Absolutely agree with you all.

I loved the Bee costume best, but TrebleMaker was clever and very well done. Anna is my absolute favourite overall; I think she's lovely, quirky and a really talented and creative sewer.

Minnie was lovely, but she's just not as imaginative as the other sewers - although I thought her teddy was super.

KittyHigham · 18/08/2026 21:36

I really enjoyed that episode!
I loved that Rebecca got GOTW and Adele's bee costume was brilliant too.
The transformation challenge was fun and uncontroversial as the end products were functional 😄
I'm sad to see Minnie go but it was the right
.

BeaAndBen · 18/08/2026 21:37

I think Adele's Bee costume was my favourite. Had the keys on the piano skirt not flapped about I might have gone for that, but the Super Bee was marvellous.

placemats · 18/08/2026 22:03

Rebecca did not deserve GOTW. It was awful. Loved the teddy bear but sadly Minnie's costume was lost on the judges. Cats are awesome.

For me the bee costume was brilliant.

TragicMuse · 18/08/2026 22:27

I thought I heard Minnie say that it was a character from her childhood - so not something she invented herself? That would have been part of the weakness of her costume, I think.

PickAChew · 18/08/2026 22:38

Loved this one. It was so much fun.

It's a shame they didn't get Minnie's character because the magical girl genre definitely fits the bill. It would have been better if her character didn't merely talk to cats as her suoerpower but summoned a whole herd of cats to undertake missions.

Googling cat girl it is a popular Japanese anime thing that probably is seen as fitting the superhero category in Japan. One weakness of the Sewing Bee is that if Patrick and Esme don’t recognise your character you get downvoted. The catgirl costume was also easier to fit than the others. I loved her bear though and think it should have been in the top 3.

BeaLola · 18/08/2026 22:43

Really enjoyed it

as an aside I think Rebecca is the David Mitchell of Sewing Bee

PersonOnTheInside · 18/08/2026 22:46

I found myself a little disappointed with most of the MTM costumes. The TrebleMaker was probably the best idea but I didn't like the lilac colour - would have preferred to see it made in just black and white with maybe a bit of red and I thought it didn't fit that well? Adele's bee was the best overall.

KnickerlessParsons · 19/08/2026 00:14

I agree. The bee should have won

LilyLemonade · 19/08/2026 01:03

I thought the octopus and the bee were the best pieces in this week. The bee would be such fun to wear - and its superpower could be easily inferred. It was beautifully made. I also liked the zip boy costume, with the hidden destinations behind the zips - though the execution wasn't as smooth as the others. They were all great ideas, to be fair. The treblemaker was a very original concept. Well done Rebecca.

Minnie shares her outfits on her Instagram and everything she wears is made by her!

Can you share Minnie's Instagram please?

I agree and there are loads of cat girls/batgirls etc out there in the superhero universe! I also loved her teddy.

I guess Minnie played it too safe. They were a bit 'it's very obvious colours' about ehr tutu as well.

You could tell which costumes the kids liked and that was the bee, Beth's and the cat.

Halsall · 19/08/2026 07:47

I was totally expecting the bee to be GOTW. Not sure why they made that decision tbh, especially after Patrick was so effusive in praise of the bee. Odd.

EnterQueene · 19/08/2026 08:25

I liked Beth's costume the best, but could see that the Treble Maker deserved to win. Minnie's was lovely, but the cut out in the front wasn't very clear that it was a cat.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/08/2026 08:27

If Heather had got hers finished, she might have got GOTW. She gave herself a huge amount to do and without the bits she didn't get to it had a lot less impact.

But the challenge was to create a new superhero and Minnie's costume didn't convey the qualities of a cat-talking superhero. It was beautiful and looked great on the young model, but I don't think it met the brief.

AuntieBiotics · 19/08/2026 09:27

Agree that it didn't meet the brief. It would have met the brief if she had made it in pink spandex, with a highly engineered tail, or mask or whatever. Also I would argue that the scuba fabric she chose was much easier to manage than the stretchy stuff everyone else was using.

Sereine · 19/08/2026 09:34

I am an avid SB fan but think people forget it’s a TV programme as well as a sewing challenge. Personally, I would find watching somebody mend something really dull. If I want to see that, I can look on YouTube. I can appreciate the skills involved but it’s not exciting TV for the casual viewer.

You could say the same about knitting and crochet, yet they managed to make a successful programme out of that.

AuntieBiotics · 19/08/2026 09:36

It would depend though, if they were mending/altering in the transformation challenge that's jsut a small part of the overall show. They have done it before, I think I remember them patching old denim with bright fabrics, and the Japanese visible mending thing.

Sereine · 19/08/2026 09:41

I liked the octopus, but I suspect that any self-respecting child would pull those little pom-poms off within minutes.

cordelia16 · 19/08/2026 09:52

Guess I like things that are wonky because my two fave stuffed animals were the monkey and especially the elephant - agree with Patrick about cuddling it.

From a design POV, I think the trunk sat just a bit too low. It needed to start in the middle of the face. But then it might not have been so adorable.

I also loved Beth's tutu and Adele's bee costume (would have preferred that for GOTW, though happy for Rebecca).

I was wondering how many of them would actually be passed for sale. The buttons attaching the bear's legs, for example , and some of the eyes.

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2026 10:09

When Patrick said the elephant was 'missing a feature' , I was shouting 'tusks!' at the telly!

Yes, the trunk was too low on the face. But it was wonkily cute. They should have watched the children to assess which ones they went over to.

Sophie is wearing a Joanie blue dress which I bought in an outlet shop bnwt after they closed down. I sold it at a profit on Vinted as I felt the sleeves were too big and puffy.

think I made the right decision!!

It’s a lovely dress @AuntieBiotics
