meant to say

nickytwotimes · 02/09/2008 21:07

I don't!

theSuburbanDryad · 02/09/2008 21:13

Hmm - not much communication between Sue and the soprano there.

To be fair, he doesn't think he's seen her since he was 6.

nickytwotimes · 02/09/2008 21:13

The heid-bummer's put down his violin - that's a sure sign it went well.
