last week in 9pm slot bbc had 'criminal justice' - great, thoughtful drama. this week something so woeful i'm offended.
dh reckons it was made with sat tea time slot in mind - ie it's aimed at children. i think he's being kind. and they did just chop someone's head off.
script dire, acting shocking - i keep thinking i'm watching a sketch and waiting for the punchline.
shocking.

I'm amazed any of you got past 10 minutes. The bit at the start with the builders and a coin was so cliche that I checked the info bit on the TV to make sure it wasn't a comedy.

And right at the start, all the screeching 'the bodies are buried over here' and serious faces...it was all too much.

I'm sorry I didn't make it to the sword scene. I turned back at the end to see something that looked like a piss take scene off tomb raider.

another one

Real archaeologists kick Bonekickers!

Best bit: "His team has just made some enthralling discoveries too. Not yet a fragment of the cross, true, but that's good because so far they haven't lost any workers decapitated by a zealot in a Knights Templar T-shirt."

OrmIrian · 11/07/2008 14:03

Well. I must say I always found that to be quite an advantage uqd. Mud, yes. Constantly wet clothes, yes. Trench foot, maybe . But decapitation, no.

KayHarker · 11/07/2008 15:30

I'm kicking myself now, nearly did archaeology at Uni, but I decided against it based on the risk-of-decapitation thing. Damn.

UnquietDad · 11/07/2008 15:33

I'm surprised you didn't decide against it based on the "risk of opening ancient barrow and being frozen to death and unleashing deadly alien forces" thing!

if, and its a big if, they could identify the wood, and it was common enough to have data on it to compare it to to get a date, and (getting a bit hazy now, its been a while) they know where it was from, then the conversation would go something like this:

'would be great if we could get a date from this lump of wood Tony'
'yeah but Phil we know which period it is from the artefacts'
'lets ask Mick anyway'
'no, theres no point and no funding and anyway everyone knows you only get three days to do archaeology, it would take months to send it off to a dendrochronologist in Cambridge etc for analysis and they charge a farkin fortune'

Twinklemegan · 11/07/2008 22:42

Well I watched the second half of it tonight. Dr Who won for the first half. And it was truly truly BAD - embarrassingly so. But I'd expect nothing less. I mean a drama that's really about archaeology would be so deathly dull and depressing!
