They had to keep Anna because she does push herself more. Her dress could have looked amazing if the boning had been less extreme and not visible through the fabric. Heather's looked a bit dated.

Loved Beth's. I know it's irrelevant but she is so pretty.

smilesy · 08/09/2026 21:01

I’m not surprised Heather’s made to measure let her down. It wasn’t really a reinterpretation of an lbd. It just looked like an lbd with an underskirt. Anna was lucky though. If her transformation hadn’t come first I think she might have been a goner. Loved loved loved Beth’s shorts😍. And Emma’s dress looked really wearable. I thought the fabric was great

Bogstandardname · 08/09/2026 21:08

As someone who struggles to sew a button on shirt, I am completely in awe of everyone one of them.

2Rebecca · 08/09/2026 21:09

That was very close. I think Heather going was the right decision. Hers was less ambitious than the others and less black. Beth’s was great. Getting a garment to fray a bit but not a lot in that fabric is tricky. If it is to last more than 1 night it needs hemming. I’d have like to see the top under the netting

placemats · 08/09/2026 21:10

Good luck to the winner in the final whoever wins.

Will be watching in anticipation.

I loved Heather's dress in the M2M. It was the best executed, despite what Patrick said. However if it was between Anna and Heather, Anna would win it for me.

Personally I think Emma should have gone.

Well done Heather. Really enjoyed watching the outfits made by you.

BestIsWest · 08/09/2026 21:22

I think the right decision was made. Emma came second in both the pattern and transformation challenges and no criticism of her dress was made.
To be honest I’m biased towards Emma because I love her fabric choices and she makes things I’d actually wear. I’d love it if she won but I think Beth is the better sewer and Anna is more creative so It will be one of them.

ChapmanFarm · 08/09/2026 21:24

I'm glad Anna didn't go for one poor week when she's been outstanding.

There's been so little to call between Heather, Emma and Rebecca right the way through.

Was probably the right call given Heather didn't manage to put her straps on but I loved her cheery demeanor.

They are all very good but Beth and Anna have sat above throughout. Its the very creative versus the clever constructor. Could go any way in the final and I'm not sure who I want.

LilyLemonade · 08/09/2026 21:26

Absolutely loved Beth's MTM.
Anna seemed like a surefire winner at the start of the series but now it's getting perilous for her. Eek! Loved her ambition with the MTM but it fell down in the execution. I've really enjoyed Heather's sewing and I thought her Austen dress was fabulous but with the LBD she wasn't as ambitious and it didn't have the wow factor.
Earlier on I wouldn't have expected Emma in the final - I was expecting either Rebecca or Heather alongside Anna and Beth because they were technically fantastic but also very creative.

Blueyblueyblue · 08/09/2026 21:45

Anna peaked too soon, whereas Beth has absolutely hit her stride at the right time.

I’ve loved Anna’s flair and creativity from the start. I really hope she pulls it back for the final.

Anna did seem like a dead cert early on in the series, but my money is on Beth winning now.

KittyHigham · 08/09/2026 22:16

I think the editing has been done so that Anna looked a sure thing leaving the possibility of another sewer coming up on he rails so it would make a better build up and final

I think it will be between Anna and Beth but very accomplished sewers have messed up in the final.before!
Ive really enjoyed the series

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/09/2026 22:20

I liked the comment from Heather, well before the end, that she realised she just liked sewing for herself and making things she liked. Not everyone wants to make fanciful creations. She was the right one to go this week but I liked her.

Blueyblueyblue · 08/09/2026 22:22

I liked all of them in this series. Such a talented bunch, I’m in awe of them.

Most of the stuff she makes are rather samey.

All the transformation challenge dresses were hideous. Would any of you turn up to a wedding in one of those?!

placemats · 08/09/2026 22:45

A little black dress "reimagined" as shorts is a step too far for me. Emma's dress was dull. And Anna's was just awful. Heather's was the only outfit that remotely fitted the brief.

BeaLola · 08/09/2026 22:48

Esme doesn’t usually like brown but loved Anna’s transformation challenge … probably because it was obviously Annas

i wonder what the final MTM is going to be ?

Overcoat

KnickerlessParsons · 08/09/2026 23:03

I’ve said from the beginning that we’re being set up to think Anna will win, but she won’t.

I think she should have gone this week - she was last in the first challenge and her LBD was awful.

I like Jane Austen but don’t really understand the adoration. Her books seem less complex than those of the Bronte sisters or George Eliot. I find dresses that flare below the bust very unflattering on me. I prefer a waist

Austen's books are at least as complex as the Brontes' or Eilot's, but they are considerably more subtle.

Piknik · 08/09/2026 23:35

I don't think any of the MTMs were brilliant this week.... Beth's was beautifully constructed and I could understand why the French seams on the sheer fabric were so clever (along with the careful fraying of the lovely boucle) but it did look a bit unbalanced to me - I think the shorts were too long. Anna's was lovely on paper but a mess IRL, Heather's was a bit Karen Millen 2005 and although I liked Emmas, if it wasn't for the two-tone fabric it would have had nothing special about it. Thought all the transformations were a bit crap as well.

On that basis, i think it was right that Anna stayed. She and Beth have been front runners the whole time and it's the first time she's really messed up on a day when nobody really was outstanding.

Castlerigg · 09/09/2026 06:42

I think it was the right decision last night.

I loved the jacket they made for the pattern challenge. Anyone know where it was from?

PickAChew · 09/09/2026 07:24

They make their own patterns for the pattern challenge, @Castlerigg nut there's a few moto jacket patterns available. I have this one which I intend to make sometime in the next 20 years and I think there's a few big 4 ones.

queenceleste · 09/09/2026 07:45

The right person left for sure. It’s going to be between Beth and Anna - Emma can be a bit naff sometimes and seems unlikely to win, her colour choices are not to the judges taste it seems & she hasn’t got the fashion flare of the other two .

Beth is adventurous but more methodical than Anna, there was a big hint from PG about reading the whole pattern last night wasn’t there?

So on that basis I think Beth is more likely to win; but if Anna is a bit more careful/methodical and lucky (or her risks pay off) next week - she could have the edge. Beth seems to know her limitations better. I’m very excited for next week.

I agree. More restrained and every word is to the point. No waffle.

To be fair, the idea of being told you have to go to a wedding as a guest and you have to make your dress from a few old men's shirts in an hour and a half sounds like the kind of nightmare you'd wake up from drenched in sweat!

I was very sorry to see Heather go but I think it was the right decision. I really liked Beth's outfit. Looking forward to the final. This has been a lovely series.

And then it's on to Bake Off! I like Tuesdays at this time of year.
