New 6 episode drama on Sundays on itv

A police procedural fronted by Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth, where they play detectives with a highly charged attraction to each other? Say less, ITV. We’re in.

This prime-time crime drama starts off in a depressingly predictable manner, when the body of a young woman is found in the small town of Wakestead, where DI Crane (Keegan) and DI Radley (Booth) work.

But as they work to uncover what happened to teenage figure skater Sophie Madsen, they discover “a tangled web of lies, institutional cover-ups, and moral compromise”.

the show will tackle the sadly very real misogyny that can be found in the UK police force.

The series also looks to have been influenced by the two Metropolitan police officers who took and shared photos (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/dec/06/two-met-police-officers-jailed-photos-murdered-sisters-deniz-jaffer-jamie-lewis-nicole-smallman-bibaa-henry) “for their own amusement” from the murder scene of two Black women in 2020.

Keegan also looks like she’ll be turning whistleblower, turning her sexist colleagues against her in the process.

As the official synopsis says: “Crane must navigate both a murder investigation and the treacherous politics inside her own team.”

Alongside Keegan and Booth, you’ll also see Ian Hart, Nathan Mensah, Nigel Boyle, Joe Armstrong, Matilda Freeman, Gavin Spokes, Josh Bolt, Vikash Bhai and Ceallach Spellman all popping up.

What else do we know about The Blame?

The Blame is based on the 2023 book of the same name by Charlotte Langley, and is written, developed for television and executive produced by Megan Gallagher, who previously worked on All Her Faultand Wolf. Gallagher explained her rationale for creating the show, describing it as “such an important and urgent story to tell” right now.

ITV’s director of drama Polly Hill added: “The Blame is a brilliant new crime thriller full of surprising twists and a compelling investigation that also cleverly tackles police corruption, exploitation and misogyny as the thriller unravels…

This is going to be an unmissable drama and one I’m very proud to have on ITV.”

I don’t watch Corrie so didn’t recognise her

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 14:53

I really want DB to be innocent but not sure how he can be seeing that video - why didn’t he say he had seen her

we have big Names like hart and Armstrong (god he look likes his dad) so can the chief be on on it and maybe too obvious to be the coach

well it’s keeping me guessing so that’s good

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway oh wow, I thought I recognised the Sophie actress from somewhere but couldn't place her.

You won't be able to unsee it now... Grin

I am off work unwell so have binged it this morning. One of the better police dramas. I actually thought it was pretty good.

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 21/09/2026 16:01

Watched last night and haven't yet succumbed to any more episodes, agree that the men's behaviour is appalling, it reminded me of working in a traditional male environment in the early 90s (not in a good way), and it horrifies me that this is what the police are still like now some 30 plus years later.

Surely there have to be twists and turns for this to be 6 episodes long.

As an aside, I am familiar with some of the filming locations, so I will probably stick with it just to see them.

Yes she is has bottoxed etc - def no likes on her forehead

She’s has a lot of tweaks to say the least! looks nothing like in her Corrie days.

I don’t really like criticising but I find MK face really distracting, she has that waxy mask look

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 21/09/2026 20:39

As I’ve now binged the series ill
leave the thread.

Despite MK’s face it was a good watch and I’m glad I stuck with it

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 20:42

Oh @OllysArmyRidesAgain

shakes head Sadly 😛

And you @doveinitial. Tho speedy recovery

I would like to binge as it’s good bit like to chat after episodes

I really wanted to stick to this because my watch list is quite short at the moment, but I just can’t. MK has never been the greatest actor but her frozen face is so distracting.

Totallybannanas · 21/09/2026 21:45

Watching first episode, have to say the acting is dire and so unbelievable. The only thing interesting about MK in this is her wardrobe.

blondeboobshell · 21/09/2026 21:53

I’ve watched the first episode, it was fairly obvious who was involved. But I will give it a bit longer

everyoldsock · 21/09/2026 22:00

Yes I too was thinking whilst watching that first episode it’s obvious whodunnit.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 22:04

Oh thank goodness. He didn't do it. So who did

But now the whole station hates her. As does Tom - well he also loves her

I'm going back to her dad. He didn't seem upset in e1

But if it's a copper then maybe the top - detective chief inspector Walker aka Hart as he's a big name

But least she has Lewis helping her now

Just happy it wasn't Tom. So now they need to find out who it was and clear Toms name

I'm a bit confused with the 4yr flashbacks - did she frame someone /fake evidence (I had a friend call and was semi concentrating)

I must ignore phone 9-10 or pause live tv 😂

Will search for a recap or can anyone let me know

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 22:05

@blondeboobshell and @everyoldsock is it ?

Who do think it is

love a speculation if haven’t seen them all

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 21/09/2026 22:08

Ok so Tom has been set up big time hasn't he.

The flashbacks to putting Vogel in prison for murder 4 years earlier must be relevant. At first I thought it was Vogel's revenge on Tom as Tom seemed to have gone all out to put Vogel away despite some of the evidence being weak. But now with the police radio in the background of Sophie's 999 call and the constant referral to misogyny and abuse of power within the police force it would appear it's someone in the police force.

Emma was surprised Walker rushed to arrest Tom without at least talking to him and he told Emma that all men are different when women are not around. Is Walker making Tom a scapegoat because he refuses to act like the rest of them? Or because Tom has dirt on them all?

Obvious suspects for killing Sophie are the 2 officers that interviewed her and made that inappropriate video. Particularly if she was going to make a complaint about them.

burnoutbabe · 21/09/2026 22:08

I assume now it’s the older police chief. As was quick to arrest pretty boy.

but pretty boys excuse was crap. Surely as soon as you are told of a missing girl you’d say hells bells she was at the event yesterday and complaining about stuff, I dropped her home at x time.

unless you know she is dead?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 22:12

I’m just relieved it’s not him @PrincessScarlett

i need to rewatch the flashbacks I think. They obv mean something

I’m wondering if it’s chief boss Ian hart

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 22:14

One would think @burnoutbabe tho he said he didn’t know who to trust

but he could have said to Emma

OP posts:
everyoldsock · 21/09/2026 22:15

I think it’s the police chief and if I’m right then that’s an example of really shit writing.

everyoldsock · 21/09/2026 22:15

It's certainly looking that way. Agree that Tom could plausibly have come clean straightaway, even if he knew she was dead, rather than risk dodgy behaviour like cleaning his previously filthy car. And could have pointed out his complete lack of digital contact with any of the girls. I thought in the four years earlier flashback scenes, Tom looked the same, but Emma looked ten years younger! Mostly the hairstyle, maybe. But with what, two more eps? There's time for another twist, maybe.
