Help me remember the actor's name

Just to satisfy my itching brain!
Had a dream last night which featured an actor walking across a car park. He seemed familiar and I'm sure he's a real person.
The problem is, I can't think of much detail.
He's the sort of person who'd be in drama things like murder mysteries or maybe period dramas of the 1920s/1930s - he'd be playing a hotel proprietor type character.
I think he's fairly tall. He's an older actor - or at least, was then - he may have died.
White hair, with a bit of a wave, sometimes worn slicked back. A bit 'jowly' but not with a particularly wide face and has a moustache.
It's NOT Richard Griffiths. There's a similarity but the actor I'm thinking of has a narrower face than that and I don't think he has glasses.

Any ideas?

Joss Ackland?

Already discounted. Hairline too high. Wrong shape face.

Michael Winner.

No. Not him. Forehead too high. And he made me feel queasy. Again, I think Michael Winner's name is fairly well-known. I don't think 'my' actor is.

Tony Haygarth

No. Some superficial similarity but not anyone from a soap. Later pics of him are nothing like the person I'm trying to remember.

Bill Nighy

I know it isn't him but I just thought we could all take a moment to contemplate the wonder that is the lovely Bill Nighy

It absolutely isn't him but always happy to partake in a bit of appreciation.
Possibly someone around the same sort of age though.

Ronald Fraser?

No. He has a very distinctive nose, and I think would have been just a bit too old. Can't find any similarity to person I'm trying to think of.

Peter Baldwin - No. Hair is wrong and not someone from a soap as far as I can call to min.

Benjamin Whitrow - No. Hairline too high, hair too sparse. Not double-chinny enough.

David Calder?

No. Hair too sparse and balding. Chin/neck in this picture are similar to what I can call up for 'my' person.

You haven’t commented on my earlier suggestion of Ian Carmichael…

Sorry, thought he already came up but no. Hairline too high, eyebrows wrong, face not right shape

George Baker (Inspector Wexford)?

Edited

No. I think I'd have recognised him from that. His hair is wrong, complexion too ruddy. Possibly a bit too old but maybe someone from around then.

Thank God you are back @PGmicstand . We have to crack this case!

Have we had Brian Murphy

Right kind of moustache but maybe not enough in the chin department?

Adam Faith or Paul Nicholas? They don't really fit your description but both had slightly wavy hair (clutches at straws!)

No. Both too well-known and as you say, don't fit the description

Edward Herrmann?

No. Hair too grey, nose somehow wrong, but some similarity in the lower face.

Tom Wilkinson ? Jaw seems right but he's not known for his mustache ...

Repeating Brian Murphy in case you missed him.

The mustache is really causing a problem - there are lots of jowly double chins but no tache or you can have a tache but no double chins!!
