On BBC3 now.

Surprised to see that a mother who is so interested in the way her child/children look, would drive them around without them wearing seatbelts.

The poor, poor girl, I felt so sorry for her last night. She seemed so sad and depressed, she needs to be a 12 year old, not a bloody barbie doll. The bloody parents need a slap!

GooseyLoosey · 15/07/2008 10:05

I only watched about 10 minutes of this. I started with the attitude that without knowing anything about the people, I felt it was wrong and in some way cheapened her childhood. However, I then gave my self a metaphorical shake and decided that this was very judgemental and if it made all concerned happy and really was a route to a better life, then I should keep my judginess to myself.

I got to the point in the programme where the little girl picked 3 words to describe herself "pretty, blonde and dumb" and the only one she reinforced was dumb. I also saw the bit where the father said his daughter had grown away from him but he did not think that she was happy.

All my initial prejudices flowed back. I feel truely sorry for the child and I hope that her parents watching this back get some kind of perspective on who it is all for and where it is going.

katz · 15/07/2008 10:15

i'm still totally gobsmacked by the whole programme.

The mother is just ahhhhh, she is living her life through her children, i mean how many grown women would be so excited about wearing a sash just to promote a sports car?

The Dad has given up pretty much.

The daughter i think is just doing what her mum wants, although at the modelling agency, she did say she wanted her her normal so she could model for them and the mother said oh we'll see!

BabiesEverywhere · 15/07/2008 10:33

Not seen it but you can watch it on iplayer here

tortoiseSHELL · 15/07/2008 10:34

I am quite scared that parents like that exist tbh. That poor little girl.

The saddest bit for me (among many) was at the airport when the mum was trying to get her to perform, because (quote from earlier) - you never know who's watching - if you sing at the bus stop and Andrew Lloyd-Webber walks past then you've made it. And poor Sasha wouldn't do it, and then muttered 'Piss off you stupid cow'. Dad goes 'WHAT DID YOU SAY?' and she says 'I was talking to myself.'. What sort of family relationship is that? They should have bought a wind up doll instead of having a daughter.

tortoiseSHELL · 15/07/2008 10:35

And, do you think it is a coincidence that she loves 'sashes' and her daughter is called 'Sasha'?

TsarChasm · 15/07/2008 10:46

The words Meal and Ticket spring to mind

candyfluff · 15/07/2008 10:51

poor girl she doesnt seem happy or like she's enoying it at all the mother needs to realise that she cant live her life thru her daughter its not fair and i can see in the future that sasha will turn against her mum for making her grow up too quickly

misdee · 15/07/2008 10:58

that poor kid.

she is such a pretty thing when she isnt covered in slap. why why do that to an 11 year old.

heck i know my dd's will want to wear make up at secondry school but not at 11 surely.

the only thing that made me smile was when she actually did the cheerleading routine in the pageant and she looked really happy with herself. the rest of the time she looked sad and unhappy.

nappyaddict · 15/07/2008 11:52

her mum was talking about wearing a sash like it was the most exciting thing in the world??? why - it's just a bit of material!!

yes i know most 11/12 year olds wear make up but it's normally a little bit of eyeshadow and lip gloss not full on slap.

waffletrees · 15/07/2008 11:59

This programme made me so angry. Maybe this little girl will end up as a model , who knows? However, she hasn't gone through puberty yet and unfortunately the puberty gods are very fickle. Some girls come out of it stunning and others are not so lucky.

I think if we fast forward 10 years Sasha will have no relationship with her mother. You really can't live your dreams through your children as they tend to grow up hating you.

FWIW - I feel very sorry for all the mums of the girls in Sasha's year. I bet all the girls come home asking to bleach their hair, have flase nails and tan.

Kimi · 15/07/2008 18:20

I would like to point out to Sasha that if Jorden is her idole and she wants to be like her then she needs to get going at school, the one thing Katie Price in NOT is a dumb blond, she is a very good buiness woman

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 15/07/2008 18:32

It was awful, wasn't it? Poor kid. That mother was a looney - she needs treatment, frankly.

Kimi · 15/07/2008 18:59

Treatment is one option, shooting is the other

HumphreyCushioni · 16/07/2008 01:07

Poor little girl.

Googled her name, and found this on starnow.co.uk.

She has no agent, so Mumsie is in charge.

This is Sasha's blurb:

"i have a great personality, very reliable and easy to get on with, i am bubbly and outgoing and always ready to try new things and up for a challenge sasha DOB 17/7/96 max my brother DOB 24/9/99 we are both very photo genic and do amazing pictures, we can also do loads of emotions.I NOW ATTEND STAGECOACH A RECOGNISED DRAMA ACTING AND SINGING SCHOOL"

This is a link to the page of photos on the page.
look at the one of the two parents on their own!!!!

The parents really do have a complete lack of self-awareness.

Poor, poor children.

i hate hate hate the ones of her in the red dress, silver bube tube, black trilby thing, pink feather boa. they are just wrong.

i think she looks lovely in the ones with a white tshirt and jeans with a sash presumably from on of the uk pageants. there's also one where she has a white vest top on and her hair is half up and down where she looks like what a child should look like.

She looks better in the photos where she is her natural blonde colour. Why on Earth does her mum bleach such lovely hair?

Her mum is a nutter, poor kid.

NutterlyUts · 16/07/2008 17:29

Her eyes don't smile when she does

Poor Sacha

lulumama · 16/07/2008 17:40

wathced it last night, thank you sky + !

the poor girl was not allowed to express her own opinions was she? she did not have the hunger and drive for fame , or ability to articulate herself you would expect from a child so desperate to be famous, be a model, be on tv

so desperately obvious that her mother was living vicariously through her daughter

the son sang appallingly ! no point pretending your children have a talent! he won by default really

sasha is a pawn and a puppet in all this

i bet she dare not tell her mother she does not want to model

she seemed an unhappy and discontented child

such a shame

meglet · 17/07/2008 20:57

this is being repeated on BBC3 in a minute. I am going to watch even though it will wind me up.

DiscoDizzy · 17/07/2008 21:18

Omigod. Don't like the mother and not keen on the girl either. Bigheaded, though I know her mother's to blame for this. Reliving her fantasy through her daughter.

meglet · 17/07/2008 21:22

LOL at dad calling Lorraine Kelly "back stabbing 2 faced bitch". Nightmare family, poor little girl .

NigellaTheOriginal · 17/07/2008 21:28

DD (also 12) watched this yesterday. I came home from work today to find her in full makeup putting lemon juice on her hair. Help.

Pixel · 17/07/2008 21:29

I watched this earlier on iplayer. The bit that really cut me up was when they were visiting the american family who were giving them 'pageant advice'. They were watching videos of other girls' 'performances' on the laptop to show Sasha what she was aiming for and you could see the realisation that she was out of her depth hit her like a sledgehammer. She looked sick with terror. All credit to her that she then stayed up practicing her cheerleading routine and I did warm to her a bit then.
However, the mother was completely unbearable and seriously deluded if she thinks the son has an ounce of talent. My son is non-verbal and I suspect even he could win a singing competition if there was no-one else in it .
