New 6 episode drama on Sundays on itv

A police procedural fronted by Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth, where they play detectives with a highly charged attraction to each other? Say less, ITV. We’re in.

This prime-time crime drama starts off in a depressingly predictable manner, when the body of a young woman is found in the small town of Wakestead, where DI Crane (Keegan) and DI Radley (Booth) work.

But as they work to uncover what happened to teenage figure skater Sophie Madsen, they discover “a tangled web of lies, institutional cover-ups, and moral compromise”.

the show will tackle the sadly very real misogyny that can be found in the UK police force.

The series also looks to have been influenced by the two Metropolitan police officers who took and shared photos (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/dec/06/two-met-police-officers-jailed-photos-murdered-sisters-deniz-jaffer-jamie-lewis-nicole-smallman-bibaa-henry) “for their own amusement” from the murder scene of two Black women in 2020.

Keegan also looks like she’ll be turning whistleblower, turning her sexist colleagues against her in the process.

As the official synopsis says: “Crane must navigate both a murder investigation and the treacherous politics inside her own team.”

Alongside Keegan and Booth, you’ll also see Ian Hart, Nathan Mensah, Nigel Boyle, Joe Armstrong, Matilda Freeman, Gavin Spokes, Josh Bolt, Vikash Bhai and Ceallach Spellman all popping up.

What else do we know about The Blame?

The Blame is based on the 2023 book of the same name by Charlotte Langley, and is written, developed for television and executive produced by Megan Gallagher, who previously worked on All Her Faultand Wolf. Gallagher explained her rationale for creating the show, describing it as “such an important and urgent story to tell” right now.

ITV’s director of drama Polly Hill added: “The Blame is a brilliant new crime thriller full of surprising twists and a compelling investigation that also cleverly tackles police corruption, exploitation and misogyny as the thriller unravels…

This is going to be an unmissable drama and one I’m very proud to have on ITV.”

Do we think DI Radley is a bad un? As we didn't see who the other copper in the room was, just the snigger.

Squints eyes. Did you watch live ……

lets hope a sensible reason why they were together

and why he didn’t tell her

Ugh I knew he was going to somehow be a bit of a wrong ‘un…far too good-looking for a cop 😂

macaroon8 · 20/09/2026 22:05

Watching it in real time. Knew he was dodgy . If it wasn't him who killed her then he's made a massive error of judgement by not saying anything earlier

PrincessScarlett · 20/09/2026 22:07

Well that was pretty damning of the police. That video of Sophie being interviewed was absolutely appalling.

DI Radley seems a complete wuss not wanting to rock the boat, I don't know what Crane sees in him as his attitude makes him so unattractive. And obviously something dodgy about him giving Sophie a lift and not telling anyone.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2026 22:08

Well I enjoyed that and roll on e2

its prob too obvious to be the coach and hopefully wont be the sexy Mr Booth

sad that men will be like that and esp
police, to woman

I really enjoyed ep1

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/09/2026 22:09

I enjoyed this. But it’s uncomfortable viewing.

Not a fan of Michelle Meehan though.
and I thought it was her love interest from the shifty way he was acting.

It's not sad that men, especially police, are like this, it's outrageous!

Agree it's uncomfortable viewing given what has come out about the police in recent years.

This. And sadly it’s not shocking nor a surprise.

everyoldsock · 20/09/2026 22:25

It was OK, better than the usual crap that only seems to be shown on ITV or Channel 5. I just hope the main theme of the whole series isn’t police misconduct because I don’t find it compelling viewing to say the least.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2026 22:33

Sad outrageous shocking. All of it

I like Michelle Keegan - she kind of seems to play the same strong characters but I like that and know what I will get when I watch the stuff she is in (only watched 1st ep of this so hope I’m not wrong) a bit like Sheridan Smith

OccasionalHope · 20/09/2026 22:37

There are five more episodes so it has to go somewhere else surely.

I seem to have the book on my kindle (downloaded when it was a 99p deal and not read yet) so I might try that.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 00:06

Well hopefully be a good reason why getting in his car

she won’t be able to take them all down alone

she also need a bit of romance so fingers crossed a good reason

Obviously BOATS (Based On A True Story), and all that stuff was a bit clunky, and I fear Tom is too good-looking to be true, struggling to see how he can be the good guy here (not that there has to be a good guy).

allthebadthings · 21/09/2026 00:43

No spoilers but there is a warning at the start of one of the episodes further on, just be aware of it if you’re browsing and watching

Gloriia · 21/09/2026 08:20

I like a police drama but switched off half way through this. Keegan's immovable face and Booth's overreacting spoilt it for me.

As an aside do detectives really go out in the field doing ground searches when someone is missing? Maybe they do, thought they'd be doing cctv analysis etc.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2026 08:52

Yes she is has bottoxed etc - def no likes on her forehead

She does a lot of drawing breath, I think that's what it is like small gasps but sucking in. I couldn't stop noticing it.

BlondeFool · 21/09/2026 10:45

I’ve found it extremely boring and stopped at episode 3

I have watched the first 4 episodes so far, and it does get a bit better as it goes on, but I feel like they could have made the series shorter (4 episodes instead of 6 maybe.) It drags in part.

I agree about Michelle Keegan and her botoxed face/lip fillers. When she is angry or upset, her face is just frozen, and it makes it hard to take her seriously as an actress. Sheridan Smith was like this in Black Work in 2015 - face all filled and botoxed, but she slowed down on the fillers as she got a bit older, and when she played Ann Ming (in I fought The law) in 2025, it was much better watching her/seeing her.

Most of the men/police in this programme (The Blame) are vile. Sadly, some men are like this, and it's so depressing. Just using women, mocking them and laughing at them, and thinking sexual assault and rape is 'funny.' Even in the police there are some wrong 'uns. Too many of them.

Anyone notice the pretty girl who has been killed (Sophie Madsen) is the actress who played Summer Spellman in Coronation Street for 3 years (2017 to 2020) before Harriet Bibby took over? I thought I recognised her so I looked her up!

I won't post much more on here, as I don't want to drop any spoilers out! 😬

PrincessScarlett · 21/09/2026 13:28

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway oh wow, I thought I recognised the Sophie actress from somewhere but couldn't place her.
