A shiny new thread for a shiny new series. Please bring your dancing shoes over here.

Not sure whether I am doing weekly threads or not yet. Yet to decide, but I’m doing one for the first episode anyway.

The preshow chat thread has been quiet and I’m wondering if lots of people aren’t watching due to the departure of Tess and Claude. I have my reservations about the new presenting team but I’m willing to give them a chance.

KEEP DANCING 💃

Content creation is as much a "proper job" as any other creative job - some paint, some write, some act, some direct, some make video, some create games, some present light entertainment shows.

Rather like most creative jobs the successful are few and far between and make it look simple and ridiculously easy. The reality behind those short vids is often many, many hours of work requiring skills across a range of areas. As with the arts generally, the majority barely make a living or do it as a side line.

Agree with this. I work with young people and they say they want to be an influencer or content creator not realising how much work there is. Even creating content on your off days. Living/ breathing it. And yes the successful ones are few and far between and make it look easy. Like the best at any job.

I stand corrected. Clearly, I am showing my age.

Maybe the term content creator just brings up the wrong kind of image for me and many others. If they had stated actor/film director/artist/web designer/tutor it would have had more meaning and carried more weight to old gimmers like me 😁

I think the widespread use of the terminology is relatively recent but most of skills are aligned to those creating longer form content for TV or film including the ability to run a business and sell its services (especially this last for the solo creators).

Its the business side which sinks many of the more promising hobbyist creators - that transition from hobby to business to income generation is very hard to bridge and its .insecure as consumer taste and fashions change rapidly. The smarter creators such as the early vloggers and Twitchers diversified the content and their business interests early rather than splashing the cash on the lifestyle. Rather like sports stars who have the sense to build parallel skills for the post competition decades instead of blowing it all on high living.

I’m Team Josh! I love him anyway - been a Parenting Hell listener since lockdown - and he told Rob how nervous he was about the launch show on the podcast. He’ll settle in, as they all will, and I’m looking forward to this series more than the last few.

A shame that 3 of the new pros have been benched, it does seem pointless to bring them in, give them a showcase dance and then nothing. It would have been understandable to bench Dianne for this year and give someone else a chance and I don’t get the show runners’ love affair with Amy. Yes I understand she’s had a horrible time with her health and seems a lovely person, but she obviously struggled so much last year and her choreography just leaves me a bit “meh”.

They need spares though, for group routines and to step in, in the case of injury. Also I'd imagine the new ones quite like just being a part of the whole shebang without having a celebrity to train, to start with.

I’m not sure Diane was very happy with her partner last night! Her face was a grimace rather than a smile.

I didn’t get that impression

HoraceCope · 20/09/2026 12:16

i mean you could criticise Dani Dyer,
contestant on love island,
nepo baby

And he had a good career before as air traffic controller. He took a massive risk leaving that at 7000 followers. It’s a bit mad to me and I could never have made such a decision. I’m v risk averse.

I don’t even know who he is but fair play to him.

They all always dance in one show. The first few are always like marathons 😄

I tend to zone out of the first few episodes that is why i can never remember people's names !

Mooselove · 20/09/2026 11:02

I too don't understand why they take on new dancers and then they don't get a celeb.

I don't mind Amy although her dances are not that thrilling. Personally I can't take to Diane. She annoys me and always has.

That's not new, though. They need dancers for the group numbers. Neil, Lauren, Luba, and Nancy all started out as part of the Strictly Troupe before being given a partner. Same with Jowita. She joined the pro cast in 2021 but didn't get a partner until 2022 (Hamza).

Those who were criticising Josh's arms - they were leaning on a barrier, he wasn't just flailing around

They look like they are having the best time 😀

I guess I was a content creator then - website content (copywriting, images, supporting documents etc) 😁

If originating the ideas and content then yes - especially if building the site as well. Most of the big creators build teams around them but when small they need to do all their own business and technical work as there is no money to pay for help. And they need their own kit which doesn't come cheap, especially for the streamers.

There are plenty of "grey" content creators - you haven't missed the boat 😁

RowsOfFlowers · 20/09/2026 13:35

I quite liked Josh - Emma is grand… solid choice for a presenter she is. Not sure on Jojo… yet….

Lampzade · 20/09/2026 13:36

ilovebrie8 · 20/09/2026 11:09

I’m not an Amy fan her choreo is dull and she’s OTT.
I’d rather that they kept Luba she never got a good go at it I felt.

Amy should have been replaced to be fair

AlwaysExtraHot · 20/09/2026 11:43

I think there were a few years when they split them across two shows but it was some time ago.

Lampzade · 20/09/2026 13:44

Valeryvictorious · 19/09/2026 23:17

Josh and JoJo were just as I was expecting, hopeless. Whoever picked those two needs sacking. Zoe would have been a trillion times better. Emma is a pro but needs a wardrobe check.

I always thought that it would be Zoe and Rylan
However, I was happy with the new three tbh
Unlike others, I was impressed by Johannes particularly when he was in the training room
His story is like a ‘rags to riches story ‘
A young gay black man from South Africa who comes to the UK and becomes a professional dancer on one of the biggest shows . .He then gets to be a presenter on that self same show . That is the stuff of fairytales
The comedian chap will get better when he relaxes .
I think it will be a great season

Lampzade · 20/09/2026 13:47

DancingontheDancefloor · 19/09/2026 22:46

Right, I’ve deliberately not read this thread before posting because, as a good teacher, I don’t want the opinions of others influencing my own professional judgement. 😂
(I’ll go back and read it now…)

BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. ❤️

I genuinely smiled from start to finish. The new presenters were brilliant — warm, funny, natural — and the whole show felt fresher, more relaxed and, dare I say it, properly authentic and not so ‘try hard’ and contrived.

It felt like Strictly being about Strictly, but without forcing the sparkle quite so hard.

Right, I’m now going to read the thread and see how spectacularly wrong I’ve managed to be. 😂

Totally agree
I enjoyed it .

Indigovelvet · 20/09/2026 13:52

I also like Josh. When things settle down I think his humour will be an advantage to strictly. Right now the programme is loud and theatrical.

Lomonald · 20/09/2026 14:21

Runningupthecurtains · 20/09/2026 13:37

I think there were a few years when they split them across two shows but it was some time ago.

Yes they used to do it in two halves then have a vote off week 3, j can't remember how long it lasted though.

ilovebrie8 · 20/09/2026 14:21

I like Josh I think he’ll do well , I think Johannes should have stayed as a dancer he’s superb dancing 🕺

ilovebrie8 · 20/09/2026 14:23

I don’t mind Emma.
My pick would have been Jonathan Ross or Zoe Ball.

ilovebrie8 · 20/09/2026 14:24

My fave is Lawrence !

ilovebrie8 · 20/09/2026 14:26

His face was fake tanned but not his chest !!😂

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 20/09/2026 14:45

It Takes Two is back on Monday 28th (not tomorrow) at 6.30pm.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/09/2026 14:51

I would honestly have stopped watching if they had given it to Jonathan Ross. I don’t think he was ever in the running anyway!
