Well ! In today's episode, I was amazed at the wisdom of Ian Beale, knowing that Lauren is hiding something, he told her to her face he has "seen this before, and it's guilt." Spot on, from the character who is regarded as a joke.

the80sweregreat · 22/07/2026 21:47

I don’t think that Joel has changed that much really, but agree doing this doesn’t solve anything at all. Just ignoring him would have sufficed,
Now they are all in trouble.

the80sweregreat · 22/07/2026 21:49

Ian has been cheated on by women before and been mean ( Bobby’s mum Laura , he treated her badly )
He should know what a cheater is like being with Cindy for ages too. Lauren is behaving like Cindy has historically. He knows the signs.

Shellingbynight · 22/07/2026 22:00

@Leftrightleft producer did a hatchet job on Nicola when she forced George to house Eddie for the cash. But we are supposed to have forgotten about it now.

Barney was very reluctant, and I think Avani was having second thoughts too. It was mainly Amy and the they other guys. But I do blame Lily because she got Joel to trust her and the whole escapade would not have worked without her.

@Southeastdweller I agree with you, I felt sorry for Joel. Partly because he is such a good actor but also you couldn’t help it really when the teens set him up. He has already paid for his crimes by going to YOI.

I suppose Ian has known Lauren a long time, he knows what she’s like!

Alucard55 · 22/07/2026 22:21

Agree the Joel scenes were uncomfortable. It was the laughter and excitement from some of the teens that shocked me the most. We know what Joel has done but as Yolanda would say "An eye for an eye and whole world is blind".

The Joel actor is playing this so well though.

Alucard55 · 22/07/2026 22:21

I think Kat's hair looked like it needed a good wash and style.

MyWildOliveGoose · 22/07/2026 22:32

See, I think differently. I think the scenes were so uncomfortable because they did it so well. They got a chance to really shine with this storyline, their acting skills are being put to the test. They also clearly have a good bond to be able to merge together and be believable.

I work in education with some really troubled teens, and this is quite a realistic scenario. One teen does something, the rest then form a bond and seek revenge, it goes too far and then consequences are inevitable. I hope the writers do it justice.

That being said, Joel being knocked over the head in a whodunnit, is that step further. I don’t believe any of these teens did it though, my moneys on Janet. I don’t know why, maybe because it’s so outrageous and we saw the interaction with her and Joel yesterday.

I actually thought it was very much in keeping with Nicola's character to do that. I wasn't surprised, also she showed her feelings towards Eddie. It was most definitely a needs must situation.

Yes exactly, some of them were really enjoying it. Similar to how Joel was when he filmed Vicky.

Leftrightleft · 23/07/2026 00:10

I understand in school etc some teens may seek revenge, however Joel isn't in school, he should have been protected. The choice to go and meet these teens should not have been his. He mentioned he is not allowed near Avani, so why is he still on the square? Ross should have taken him further away, but obviously there would be no plot or storyline to that.
The parent's of all of them have so much to answer for, they are a product of their upbringing. The average teen wouldn't seek revenge, they would avoid the person, ostracise them. Violence doesn’t come naturally to all.
What Joel did was disgusting, inexcusable, and he needed to know it was unacceptable. However his actions were learnt through manipulation from that online forum/video/speaker, he didnt have parental support and was an easy target. The teens in tonight's episode did it for a laugh, punishment.

SnowFrogJelly · 23/07/2026 00:42

Kat’s hair looked like a mop!

Shellingbynight · 23/07/2026 08:15

@Leftrightleft I agree, Nicola/Eddie was in character. But a horrible and unnecessary storyline, I didn't see the point of it. It didn't go anywhere, it was just part of the producer's obsession with bringing characters back (see also, Gray).

I agree with you about Joel too. Ross was useless, and still is.

So is the new cop going to find out what Amy did, and blackmail her/Jack?

Southeastdweller · 23/07/2026 09:01

That could be a really good story! We know he’ll be working on a case involving the Brannings, but that’s unlikely to be his only story.

Kat's hair reminded me of Gary Glitter. 😳

Would that female copper really have snogged Mark in full view of everyone in the area she worked? I thought most police don’t socialise (or do public snogging) on their own patch.

Lemonpandas · 23/07/2026 18:48

I find it hard to believe Barney hit Joel with the hammer.
Unless they are trying to make him a chip of the old block
Like people said up thread ,they seem to be trying to ruin a number of people's characters.
Hopefully Barney just found the hammer ,or saw the person doing it watched them throw the hammer away ,and just told told harry where the hammer was ,who went and collected it .
I know Barney has a soft spot for avarnie ,and he did ask her if she wanted Joel punished yesterday.
So maybe it will turn out to be Barney, especially as Nicola came so confidently in to the police station assuming it wasn't Barney.
But that is so out of character for Barney..it's rediculous

murasaki · 23/07/2026 19:12

Maybe Barney's taking the rap for the group as no one would believe he did it. Risky, mind. I think he might have done as he's always liked Avani. Even though she clearly didn't want even the beer pouring bit. She just wanted him ignored and gone.

the80sweregreat · 23/07/2026 19:22

Barney wouldnt hurt a fly. I hope Harry can help him out. It is out of character for him.

Lemonpandas · 23/07/2026 19:26

Actually
My money is on Amy having done it .
She seems the most angry
Jack will end up trying to get her out of it and it will effect his career
Barney hopefully just found the hammer
It's another who done it ..
And no EE to Monday now either

Leftrightleft · 23/07/2026 19:27

If it is Barney then it's just a repeat of Bobby and Lucy. I wonder if Barney found the weapon and hid it because he had touched it, and it had his finger prints.

Hopefully yes

5MilesMax · 23/07/2026 20:06

Nice clip of some of the actors passing messages around on BBC Eastenders facebook.

Shellingbynight · 23/07/2026 20:18

It won't be Barney. He will be trying to protect someone (he might think Avani did it). If it IS Barney, they have completely jumped the shark.

The police got through eight witness statements in the space of an hour or two, Craig is an amazing cop, promote him immediately 😆

I think it was probably Nugget.

MyWildOliveGoose · 23/07/2026 20:24

I’m going to watch yesterday’s again, and turn the brightness on my tv up lol

I don’t believe it’s Barney, he didn’t even want them to pour beer on him, let alone whack him over the head
