Episodes 1 and 2 will air on Sunday, May 31 and Monday, June 1. The rest of the series continues next week on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.

The story follows two next-door neighbors in Manchester over the course of an escalating neighborhood dispute:
• Leo (Alan Cumming): A gay man who runs a bar on the famous Canal Street in Manchester's Gay Village.
• Clive (David Morrissey): An electrician with two teenage sons who harbors underlying prejudices.

The situation spirals out of control when Leo locks himself out of his house and has to ask his neighbor for a spare key.

This single event triggers a collision of worlds, unearthing mistrust and bigotry, which is further complicated when Leo strikes up a friendship with one of Clive's sons—who happens to be secretly gay.

The five-part drama will follow Leo and Clive who live next door to each other in Manchester. Leo runs a bar on Canal Street, while Clive is an electrician, with two teenage sons. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.

According to the official synopsis, "Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies in a tense, suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe."

•	Alan Cumming as Leo
•	David Morrissey as Clive
•	Pooky Quesnel as Marie, Clive’s wife
•	Jackson Connor as George, Clive’s son
•	Joseph Evans as Saul, Clive’s son
•	Elizabeth Berrington as Stephanie, Leo’s best friend
•	Iz Hesketh as Zee
•	Shakeel Kimotho as Hanna
•	Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Judy
•	Paul Rhys as Melba
•	Charlie Condou as Curtis, Leo’s ex-husband
•	Denise Welch as Diane

Sorry to change subject slightly, but I've never seen cucumber or Banana. I've just noticed they've been added onto More4. Are they worth a watch?

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/06/2026 21:10

Don’t think see either

I'm not sure about this so far. I usually love DM but his character is so unpleasant and a bit weird with the key and alarm code thing.

AC character is good and it's quite watchable but there's a lot not working for me.

Agree... didn't like all the wanking and hope we see more of his female friend because she's about the only female character in it. The rest are just props.

Zee living with those weird thug men didn't seem realistic to me either.

Not sure about it but I expect I'll watch it to find out what happens.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 03/06/2026 23:27

You're probably right @Blondeshavemorefun , less chance of his wife taking him back if his affair was with a man. I did think the affair could have involved a younger woman/teen too, as he appeared very protective of the younger son and maybe why he sees older men as predatory threats.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking it and he's just a stereotyped prejudiced permanently grumpy middle aged man!

I didn’t see Banana, but I remember Cucumber being really good. There’s a scene in it that will stay with you for a long time, well it has for me anyhow.

Shellingbynight · 04/06/2026 08:31

The way this is being signposted it's more likely to be a mob killing than suicide I think?

I said earlier I'm getting vibes of American Beauty, which involved a closeted middle aged homophobic neighbour killing the main character. David Morrissey is playing a blinder.

It is all a bit odd and off key. Leo plays with fire at every opportunity. He knows someone is going into his house but does not change the alarm code or locks. He knows Clive is a raging bigot yet invites him to work in the club. He knows the risks of being caught talking to the younger son (for both of them) yet texts and sends him a voice note.

Younger son also playing with fire, also older son who says incendiary stuff about being hit on by gay staff, which is guaranteed to wind Clive up.

Everyone behaves in ways to inflame every interaction, I usually love RTD but it’s quite wearing. Maybe it will all make more sense by the end.

One thing of many that bothered me is that even though Leo knew Clive is a prick, he willingly gave him a spare set of keys. It’s one example of lazy and contrived storytelling.

JacknDiane · 04/06/2026 09:11

DM has got a right scowl on him, hasn't he?

moto748e · 04/06/2026 10:11

His default expression is 'miserable old fucker'.

Yes, in almost everything he does. Getting a bit bored of him playing a variation on the same character.

Did you ever see him in Blackpool? He was brilliant in that. I do rate him but yes, maybe he's getting type cast now which would be a shame.

Keeping vague so as not to be a spoiler (although long aired!) but golf club? Stayed with me too.

I thought he was so sexy in this 😆 I'll never listen to that Proclaimers song in the same way ever again 😆

I don’t think it was willingly but he didn’t know how to say no without being rude

I get the impression that Leo is a polite man and doesn’t like hassle or trouble caused

OP posts:
Shellingbynight · 04/06/2026 12:24

If Leo didn't want to say no to Clive, he could still change his alarm code. Clive has no reason to go into his house so wouldn't know he'd changed it.

I agree with PP that it is all very contrived. Leo offering him work in a gay bar, how did he think that was going to work out. It's hard to believe a gay man aged 59 would be that naive when Clive is very clearly a threatening presence, it's as subtle as a breeze block.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/06/2026 12:26

as I said I’m wondering if it was the son going in and moving stuff. And not dad /DM

I have watched the first episode... It's brilliant and so absolutely of the moment.. I really admire that it's so current. Russel is a genius... Queer as Folk and It's a Sin we're also perfect things....

Agreed. It's a sin is just amazing. Can't wait see what they do with the stage version 😃

the80sweregreat · 04/06/2026 13:07

I didn’t think it would be the son going in the house. He should have changed the code and the door locks especially as Clive is so hostile towards him. Why he couldn’t get a better quote I’m not sure as most businesses have a network for recommending people for the trades. It seems like he almost wants him to rip him off for the work to be done , which is mad when you can get a few quotes.
Anyway, his going to be called all sorts now :(

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 04/06/2026 13:33

I thought he offered work to Clive as he felt sorry for him. And he’s his neighbour. Maybe trying to win him round.

I wish they wouldn’t open with the lamppost scene though

CollaterlieSistersSister · 04/06/2026 13:34

To all those saying it won’t be the son going into Leo’s house, he was there in his boxers when Leo got home. His dad saw as well. At the very end of Ep 2.
