Ross doesn’t know what to do with him does he :(

Leftrightleft · 20/07/2026 18:31

Ross needs to use his brain and realise they can't stay on the square, he and Vicky knew this choice was coming

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2026 18:41

What would anyone do though ? He has to do something with him. It’s a nightmare isn’t it. Maybe he should contact the probation officer?

Shellingbynight · 20/07/2026 18:44

Ross should most definitely contact Joel's probation officer, they think he's in Cornwall! I think it would be 'youth offending team' rather than probation because Joel's under 18, but same type of thing.

Leftrightleft · 20/07/2026 18:44

You would 100% contact whichever service is dealing with Joel's release, you would also have to look into moving. Why would anyone think going to the school, where his victim still attends is a good idea? Why would anyone think leaving Joel alone to roam the square/b&b was a good idea?

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2026 18:51

Yep , Ross doesn’t know what to do.
Must be mad to take him to college after what happened though. He isn’t thinking straight.
Nobody will want him though

Southeastdweller · 20/07/2026 18:58

I didn’t understand why the sixth form would be open as this is the first day of the school holidays?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 20/07/2026 19:04

I wondered that too. Maybe they were picking up results or getting the new timetable or something like that ? The writers probably just thought it would be nice to get them out the square. Same with Lauren and Mark and the very empty lock up place !

Not saying EE writers are always sticklers for what's realistic, but one of the secondary schools in my town doesn't break up until tomorrow 🙂

Lemonpandas · 20/07/2026 19:11

Lilly was in uniform
Won't she of done GCSEs
No mention of it being the last day of term

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2026 19:12

Some do break up later , but when mine went to college years ago they broke up in June. One of them never seemed to be there as it was ! Lol

NowNumber5 · 20/07/2026 19:34

Mine (secondary school age) finished on 2 July, but others don't finish until the end of this week so it varies quite considerably.

Leftrightleft · 20/07/2026 19:49

Most of the schools round here have not broken for summer yet. Although yr11 have finished, but not sure about sixth form. I didn't pick up on it being summer holidays when they visited the school, I just thought it's absolute madness Ross would attempt to get Joel enrolled, and how he mouthed back at Nugget. Honestly at this point I feel Ross is worse than Joel

VivienneDelacroix · 20/07/2026 19:51

Still at school until Wednesday here.

Shellingbynight · 20/07/2026 20:08

Ross gets worse by the episode doesn’t he. He does beggar all, then when he does do something it is implausibly stupid. You can’t really blame Joel for finding him lame and annoying.

It was such a dull episode, way too much Mark and Lauren who are the least convincing couple to ever have an affair - oh sorry, no, second least. Zack and Vicki were the least. At least Priya conjures up some chemistry with Max!

Meredusoleil · 20/07/2026 20:18

Maybe Lilly is supposed to be still in Year 10 rather than Year 11?

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 20/07/2026 20:24

The council officials who turned up at Linda’s class reminded me of the Marley brothers from The Muppets Christmas Carol.

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2026 20:26

The councilors were horrible !
How Linda has time for all this is beyond me though
I guess it’s so she’ll meet the nice one soon and maybe a big push to keep the centre open.

Alucard55 · 20/07/2026 22:27

I think Ross can't be both Vicki's husband and Joel's dad. I know what Joel has done is sickening but he is a child and Ross is his dad and I think he needs to end it with Vicki, move away and start being a good dad and role model to Joel.

Alucard55 · 20/07/2026 22:28

Linda's wardrobe is awful there's no need to still dress her like that.

SnowFrogJelly · 20/07/2026 23:10

I think Lily must be year 11?

naughty Lauren! 🤭

I agree with you, but Ross will just end up being a disaster at both. Because he's Ross and doesn't seem to have a single functioning braincell.

How did he think this was all going to work out? He must have known the length of Joel's sentence, what did he think would happen when he got out? Just assumed his ex would take him despite not having seen him for 10(?) years and having a female stepdaughter? He seemed to delete him from his memory once he went to YOI. I can see how Joel got to where he was, what with Ross's complete uselessness and the fact both Ross and Vicki paid off his previous victims.

Southeastdweller · 21/07/2026 08:41

Possibly Joel has some trauma from his mum leaving him. I agree Ross is useless and not the sharpest tool in the box and I do think the writers have generally got that right in terms of him being a somewhat realistic character who wants to support his son but keeps failing.

But what do you do in Ross’s shoes? It’s a rock and a hard place situation with no easy answer.

There must be lots of colleges in London that Joel could attend. If they let him in. He’ll need the grades though , would he have done them in jail ?
Not sure how any of it works.

Shellingbynight · 21/07/2026 08:59

I agree it's realistic, I am sure there are quite a few men like Ross. Which is part of the reason there are lads like Joel.

He could have had a think about what would happen to Joel so things could be put in place. And he could ask for help now rather than flailing around. Contacting the youth offending team would be a start!

It's a shame Zack shagged Joel's step mum, as if not for that he would be the ideal foster carer and role model😆 He did wonders for Tommy.
