@Tabarnak Channel 5 have obviously decided to make it for whatever reason and that's their choice as is if anyone wants to watch it that is their choice too.

That is the way it works here free speech and (relatively) uncensored media.

I was surprised to see it advertised on Channel 5 ...but it was and is such a high profile case and unsolved.

Yes.

You asked and I told you why I will not be watching it.

Given free speech etc. And I have a right to my opinion.

On a discussion site

I didn’t say it should be banned.

CurlewKate · 21/05/2026 19:27

Another example of how crap we are at calculating risk. It’s obvious from this thread that leaving a child alone in a hotel room is a virtually zero risk activity.

DeathBecomesMe · 21/05/2026 20:21

I didn't realise Channel 5 could sink any lower.

Both The last photo of Maddy or this other photo must be fake as the background does not match ibb.co/B2TxDrJY

They've just removed the other child and father from the pic 🤷‍♀️

Yes. This is what I was going to say. They have zoomed in on MM and cropped out the other two people.

CurlewKate · 21/05/2026 11:54

No. Because I find this sort of “true crime” stuff voyeristic and playing to the worst in human nature.

Agreed. We lived for a while in a village not far from the McCanns, and I used to see Kate driving through quite often. Every time, before I recognised her, I would think ‘there’s someone in torment’, just from her expression. She lives with the horrifying consequences of her own choices every second of every day, and the knowledge that her young daughter’s last days and hours were probably beyond imagining.

hittheball · 21/05/2026 20:58

That photo isn't fake but there is very strong evidence the McCanns tampered with the metadata on the photo.

The photo wasn't released until three weeks after Madeleine's disappearance and when it was released the McCanns made a point of saying that the photo was taken the day of her disappearance (Thursday).

Someone looked at weather readings from the area during the week the McCanns were on holiday and other photos that were taken nearby that week.

The weather in the photo doesn't match up with the weather in the area on Thursday. The day was cool with moderate cloud cover. The weather does, however, match up with that recorded on the day they arrived on holiday (Sunday).

Why did they wait 3 weeks to release that photo of Madeleine? Why lie about when it was taken?

icannotlivelaughloveintheseconditions · 21/05/2026 20:59

I watched it. In terms of it as a tv show it wasn’t that interesting although I suppose it highlighted the trauma they had to go through whilst going through the most horrific thing imaginable. I thought the actress did a good job.
I did not know until after that they were not consulted that’s really poor.
I thought the end was in extremely bad taste.

You do know that the sun can still make an appearance on cloudy days?

Maybe they just got confused and mixed up their dates due to all the trauma of losing their child? Must be easily done, no?

I’ve just watched it. Thought it was poor.

Oh God the McCann Derangement Syndrome people are out in full force.

The McCanns have been thoroughly investigated and the Portuguese, British and now German police have not charged them with anything.

Yes they made a very serious mistake in leaving the kids alone, but the apartment was within viewing distance and they went back regularly to check on them. They were too trusting and complacent but they’ve paid an absolutely hideous price and 1 look at Mrs McCanns face will show the agony she has been living with for the last 20 years.

I read her autobiography which directly addresses all the myths against them, it was a heartbreaking read.

Wow almost as if weather doesn’t ever change throughout the day apart from on the stroke of midnight from one day to the next.

It was cloudy and drizzling here this morning and blue sky and sunshine by 2pm.

I haven't watched it, but the Maddie McCann case is more or less solved, the only question remaining is where her body is.

The German police have an avalanche of circumstantial evidence against a known offender which is highly compelling.

The only evidence against him is that his camper van was ‘in the region’’ and I don’t believe he was involved. I did not watch the programme.

I've had a post hidden which I can only assume is due to a forbidden link. Maybe it will appear in time.

I have read the vast majority of the (translated) police files from the Portuguese investigation.

Of course, you can snort and say I'm deranged if you want but I have read the facts (as much as they are available) around this case, not just the media coverage and the words of the McCanns.

If you want to search for "McCann last photo" that should also send you in the direction of the blog post that I attempted to link written by a retired police chief inspector that puts forth the evidence around the photo clearly and factually. Or you can be dismissive. Your choice.

We don’t know what evidence the German police may or may not have. I doubt they share everything with the media.

Which Portuguese police chief is this? The one who published a shady book and made a profit afterwards, or the one who was previously done for falsifying evidence?

I didn't say Portuguese police chief. The author of the blog is Peter MacLeod, retired former superintendent of Nottinghamshire police.

Marcipex · 21/05/2026 21:45

I don’t see what the McCanns, or anyone, would have to gain by falsifying the date of the photo.

That police chief?

I find the idea of a part time GP having the tech savvy in 2007 to ‘tamper with the metadata’ on a photo frankly nuts. We didn’t even use terms like ‘metadata’ in 2007, let alone know how to use it in a sophisticated manner. How old are you?

Read the post. It answers your questions.

Sunisgettinganewhaton · 21/05/2026 21:49

We stayed at a similar place less than a mile along the coast. Our patio door didn't lock. Teen ds slept in there but we had a toddler with us. The restaurant /villa set up was exactly the same. Can't imagine eating out with the toddler in bed.. Massive human error but don't think they were physically involved..
Naive ? Very much so.
Might watch it though.

Can’t you answer? How does a part time GP use metadata to manipulate photos in 2007, whilst on holiday with restricted access to computers?
