When the glue is either picked off or wears off, a few gentle lines of white embroidery could suggest the icy look. I hope her son wears it.

I do too.

It looks to me as if she’s had a tracheotomy at some point. Probably not though

I don’t contribute here often, but is it really appropriate to discuss someone’s scars and possible heath conditions?

placemats · 12/08/2026 11:55

Agree 💯

Wasn’t convinced by bowling shirts as mtm. By definition they are not fitted and none of them really worked from that pov, the task seemed more about creativity and technique. However the basics of a well constructed shirt didn’t really come through.

As they demonstrated, a shirt doesn't have to be form fitting to need to fit properly as it can be too tight across the bust, even if the overall bust measurement looks sufficient or it can fall backwards, balloon out at the back and/or ride up at the front due to shoulder fit issues.

If I chose a "unisex" camp collar shirt that would give me 4" - 5" of ease at the bust, I would possibly have to fix all of these issues for it not to look like a sack on me.

I absolutely loved Anna's bowling shirt, it was an incredible design!
I was disappointed they focussed only on the design, applique and embroidery, ignoring the shirt fit and construction. Adele's collar looked really lopsided to me but not mentioned. Buttons & buttonholes usually get attention too but nothing.
I surprised myself by enjoying the pairs challenge (agree they are a terrible thing in IDM and didn't work at all in GOW)

Can you imagine the pressure to sew yourself a new outfit to wear each week rather so that you're not called out for being the person who bought their top in Prinark?!

Exactly

I completely forgot to watch last night. So I’m watching on my iPad in the garden.

Excuse the mucky feet.

I was surprised that Tim went. I thought his shirt was better than Emma’s. Her shirt didn’t fit properly and this is meant to be a made to measure challenge, not an embroidery challenge.

placemats · 12/08/2026 17:06

Tim's appliqué was atrocious. Good concept though.

I find her frocks rather droopy.

(Sorry, Minnie!)

And I love them.
It’s great we all have different taste.

unfamiliarwithyourwork · 12/08/2026 18:09

Totally!

SockPlant · 12/08/2026 20:13

where can i find their instagram handles?

placemats · 12/08/2026 20:15

On Instagram 😁

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/08/2026 20:53

Just type in the name and sewing bee, you will find them.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/08/2026 20:57

Anna's is atelier.anna.costume but easy to find by searching for Anna sewing bee.

I thought bowling shirts had pleats in the back and were a bit baggy to aid movement but what do I know

Yes, just caught up. All the female models had them fitted very snugly (apart from Anna's and Adele's) and the point of a bowling shirt is that it is loose for bowling! Had they never seen them before or something?? In particular, one of the models is really pretty busty and Rebecca seemed not to be able to work with that and it looked like Emma's fitted really badly too. Most of them weren't in traditional bowling shirt fabric either. Quite a few got away with murder !

Edited

I did think anybody actually bowling in some of those shirts would really struggle or rip them.

Yes, and unisex. Tim's stripe design was fairly traditional.

WonderfulSmith · 12/08/2026 22:52

I noticed as well that some of them were straight along the bottom but some were shaped. I would think that a bowling shirt would be straight.

Yes, that’s true, it would probably impose more pressure to wear something you had sewn yourself. I hadn’t thought about that. Not that I’d judge them for wearing RTW! Just curious… Beth (my favourite) was wearing a French Connection top this week!

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/08/2026 08:08

I have never seen a bowling shirt.

Watch The Big Lebowski - it’s worth watching anyway 😀

I think it is a bit stalkerish to want a run down of the contestants outfits - they are just people that entered a sewing competition, let them wear their clothes! They’ll put info on their Insta if they want to share it, so oddly nosy to expect it.

I’m also a bit bemused by the posters obsessed by ‘waste’ - it is a fun sewing competition, not an eco doc. In the scale of what we are doing to the planet, a few tablecloths seems a pretty minor crime. Do they berate amateur artists for the ‘waste’ of canvas & paint I wonder?!
