I actually liked the colour clash in Sam's kaftan - I thought it gave a flash of wow to a mostly sombre piece - but I did think that overall he needed to go.

For me Beth's ombré dress was the standout, I couldn't quite get on board with the GOTW.

There was lovely work in that ombré dress.

The pick of the week wouldn't be my choice but it was for the judges, Esme and Patrick.

I really liked the purple/brown theme in recycling. Very clever.

AnnaMagnani · 22/07/2026 19:30

Wasn't convinced the kaftan was the worst take on a single colour but can see that Sam wasn't going to go far.
Broderie anglaise dress was cheating as far as I was concerned for using a single fabric.

Ombre dress was amazing. I'd wear that in a heartbeat. She was robbed.

placemats · 22/07/2026 20:39

Would wear and buy the ombre dress. However I just knew Esme would say that the fit was loose. That wouldn't bother me at all, it was a bonus.

2Rebecca · 22/07/2026 20:48

The ombre dess was my favourite too

Binglebong · 22/07/2026 21:46

Did I miss the usual discussion where the judges say "x is at risk, y and z could both be GOTW"?

No, it went straight to the elimination but did face shots of Sam, Minnie, Angie. There was no discussion about them.
Sam did well with the sewing on the kaftan but it was an unfitted style and the judges really didn’t like the colours at all.
Beth was my preferred garment of the week, that looked stunning and very wearable.

unfamiliarwithyourwork · 22/07/2026 22:14

Why have they eliminated the judging discussion section?

I always wanted more of that. (Just as in Masterchef I always want more focus on the cooks actually thinking about each individual stage of creating a dish.) The unearned Ta-daah! just doesn’t make for interesting viewing.

NortyTorty · 22/07/2026 22:19

Is it a time thing in the early episodes? They have to do the whole intro and back story of the contestants plus show them all seeing plus 12x cat walks etc?

unfamiliarwithyourwork · 22/07/2026 22:45

Fair point. Yes, I guess it is inevitably more rushed and superficial when there are so many contestants.

placemats · 22/07/2026 22:46

There's a thing called editing.

EnterQueene · 26/07/2026 08:58

I’m enjoying this series. I wasn’t a massive fan of the GOTW though it was obviously well sewn. I thought the ombre dress was fabulous.

BestIsWest · 26/07/2026 09:13

Been on hols so just catching up. Loved the ombré dress. I missed whether she had sewn the patchwork pieces together in advance or was doing them then and there. I can see why they chose the green outfit as GOTW but I didn’t like it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/07/2026 09:28

I got the impression that the patchwork was done in advance.

AnnaMagnani · 26/07/2026 16:26

I rewatched to see if there were any clues about the ombre dress but there were not. For this I have assumed that she makes the final so didn't get a lot of early airtime.

We didn't see her making the patchwork so I assumed it had already been done. It would have taken ages to make in the time allowed.

NewGirlInTown · 27/07/2026 03:31

I haven’t got all the names yet, but I love the wee lesbian actuary, who made that fantastic pink on pink skirt with the godets. That was so technically accomplished.
I think she is a secret super hero, like Mrs Invisible!
Hope she wins. 👏🏻👏🏻

Cast list here, @NewGirlInTown.

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2026 12:15

She definitely said 'I made a patchwork' when she was talking about her plans.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 27/07/2026 22:02

The ombré dress was beautiful and wearable.

Ilovemyshed · 27/07/2026 22:10

I was thinking on the purple and brown theme that I wished someone had made a pinafore with a swishy purple skirt and a quilted brown bib so it could have looked like a Dairy Milk !

There was a "chocolate bar" comment that made it into the edit 😁

Nara2k · 28/07/2026 10:00

Reduce reuse recycle week this week, I'm wondering if the transformation challenge will be useable - for a change! 😁

PickAChew · 28/07/2026 12:15

Hopefully it's not perfectly usable sports gear, again.

placemats · 28/07/2026 12:20

I loved the old linen tablecloth reusable. Such lovely outfits.
