ITV (https://www.hellomagazine.com/tags/itv/) has unveiled a first look at its gripping new serial killer drama, The Dark – and it looks seriously good.
Adapted from G.R. Halliday's debut novel, From the Shadows, the six-part series follows a high-stakes cat-and-mouse chase between Detective Inspector Monica Kennedy and a twisted killer in the Scottish Highlands.

If, like me, you're a fan of atmospheric, edge-of-your-seat thrillers like The Pembrokeshire Murders and The Fall, this one needs to be on your radar.

Billed as a "chilling serial killer drama," the series follows DI Monica Kennedy as she investigates the discovery of a body found on the coast of the Scottish Highlands.

The synopsis reads: "When the body of a young man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community. As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them.

With her experience of dealing with the darkest of humanity Monica Kennedy quickly becomes entangled in a heightened game of cat and mouse with a cunning killer.

Only she can stop this monster before he claims any more victims.

But when her own history creeps up on her, she begins to lose trust in her own judgement.

Will it be her own actions that are the biggest risk to herself and her family?"

The first look photos also show distraught mother Bethany Morgan (Helen Baxendale) holding a gun, as Monica appears on her doorstep once again with a case linked to her missing son. Viewers also get a disturbing glimpse of the masked killer.

Who stars in The Dark?
Laura Donnelly (Outlander) leads the cast as Monica Kennedy, alongside Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom) as DC Connor Crawford and Helen Baxendale (Cold Feet) as Bethany Morgan.

6 parts and other books hopefully will be made into series’s

Didn’t grip me at all - possibly trying to hard - to many clinches with personal life of detective stuff - possibly in these times multiple murders and serial killers isn’t really the vibe I am looking for

it only had to cap it off with it being a female killer and it will be full bingo

I watched and was confused.
the family of dead boy said they had no dog so I assumed boy was maybe kept in the cages by his parents and made to eat dog food?
but I also assumed chap at the end was sane boy (in flashback) as similar stark religious room (though I now realise bed/door in different position) and wondered why he had a dog plus how the killer got him out that window!

I obviously didn’t pay enough attention! Hopefully it’s twice a week not just Sundays as it’s not gripping enough for that.

No I think boy at end is a second victim

and the record she was listening to of how he died (Vic 1) is showing how it happened to no 2

not sure about dog food. Maybe she eats it herself or does have a dog that died

What’s with the daughter and the woman in the cinema?

Blondeshavemorefun · Today 09:11

Or maybe as the victims have dogs she drugs /the dog food to make them sleep

tho that means she killed her son so that doesn’t make sense either

Jason is Vic 1 dead

Rob is Vic 2 and about to die

Gave up. I don’t like the permanent gloom and didn’t warm to the lead.

Manifesto · Today 10:10

I was having difficulties warming to the overly dour/ rude lead too. Sarah Lancashire did it better in Happy Valley

I did rewatch this am. I think I was tired from the weekend and wasn’t concentrating enough so yes looking towards e2

so who is under the mask as the killer

male and strong ? Or female and strong

I watched this last night and by the end had no bloody clue what was going on. Not sure I care enough to find out.

Dreameasy · Today 15:47

I switched off. They should have a Scottish female lead. Not someone pretending to put on a dreadful Scottish accent. It put me off and after half an hour I switched off. The acting was so wooden.
