last week in 9pm slot bbc had 'criminal justice' - great, thoughtful drama. this week something so woeful i'm offended.
dh reckons it was made with sat tea time slot in mind - ie it's aimed at children. i think he's being kind. and they did just chop someone's head off.
script dire, acting shocking - i keep thinking i'm watching a sketch and waiting for the punchline.
shocking.

for entertainment value, the mn tampon puzzle much better. more drama, better written, believable characters. they should just put mn on bbc1.

I don't get this til Friday. Can I take it that my profession isn't portrayed in a realistic and believable way then? What a surprise. I must say I LOL'd when I read about this one a couple of months back.

UnquietDad · 08/07/2008 22:41

It was so brilliantly, hilariously bad. I kept picturing Jan Ravens or Jennifer Saunders doing the feisty lead role. Everyone looked in every take as if they were trying so hard not to crack up laughing.

"I don't want to worry you, but some men with mediaeval swords have just broken into your apartment!"

And that "I'm on the phone? So I'm going to repeat what you just said?" moment...

The other thing it reminded me of was that Mitchell & Webb sketch where they are doing a bad hospital drama and say things like "This man is Very Ill, he needs the Special Medicine!" and so on. I know nothing about archaeology, but honestly, the scenes where they did things like identifying a wood by looking at it... come on!

WilfSell · 08/07/2008 22:43

Don't you think, when actors know a script or idea is really bad, they act particularly badly too as if winking to the camera? As if to tell us 'i didn't really want to be in this shite, but my agent made me...!'

JackieNo · 08/07/2008 22:44

And why did she need to keep that tiny splinter of wood from the nurse's finger when THEY STILL HAD THE ENORMOUS HUNK OF WOOD IN THE CAR??

JackieNo · 08/07/2008 22:45

Yes - the men with mediaeval swords breaking into the apartment - has nobody heard of phones?

sfxmum · 08/07/2008 22:49

I did not watch tonight as am clearly sat here writing an essay but the reviews said the first one was the worst and I refuse to believe that anything with Adrian Lester in is un watchable

It was truly awful.
Worse than Dan Brown and that's saying something.
And the simplistic messages about organised religion really annoyed me.

JackieNo · 08/07/2008 22:52

The music at the end was such a rip-off of the Indiana Jones music, wasn't it. All that swinging around on ropes - utter shite indeed.

OomphreyCushion · 08/07/2008 22:53

Sooooooooooooooooooooo disappointing.
DS2 (10) had been allowed to stay up to watch, and he decided he'd rather go to bed half way through.

wotnopulling · 08/07/2008 22:55

ooh, that is damning. no disrespect to your v discerning son oomphreycushion but if a ten year old boy would rather go to bed. ouch.

wonder if we should forward this thread to the bbc so prevent a second series?

I suspect it may not stay at 9pm Tuesday prime time slot for long...
I expect to see it floating off round the schedules.

JackieNo · 08/07/2008 23:00

Where's Aitch when you need her?. Maybe she can tell us whether next week's worth persevering with.

TheOldestCat · 08/07/2008 23:02

Like Unquietdad, I became more and more convinced that I was actually watching the French & Saunders xmas special.

NoBiggyFinish · 08/07/2008 23:37

This was written by the Life On Mars pair wasn't it?

I recorded it on that basis.

What a shame.

wotnopulling, DS2 thinks we should forward this thread to the bbc to try and prevent a second episode!

absolutely awful.

purlease · 09/07/2008 09:48

B movie standard.

MegReally · 09/07/2008 10:13

Oh I am so glad to have seen this thread, this has made me lol

my favourite bits were the news report: "Your colleague says you touched a piece of old wood?"

and when they were watching the Knights Templar slideshow (everyone has one of those tucked away for special occasions) and the lass has been stood there in front of the sofa with a block of wood in her arms all the way through, and eventually goes 'I found this', and no-one has said to her 'Why the block of wood? We're watching a slide show'

fryalot · 09/07/2008 10:17

I have rarely been so disappointed by a tv programme.

I wasn't sure whether to watch it in righteous indignation that they thought I was that thick, or whether to just turn it off and stick pins in my eye sockets instead.

What's on the other side so I know what to watch next week?

mum2oandh · 09/07/2008 10:20

am I the only one who loved it? had a really bad day and pml from beginning to end, personal fav. was the guy who led them to the dovecot in his garden, then must have just pottered off to allow good and evil to do battle, amazingly after said battle, torching the crucifix of christ, not to mention a few baddies, it seemed a trip to the pub was in order. This was a piss take, right?
